After one of my very bad exames, i started thinking... Although this idea has spooked around in my mind some time now. I came to the conclusion that our educations systhem is wrong. I mean, we teach the kids the wrong things. Just look at it, we can learn the secrets of chemistry and what do we do with it?? Blow eachother into oblivion.(k, not all of it) Not much has changed with 1000 years ago. We might be smarter, but we still kill eachother like never before. Now what i think school should focus on is learing to live with yourself and others. Let wisdom come first and real facts later. You might not know it but education makes us who we are. It is the monopoly on education that creates a strong country and unity. So there is power in education, lets just use it in a decent way. An other thing i hate is the discrimination in education, in the fact that if you cant do math, languages or science, you have no real future in modern life. Everything is based on math these days. Exept languages ofcourse and sport. This is something i see everyday. I totaly suck at math, sciences and languages. But i am very intelligent, it just concentrates in other things, things that are not important to our civilisation. And i think that it is the part we lack to improve our lifes. We all have a lot, and know a lot. But are we happyer than the ignorent? Or happyer than the people 1000 years ago (ok we have stability and more or less secure food supplies) But to be honest i find only little moments in my life of happyness...Now what do you think, i want no religion and politics. That always ends bad. So say what you think but in a neutral way.

I think that's the most ridiculous thing I've read in quite a while. If you are not good at math, languages, or science then you aren't smart.I don't feel like going into detail about everything that is wrong with what you just said, it'll be wasted.
Its always someones first reaction to blame the system instead of themselves....You could be better at the sujects you claim to suck at if you applied yourselfs towards them a little harder, natural ability or no natural ability. I lack the abstract though processes necessary to be a writer/English major, but I apply myself and I still earn B+'s and A-'s. Heck I even got a 770 on my Verbal SAT.Dont blame the system first, look at what YOU could be doing to better yourself, not how the system could better tailor itself to your specific needs (and the needs of all the other millions of students)

I am not blaming the system fore my bad results, i say the system has flaws. That is all. I have an IQ of +122 so dont start telling me who is smart or not. (100 is normal, +120 is very smart) I study psychology at on of Europe's best Univeristy's (so i know what intelligence is) I got myself an award fore media. I rock at history and geography. I had the best points of my class when I studied economy-human sciences. I know 3 languages (Dutch, French and english). And i played the European finals with young enterprises. I was the best in the yought parlement. And btw i have a disorder called Disortigrapy, looks like being dislectic, but i just write things wrong, instead of 85 i write 58 and stuff like that, i leave words to sometimes. And besides if nobody ever blamed the system the USA wouldn't exist, becouse nobody cared that they where english. Belgium wouldn't exist, I would be dutch. All the big revolutions would never happend. If you dont think about it nothing will ever change.
It's real easy to give up, but hard to be self-motivated. They SHOULD bring back the [corporal?] punishment (the belt, etc). Kids can hum out words very easily, but not pain. So many kids also do drugs now. Why? "Can you please stop? It's not good for you" or "WHACK" I like the WHACK method.I saw a sign somewhere that said something like this:Teach me I knowInvolve me I understandYou can tell kids drugs are bad for hours, but until you actually do something they could care less.My thoughts, -WSAENOTSOCK
You are smart yet you aren't good at math, english, or science? That doesn't make much sense. Did you take an IQ test on the internet or something? The IQ test must have been designed for the mentally retarded if you scored so high on it without actually being good at the three main courses in school.

Drugs most of the time has something to do with being cool, doing the things that are not allowed. It is being part of a group, children need that.(there should be other ways than drugs ofcourse). You also have the persons who use it to escape reality. I agrea on an educations whack sometims, you cant argue with a 3 year old. But on the other hand, experiments have shown that punishing your children dousn't stop the behavior, it will just go underground. They say that you should award you kid when they do something good.*edit* I did my IQ test in school. There is more in intelligence than those 3 courses you know. And when i say i suck at math, i suck at the very advanced forms of algebra and the stuff with the triangels. And science, i used to ace Biology, and Chemistry, but becouse i am not that good in learning things by head, it became harder later...

sterling im getting sick of your attitude...your being completely disrespectful...theres a difference between being wise and being intelligent...you are so close minded and most likely insecure that you have to take it out on decepicon...and the main courses in school depend on what you want to major in...my 3 main courses are Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Marching Band...so there

I suck at maths, science, all the chemistry and number kinda things. I was never in the top in the polish language classes (I'm Polish, so it's like english to you guys), more like "closer to the end" thing. I don't believeI've eaten all the brains there is in the world. I am resining from my college (African Studies) only because I'll get expelled in a couple months either way. but still I count myself an intelligent human being. Plus, I had an IQ test done by Mensa some three years ago and I scored a 138 points, which puts me into the top 5% of the worlds most intelligent people. Was it also a mentally retarded IQ test? The Mensa one?

On the other side, the IQ test test nothing more than the ability to pass an IQ test. 8)

Oh, I'm sorry. From now on I'll make sure to agree with every stupid thing people say. I know there's a difference between being wise and being intelligent, and being wise doesn't make one intelligent.

Why would I be insecure about anything? I'm not taking anything out on him. His post was stupid and I pointed that out. Stop taking the internet so seriously.

He suggested that instead of real courses like math, English, and science being the main focus in school that we should be taught how to live with eachother? That's stupid. If you want to learn that stuff take family studies or something. Teaching chemistry is not "wrong" because it can be used to blow things up, that too is stupid. Stupid.
I believe the problem is with the parents of these kids. If their parents would of raised them to do right then there most likely would not be a problem.
If you want to learn that stuff take family studies or something.

Oddly enough, learning "how to live with each other" and taking responsibility for one's own actions used to be something that one learned from their family. Hmmm, perhaps that's the foundation to the "flaw" in the system you reference....?

I was going to mention that as well. Teaching people how to live is the job of parents, or, if the child is mature enough, he can teach himself. It is not up to the education system to decide for people what is good and what is bad and how they should be living. It is up to each individual to make his own decisions.
well look at the world today...ideally its not a bad idea...kind of like communism...theoretically and ideally it is the perfect system....but humankind screws it up...so hes got a good and valid point
I like : math (i make hard math in electrinic graduate and i know what you mean), science & languages<--- I like very much to understand everybody but sometime it's hard to wonder and everybody know i have some difficult to speak & to understand them some words pronounciations and regional expressions.I learn also the "hands language" for the leafs.IQ is not important :I make 113 on an american test and it's not my first language but 4th in the chronologic learning but becomed 3rd since 25 years ago and perhaps 2nd with all of you (thx).I make 175 on a french test and it's my 2nd language but live in the french part of the Belgium (my first language is italien).Religion, very delicate : i lost my faith on the catholic religion when my mother died when i was 15 years old, now i believe & faith on the all religions because one have the feelings that the other dont have : like between boudist & musulman<--- isn't islamic but the Coran look like the same.Egidio.

Ah, there it is. My best suggestion for views such as this is to foster your faith in those ideological systems by means of immersion. Spend a year in a true communist society, then return and tell us of its many benefits. Ours is certainly far from the perfect system. My only regret is that that vast majority of youth, in this country at least, who dwell on its shortcomings never experience the "idealogically superior" systems abroad.
Kids these days really need to cope with parents, authority figures etc, better. Too many kids come to school saying "My mom's a *****, etc.
decepiticon, I did not insinuate you were dumb, hell Ill freely admit you are much smarter than me (me being of below average above average intellect, if that makes sense). Im just saying, dont always blame the system first. Consider what elements might have been your own fault, and what elements might have been the systems fault, and then go from there

No problem flak, i dont mind, i asked fore oppinions and you gave one. And i do blame the system sometimes fore wrong reasons, but that dousn't mean there are no flaws in it. The biggest flaw in the system i think is the fact that we call ourself civilised and advanced when we cant even stop killing eachother. I agrea that rasing a child is a main family thing, but not every kid is lucky to have good parents (i am one of the lucky ones). But the system today makes both parents go to work so there actualy is no one left to raise the kids. And becouse education is the cornerstone of our civilisation (try reading a book called nations and nationalism) it is also the key to improvment and change. I agrea that not everybody would accomplish the things learned, but at least we tried and we helped others. It all might sound a but utopic, but if you never try you will never know
Aw, Socky. Why did you tell them to stop arguing? Sterling seems like a smart guy. (English, Math, Science smart.) I was liking some of the points he was bringing up. So, CONTINUE ARGUING (In a nice considerate TA way, of course :D ) . And, I'd have to agree with Sterling on almost every aspect of this arguement. Being smart has to do with those three key subjects. If you are not good at them, and choose not to try enough to perfect yourself Well.. It says something. You're not smart, and are in no way trying to become smart. Which makes you stupid X (Times) infinity.
