July 7, 200421 yr Hey, figured out I need a new mobo and processor, since I won't be able to play any new games without a new set of these :lol:Basically, I want to play JO:TR, but it's not working great on a 1.4GhZ and a 3 year old Motherboard. So... give me a set of Mobo and processor that are compatible and will help my games run smoother :lol:I'll also grab a sound card, since sound is integrated on this piece of crap >: (Here are my current specs:RADEON 9200P4 1.4GhZIntegrated Audio40GB HDNeed anything else, just ask.I also will try to convince my parents to let me reinstall Windows, and put everything they need on CD's. This SHOULD get rid of many problems I have come across. Peace out,-Sock
July 7, 200421 yr I would definitely reinstall windows when changing the motherboard. Sometimes it works fine depending on what your changing from and to, but reinstalled will make the OS much more stable.I just say get an AMD cpu & compatible mobo. How much are you willing to spend? You say you want a new mobo, cpu, & sound card. You will probably need different memory. What type, amount, and speed of your current memory. Do you need a video card. You might get some improvement, but that video card might hold you back. Give us specs on your power supply too so that we'll know if its ok to use with newer components that we suggest. The sound card probably will be the least that will help performance and you should concentrate on other components that would be more critical unless you real big on getting very high quality sound. Remember that when you change the mobo you will get different onboard sound that you just might find is ok.
July 7, 200421 yr off the top of my head without the extra specs that Creep asked forAbit or Asus Mobo, with any AMD Athlon (must be athlon duron = crappy) processor (baron core) above 2600+, looking for either 333 or 400 FSB (think 400 only comes on the 3000+ and the 3200+ CPU's tho, if you get a 333 processor, dont bother getting 400 ram, its a waste in the short term unless you get a CPU runing a 400mhz clock!..If you can get one of the above makes of boards with SOUNDSTORM.... you wont need another sound card so that means more money for the CPU and MOBO.... speak to mac for exact makes, as he knows alot more about Abit than i do, for Asus i would recommend the A7N8 - Range, Rock solid and i haveny had a problem as yet.
July 7, 200421 yr this is where i buy all my puter stuff. I have built about 25 0r 30 puters for friends and other ppl and have NEVER had any problems with any of the products i have used. www.tigerdirect.com this is what i use: soyo MB 845PE-ITE8712 with a P4 2.6 processor 768 ddr ram sound blaster live gforce FX 5200 256 ram vid card 80 GB seagate hard drive 533.4 bus speed This puter ran starwars galaxies like a champ(if you ever played this game youd know what i mean) so you can only imagine how it runs FA
July 7, 200421 yr For gaming AMD processors are much better than Intel, also they are cheaper and you get the best price per performance. The FX5200 video cards are horrible, they are nothing better than paper weights, and I've seen many complaints from those. Some of the older Nvidia cards even run better than them. They were the worst card ever produced which is claimed by hundreds of people that I've seen on the net in forums. Go post a thread about those cards in Anandtech forums and you'll get many negative replies about those cards.
July 7, 200421 yr My GF3 TI200 SMOKED a 5200.Ask Flakmagnet. He came over and I put one in his system. It was a TWO time performance difference. FPS that is.Get a Shuttle AN35N UltraAMD Barton 2500512mb of PC2700 DDRThis will be the least expensive route for you to go as far as performance goes.If you can afford PC 3200 get it but I would not spend the extra here. I would spend the extra on a better videocard.
July 7, 200421 yr I thought the 5200's were the equivalent to GF2, or some such nonsense like that. BTW: Cheap-end geforce cards always, always are horribly bad, because the old series that isn't as cheap can outperform them; everytime i've seen.
