Crummy P3? Take that back!!!!!!!! :D

I am building my own computer too. I am spending about $950 on it. I have everything in a Excel document. Everything has been exstensivly researched. I already have the case and the power supply, paid $80 total. But I still have a ways to go with it. Do you know how much you are planning to spend?
Hey, when I first played Half Life I had AMD 400 and 56K modem. Ya that was the good old days. Now I have P4 2.4, 1G Ram, 19" mon, 80G HD,GeForce 128Meg ram card and no more dial up. Things run much smoother now!!!!Nice job Sky, I always get mine custom built for me but never made my own and would like to give it a try.

I wouldn't think you would need $900 for a home brew, but if you want top-of-the-line, go for it. :D I'm willing to spend the money so i can get "current". When technology changes I might as well too. My old P3 board didn't have an AGP Slot, ridiculous... AMD is pretty cheap so i'd thought I'd give it a try. Not bad at games, but of course I'm running a PCI card at the moment. =P I'm probably gonna stick with Nvidia since I like their stuff. The Half-Life 2 Beta worked nicely too. Not at all bad.

"Exstensivly" researched? Prices change too much to know exactly how much you will spend on it.
sam extensive research can reveal a lot about upcoming releases. My system when I got it was based on an alienware system that retailed for about $3000. I built it myself and upgraded some of the things so it was better and my parents only spent about $1500 totali have built about 60 systems for friends in the past 5 years... you can find great prices out there

I manufacture everything in my back yard with rocks and grass.

I know this chip is old, but hey MONEYwise. I'm continuing the "upgrade process". I'm getting a newer chip sooner or later. And I have to get an AGP Vid Card, so i dont have to screw around with a PCI card.
Someone tell me if i'm wrong but I've never heard of a duron 2000. Are you sure it isn't an XP Athlon 2000+. If so the clock speed is 1.67ghz, but amd markets their processer with 2000 to show that although the frequency is lower it will perform similiar to an intel 2.0ghz cpu, actually better in my opinion, especially with gaming.
See, since I have 56k I don't get to really enjoy my FPS games that much, so when I am not playing WC3, I am usally looking at parts. Ok, almost every day. I keep everything up to date, and if I see a good sale, then I take it into consideration due to many different factors. One thing I have noticed when I look at those sites that you customize your computer, they must have like a $300 labor cost, or somthing. It is amazing. Now I am not talking about Alienware, they don't count because they don't have a goal to make a "cheaper" computer, they only do top of the line stuff.Sam, looks like you are pretty smart to have done what you have with your rocks and grass. :D
