i don't know the best but my favorite is the Abram (sorry if i don't write the name correctly)

SR 71 blackbird the SR77 was the plane in the XMEN movies and yes M1A2 Abrams main battle tank I believe is a good tank.

Actually, the T-90S is not even close to being the best tanks in the world. Its explosive reactive armor is inferior to both the Chobham 2 armor of the the British Challenger ll and the Chobham 1 armor with Steel encased depleted uranium armor of the M1A2.The Challenger ll has the the best tank armor in the world. Its main gun is similar to the M1A2 Abrams.

 

The Abrams is faster than the Challenger ll however.

Ahh, the SR-71... Too bad they never really said how fast it can go.. They only say mach 3+ but nobody has ever broken it's speed record. Now it's in museums and a couple are in "testing" for NASA. Such a waste.Anyway, I like the German Leopard 2, the Israeli Merkava, and the M1A2 Abrams. Soviet/Russian tanks look too "small" for a fat guy like me

No way, the best tank in the world is the Leopard II by far.

 

It has the best fire control, best "useability" in the field and the perfect mix of mobility, firepower and armour.

abrams is most likely the most superiour tank around, it being American and all :)but my most FAV tank would have to be the T-55Afav helicopter: Huey by farfav aircraft: P-38

I agree with the Leopard.Fast, accurate, and durable. I would think 10 Leopards vs 10 Abrams. with equal crews. the Leopards will come out on top.

I have to disagree, the Leopard II has been retrofitted many times, the new 2001/2002 models have come a long way since the original 1979 variant. Currently, the A6 EX does have a better fire control system then the Abrams.I dunno, CDN forces often get rated to drive both Abrams and Leopard IIs. I know a few tankers who say the newest Leopard IIs egde out the abrams, especially when you go all out in rough terrain. But that's their opinion, I can't say I've driven either.

I would lean to the Abrams than any other tank just becuase its been battle tested far more than any other tank.

sry, challanger 2 = pwnage of everything else... even the m1a1's depleted uranium shells cany scratch it, (what use is a big gun if you cant hurt what you are firing at)Although it comes with a slightly smaller bore gun (as standard there is now a c2a with a 121mm cannon) the shells are HEAT depleted Uranium, Discarding sabbot, and fin stabalised, there are also plans to have "guided" (the maneoverable nosecone thingy) shells equipped now.it features a more powerfull engine, can do 75mph~~ unlimited, 45mph (same as abrams) limited. the Targeting computer is more powerfull and sophisticated than the abrams, (its a linux machine whereas the abrams is a MS machine ROFL which means that when it aquires a target, it doesnt bluescreen and say "this tank has performed an illegal operation" and will shut down all systems on the tank)it can carry (AFAIK) more rounds than the abrams can, So, faster, more powerful, better armour, more ammunition, better targeting system, Better ammunition..Yeah the Challanger2 /2a is the best tank in the world.(btw they did tests at the tank firing range about 3 miles from where i live with an american m1a1, usual armourment, and a t-72 mbt, and neither could peirce hte armour of the C2a...)

The problem with the Challenger II is its size. Good for tank battles against primitive HEAT ammo, very very bad against top attack missiles. The surface area of the turret is too large to repel a top attack and prevent collateral dammage tearing into all the compartments.... where as both the Abrams and the Leopard II can survive a hit on about the 1/3 rear of the turret top and safely eject the ammo while containing the explosion. Also, I know for a fact that the Challenger II can't take more then 2 hits from an APFSDS in the same area. The 1st one kills the reative armor, the second one goes right through it and out the other side. There is no armor in this world that can resist an APFSDS, it can only be partially deflected by reactive armor, and that only works once and then it's gone. Like all tanks, APFSDS is the silver bullet that will kill anything, and being bigger just means it's easier to die.Also, do you know what happens when APFSDS hits a tank? 1st off, the friction is so powerful that it burns all the paint off the entire tank in like 10 seconds (that's why tanks killed by sabot always look rusted...the paint is burned off on impact), A little hole is made on impact, a big hole goes right through the other side. Everything inside is sucked out the big hole due to the pressure shockwave. Look inside a tank killed by sabot, and all that is left of the crew is jelly, most of it ejected out the opposite side the tank was hit on.Edit: Cool APFSDS-DU stories1)In the 1st gulf war, 1 APFSDS killed 2 Iraqi T72s that were lined up. The shot went completely thorugh both tanks.2)The APFSDS has such velocity, that US/UK tanks could fire thorugh 30M sand berms and still penetrate Iraqi T-72s using infared at night3)In Bosnia, a Serb T72 was hit by APFSDS. The turret on this tank was gravity held. Since the impact was so great, the turret flew up into the air, flipped over, and landed back in place upside down. Heh, my bro has a picture of this one when he was over there doing peace keeping, it is somthing to see. I'll see if I can get him to scan it and I'll post it.

There are many superoir tanks but the one the US uses will always be the best.The US is the only country that can support its ground components by air at almost all times (if needed).A tank without air support or a tank without the capability to call in air support is probably gonna end up on its back burning, regardless of its armor.

Well, then what happens if a US crew takes over an abandoned Leopard II? Is that Leopard II better then an Abrams?
