March 17, 200422 yr Heya allI though I'd post my 1st impressions of BFV so you can see if you'll like it or not.The 1st things I noticed are 1)You can't see jack in the jungle. Most of the time you don't even know where you're being shot at from. 2)The soldier vs soldier weapons are ultra powerful. I mean, I sprayed 10 rounds into a moving jeep with an M60, and all 4 people in it died instantly with little aiming effort. 1-2 hits with almost every weapon is a kill. 3)Vehicles have weak anti vehicle weapons, and it's the same 3-4 hits to kill a tank. Most of the time infantry will survive an indirect hit from a tank shell. Vehicle machine guns are a different story... same thing, 1-2 hits, rarely 3. 4)Sniper rifles are deadly, especially the US ones. They are very stable, recover quickly and are almost always on target. Heh, and the m16 sniper rifle variant fires as fast as you can click the mouse. :)So what does this mean? 1)Move real slow and stay hidden or die. 2)Get in an armored unit if you can when a fire fight starts.... heh, blind fire is VERY effective because of the dammage on the weapons. A couple of times the enemy was thick in the bushes and I couldn't see them, I opened up with the m60 in the general vicinity and sprayed all over the place, and people just dropped dead.Cool things of interest1)The driver of the vehicle can choose the radio song, and all the passengers listen to the same music. :)2)Helicopters work like they do in DC, but are VERY forgiving of errors.3)VC engineers can move tunnel spawn sites by digging a new tunnel4)VC engineers can plant punji sticks5)US has claymores *poof, you all die* :D6)The colors are very vibrant, it looks good.7)Reload animations are VERY well done8)Ever see the movie "We were soldiers?" The 7th cav battle is there. Very fun map, the NVA spwans are setup to attack the US LZ from quasi-historical diretions (including the dry river bed) and the US also has a spawn way off on the other side of the map where all the choppers are... so lose the LZ cap point, and you gotta start hauling people in over the distance where the NVA is waiting for you.Probably not a game for the charge in blasting kinda people, heh, as you don't live to long when you aren't under cover. it's more of a creep, locate enemies and concentrate fire kinda game.EDIT:Oh yeah, and the flyboys may be wondering "How do I target stuff in all that vegetation and hilly terrain? Sounds difficult compared to the open desert" Just look for the florescent smoke baby, and fly in weapons blazing.
March 17, 200422 yr I would buy DC except i have 2 problems1. My computer is as fast and as powerful as an 18th Century Toaster2. My Computer is teh suxorzThe only way for BF Nam to work on my machine is if i had sod all else on it and i am not making a my computer a dedicated machine.
March 17, 200422 yr Very nice review. Can you tell me if the graphics are a little more forgiving than in BF1942/Desert Combat? Or, are they very intensive and eat all the resources as BF1942/Desert Combat?
March 17, 200422 yr Author Well, with all the vegetation sprites that have vibrant colors, the game looks fantastic even on the lowest detail settings.I have a 2Ghz Athlon+, 512 MBs and a Radeon 8500, and at 800*600*32 with modest detail settings, the game is smoother then BF1942 for me. I wouldn't say the models are any better or worse then BF1942, but the sprites look alot better (eg, when you are in vegetation, it blurs the sprites to simulate both eye angles) and the colors are much better, so that's where you see all the visual differences. Ovrall, I seems that the heavier reliance on detailed sprites for vegetation makes BFV perform better then BF1942, and it looks better since there is so much more detail on the maps because of it.
March 17, 200422 yr I uploaded all the server files on the TA server...maybe we will give it a try this weekend
March 17, 200422 yr my brother was playing it and it looks AWESOME. even though my bro is a sad bastage who runs over his own team with a tank.

March 18, 200422 yr Man I want it but it maybe a few days before I secure funding. Strobes called me today and told me he had it...he said the music was very cool because the people riding with you could hear what you are listening too as long as you have the standard music. He noted you can put your own music in a directory the only hit is other people would not be able to hear your custom music.I saw somewhere in a review it was a snipers game.
March 18, 200422 yr Good, then I can take my copy of Paint It Black and distribute it to everybody else because IT WILL be playing when I'm driving.
