April 22, 200323 yr I havent been on Fa recently as i have been addicted to a cult HL mod i discovered. Called Battlegrounds, this mod is actually a revolutionary war mod, complete with muskets, cannons, and sabers. It plays a whole lot better than it sounds, with vicious close combat, INTENSE long range musket duels, and a very epic feel. The musket accuracy is modeled very nicely, with the 24-30 shots you start with, its not uncommon to only kill 3-4 people at most, than its bayonet time. The reloading has been shortened from the full drill by a bit, but it still feels authentic. The sprites, and sound is also hella sweet. Of course the game has its problems, the models suck when you look at them up close, and the commander class is a bit bugged but other than that, i love it. There are about 20 servers with about 150 people playing at any given time. I really want to srpead the word of battlegrounds around, so i ask you guys to please DL it and give it a try as a nice diversion from FA. You can find it at fileplanet among other places. Here are some of the sweet experiences I have in game so far. This clan called BFE rallied its members around a stonewall in the game as the Brits were about to breakthrough. Me, the loyal minuteman tagged along. About 7 or 8 of us lined up behind the wall and started volleying into the advancing British just as our reinforcements arrived and we drove them back.As the British on this one map that is an open field with a hill on each side where the teams spawn, a group of us occupied the house on our side of the hill. Breaking out the windows, upturning a table inside for cover (yes, we did this), and blockading the door with a chair, we opened fire on the advancing rebels. After killing a few, they reached the house and almost broke in, only ample use of bayonet, knife, and close range fire kept the saber and pistol wielding commanders from hacking us down. As their attack on our house bogged down, our reinforcements arrived and promptly hurled back the rebels. On the same field map, a large group of us (the British again), began an epic firefight. Squads of us maneuvered across the map, those with longrifles providing ranged cover as the brown besses w/ bayonets and the commanders began assaulting American positions behind walls and in craters. At one point, me an 2 other guys in a crater began waging a pointblank musket battle for a couple minutes with some Americans behind a stone wall a couple yards ahead, no AWPs in this game. On a map that consisted of a bridge, an open field with a large ruined builing on a hill in the middle of the field, and a small forest, I fought a desperate retreat action as the British closed in. First they drove us from a wall in the field with enfilading fire from a nearby small building and rail fence, than the dastardly Brits fought us at close range in some woods before the bridge, than finally we held them at bay with musket fire across the bridge with more woods as cover. All in all, some epic gameplay, there are some bugs, and close comabt gets kind of gay, but at least theres no bunny hopping (thanks to a nice stamina system). Please try it out guys and help keep it afloat till the next release fixes some issues

April 22, 200323 yr This is a nice story, but it is in the forums. Why don't you cut and paste it for a feature story on thr web site. hmm We also have an area that you can submit Reviews. Either way, this would be a nice thing to have on the site.
April 22, 200323 yr lol flak that story could never happen i play the battle grounds and i know the map your talking about that chair cannot block the door and you cannt flip pver the table because its all ways over its a nice story and all but it is a lie
April 22, 200323 yr it was planethalflife's mod of the week once...look there...I'm not sure what the homepage is
April 23, 200323 yr Arent these games going a bit too far back in time? I mean dude, soon we're gonna have like a Caveman mod. whacking eachother in the head with bones and clubs. Then when you get 10 kills you can ride in on a Triceratops and stap people with a wooden spear.
April 23, 200323 yr If they made a mod out of the Revolutionary War, then they should make on for the Napoleonic Wars. Oooh! I have an idea! they should make one out of the European colonial wars in Africa during the 1800s and early 1900s. Brits v. Zulus, or something like that. that would be a real challenge for the Zulus, kinda like Natural Selection is for the marines.
April 23, 200323 yr I think I played it like.. the first week it was released. It was very fun. The only problem I had is that there was like 5 servers and over time it reduced to like 3. Then I started to get more into FA, then I was invited into FA... then I just forgot about it.
April 23, 200323 yr Author ok, so that table part was a lie, but everything else i said was true, oh and there are now 20 servers for the game, a lot of them full.
