August 3, 200421 yr I'm trying to save as much money as possible on my computer, and I remembered about the old computer we have downstairs (1994 maybe)So I was wondering if the floppy drive technology has changed so much that I couldn't salvage that old floppy drive. (still works) I can also grab the speakers temporarily from it, and even the 15" monitor if need be. I don't think I'll use the Floppy drive too often, so I don't really want to spend $30 on a new one. So, could I salvage that floppy drive? Or has the new technology affected them too. Just wondering. -Sock
August 3, 200421 yr you should be able to use it if its a 1.44 mb floppy and your using 1.44 mb floppies unless its a ls120 drive then you'll need ls120 disk cause a 1.44 wont hold 120mb and I've never seen a floppy drive cost more than 10 bucks where are you shopping?
August 4, 200421 yr Here too, a new floppy disk 1.44 MB. 3"1/2 cost 8 to 10 euros = $10!But the old floppy disk can be connected to your new computer : the technology don't changed for this peripheral. But a new one is best than reuse an old floppy in full of dust...Egidio.
August 4, 200421 yr I was wondering if a floppy drive is really needed any more? Becuase CD-RWs is what I use any more. And if I really needed to use it I could just take the USB one my Mom has and plug it in. (She has it for her laptop). Save me $10
August 4, 200421 yr You don't use a 700 MB. if you have enough with 1 MB. to save your documents, datas or dowloaded zipped file ?And when you have 700 MB. with all your files, here is time to write it on cd-r.If each time you write on a cd-rw for low files, you burn your cd writer... Because the t° of the laser for to write is 250°C or (250°*1.8 )+32°= 482°F.Egidio.
August 4, 200421 yr floppy drives suck major you know what. i'll tell you what. you should just beat yourself in the head with it untill it breaks. and if you have any floppy disks then you should just beat yourself with those too.
August 4, 200421 yr Or like me, buy a second hd (80 or 120 GB.) or a 250 GB. Iomega USB removal hard disk but it's most expensive than a floppy. When i have 700 MB. of datas or 4.7 GB. datas for the same things, i write a cd-r or dvd+r directely. Egidio.
August 4, 200421 yr i use my floppy all the time when i am dealing with small files such as word doc. very helpful specially since i am in school and i need to do a project or something.-G

August 4, 200421 yr Author I don't need them all I want a floppy drive "just in case" http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=630 Those were the prices, and that's why I didn't want to spend $25 on a floppy drive (Canadian) I'll just grab the old one, not like I'll use it much anyways. My total cost is $590 + $41.15 S & H, $97.81 Taxes (stupid 15%!) (but I get $100 in mail-in-rebates )
