June 5, 200421 yr I just bought an MP3 player, and when I go to install (the files needed), it starts, gets to 0%, and then stalls and reboots. This happens to all my software when I try to install, I don't know whats happening. Any help??
June 5, 200421 yr Is it happening with all software installations or are you exaggerating?Does it do this only when installing from a cd drive?Do you have more than one cd drive you can try?Try an installation file that is stored on the harddrive. Does the problem still exist? Are you having any problems when CPU is busy, like when playing games or encoding? If so do you have a software to monitor your cpu temperature?Make sure you have a complete windows update. Make sure your virus definitions for your anti-virus scanner is up to date. Do a virus scan.If all else is good take your RAM and insert in different dimm slots. If you have more than one stick try one at a time in different slots. If none of that works post back and lets see what else we can rule out.
June 5, 200421 yr ahhh that happened to me aswell on my old comp....so i decided to reinstall the OS but that didnt work.. then i found out that my windows was unstable so i downloaded the update and it was ok... if u try and ur update doesnt work try System Restore. start>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore there select the date where ur comp was working perfectly and then it should be ok...
June 5, 200421 yr Author Creeping Death: I have WinXP Home Edition-install programs on the harddrive do the same-One CD Drive-No problems with games or anything else-Windows Update? If only I knew where to get that...I am going to try running in safe mode, if that doesn't work I'll move the RAM around.
June 5, 200421 yr Or Windows Update... some tell me where I can get that please you have it already: open an 'Internet Explorer' klick in the menus on 'Tool' and then on 'Windows Update' follow the instructions... Greets Panther
June 5, 200421 yr it could also be some malware that you could eliminate with Adaware and spybot, thats screwing with your system, just another idea to try! Hope this helps!
June 6, 200421 yr If you go to START/ALL Programs, a shortcut to Windows Update is located there by default, unless it had been delete. It can be accessed from control panel as well. If you can't find it, do a search on windows update from help and support and it should direct you to it.Make sure you scan for viruses with an up to date scanner. A virus could cause virtually any problem so this needs to be eliminated as a possibility.Updating Window Update and your Virus definitions and scheduling periodic virus scans, is the two most important tasks you can do to keep your machine safe.
