I'm running a GforceFX5200, with 800mhz and I'm getting 40-50fps all the time, which max settings. What I do is shut down all background programs, nothing but explorer, taskbar, and the game should be open (or if you have other stuff that needs to be open for your computer to run, leaves those open too).Make sure your volume control and Steam icon is the only thing in the system tray...and yeah..that's all I can think of. That always works for me of course (but my computer is weird, I'm running Morrowind and Splinter Cell at max detail with 30 some fps :S, I really don't know how I do it...)EDIT:YOu may also want to try defragging or running an anti-virus software just in case :D
Right. Something is majorly wrong. My old 32 MB card was up at 70-75 FPS normally, you should really be fine. However, I majorly tweaked mine.XP: Desktop, right click > Properties > Settings > Advanced > 3D.Here you should have settings for Performance and Quality (at least, I do). Pull the bar for optimal performance. You should be fine, other than that, you have an odd amount of ram which I havent seen before (in motion at least)
no no no, I presume you have 1 256 and 1 128 rams. The more ram the better, but you should be way up there, seriously... try the other post.

ok i tried optimal performace thingy and tried downsizing my res size from 1280x960 to 640x480 still nothing :D but the really really really wierd thing about that is my fps were still the same at both rez signs, now that cant be right at all
You definetly have something wrong. I get a minimum of 100 fps with my radeon 9800 pro. Make sure you have the lastest display drivers installed. All check the bios for the agp aperature size. It should be set no more than half the size of your ram. How much wattage is your power supply rated at. That card comsumes lot of power. You should have at least minimum 300W PS. Make sure the fan is running. Oddly I've seen sometimes the fan power cable isn't seated fully sometimes on a few brand new cards. If nothing else GET MORE RAM. 1 gb if your MB supports it. It will make your game run at lot better anyway so you would have nothing to lose.

That will not do that.

Most likely Antialiasing is on. Ansiotropic filtering is up too far.

You need to get into your Advanced display settings and make sure your settings are all off. You want to frag not to make it look awesome.

Try this.

Goto your add/remove and uninstall the 64 meg card drivers.

Then uninstall your ATI drivers. Have the Latest ATI drivers on your HD somewhere.

Then goto your System icon in your Control panel. Goto Device manager. Remove the XT card there.

Upon boot up let it find your Simple video adapter. Then restart and install the ATI drivers.

This should get you up to speed.

If not then install the ATI control panel. It has more options then the regular drivers have.

I get all my drivers here. www.guru3d.com

Let me know if that works.

This game should run with your computer but I would goto Sony's site and see if they have a Compatability chart or other where the AGP might not work with your Sony.

Also upgrade your soundcard drivers as well. There is a lot of sound in close combat.

Make sure you have DirectX 9.0b installed

Make sure you have OpenGL running NOT direct3D.

Get your in game sound OFF EAX and on just High Quality. Have NO CD sound as well.

One last thing...... What operating system?

What does it say when you hit Control-Alt-Del.

How many programs do you have running.

Is there a program writing to your HD while you are gaming?

strange, I run a FX5200 as well, but I get steady 85 FPS on Halflife. I also have a 2.4 ghz p4 as well though. There was a program that Mac had that boosted me from 40 to 85.

This is what I would do for now.If you can return the card.Wait until the new Nvidia causes the prices to drop and get a 5900XT Nvidia.A 9800XT is really too much card for your system.
