August 4, 200421 yr This problem first started when Shultz noticed that the left menu side wasn't working . . . I told him that it's an animation thing and maybe you turned it off. Sure enough that's what he did  here is the quote: Srg_Shultz]they working now. i forgot changing but found the firewall settings had been cranked up, preventing all but simplest net connectivity in 2nd pc. Now i recall why, from late night play in fa at ta friday night /early saturday morning, both of us were playing with both pcs, but pc2 kept going black screen and total freeze up. suggesting possibly that nic card ip was under attack. i asked shaw cable to look into it. they said easiest thing is get another $10 nic card (which gets assigned new ip) and keep ip stealth and firewall settings strong. So now with this problem out of the way a new problem has come up . . . Ok Shultz and I are trying to figure out why on pc2 which is a amd pc we can't get the Macromedia flash player to work. Tried to go to the website but it causes the browser to crash. Or any other website that uses the flash player. Here is what Shutlz has been doing to fix this problem but having no luck . . . Srg_Shultz]but before i found/remembered cause, i assumed problem with flash player, no add/remove for that, so tried reinstalling more then once without success. found one of it's folders in c:\windows\apps and deleted it since i was getting brwser error windows saying it had to restart browser whenever i tried a flash game. ran reg cleaners which found and removed stuff. i noticed somewhere else in windows subfolders last night 2 folders with getflash.exe so seems i have multiple related duplicate folders to clean out before it work right. may have to just uninstall browser and many saved web addresses  Srg_Shultz]unchecking the firewall box "prevent animations" got left menu popups going. have had trouble getting flash player reinstalled and working after deleting some folders. most but not all flash games still get browser error popup asking to send error report and restart browser. sig animations working now. question mark on ta home page doesn't rotate when not logged in, as it does on other pc. tried space invaders here as anonymous and worked, airfox too, tetris. beat the penquin got browser error. logged in, space invaders now also got error. any suggestions ? do some flash games here and that rotating question mark need something set or installed that i may not have ? in add/remove list all i get from ms explorer browser removal button is repair, add, or restore to realier version. no uninstall browser & addons option found. i tried restore which put browser 6 back to 5. redid updates to it back to 6. prob persists. pc2 (problem pc) add/remove list shows just "macromedia shockwave player". pc1 list shows that and "macromedia flash mx 2004" and "shockwave". Then he found a website that might help but . . . Srg_Shultz]the following link at microsoft.com helped a little ... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302396 got anonymous ta user question mark spinning now and can load www.macromedia.com page without crashing ie browser. all folders/registry keys related to flash players are gone. but ta flash games still get error from ie browser saying must restart browser. didn't try downloading flashplayer 7 or shockwave player yet as now it says it's only a free trial for 30 days. seems they gonna start charging for it. i'd prefer to find installer for flash 6 if anywhere i think. any input on this ? am i misunderstanding ? Now is there anyway to stop the browser from crashing everytime a flash game is used? There must be someone here who has some great knowledge on flash players and how they work and how to stop a browser from crashing? And is the a way to uninstall the browser and then reinstall would that fix the problem or is it the computer is all messed up for good?

August 5, 200421 yr Author The browser used is Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0. Is there any chance that maybe it's no working right anymore and needs to be re-downloaded and re-installed? Perhaps this will fix the problem? Maybe there is something more than just the Macromedia flash player not working or unable to download but something wrong with the Microsoft Internet Explorer?

August 5, 200421 yr I am 1 of many with this problem considering maybe around 1 % actually post it at macromedia and microsoft. The repeating microsoft browser v6 error send to microsoft popups when it says must restart browser must be flooding microsoft. if they PAY any attention to them maybe some pressure will be on to address this. the link to see about macromedia forum posts on ths is ... http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=185&threadid=838653 the link to see microsoft faq response on this is ... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302396 i've tried all suggestions in those threads accept safe mode idea. they have winxp that has safe mode admin option. i have win98se but assume my safe mode is as good as admin as no other option given by it. shultz can't "flash" anywhere til solution is found  i seem to get shockwave installed/working since when i go to main www.macromedia.com page it shows shock flash animation. and it shows in add/remove list. but attempts that say successful for flash 7 install leave no evidence in add/remove list. at this stage, some macromedia pages casue browser error. at TA site ... with just shockwave apparently working ... i can only play "beat the penquin" when not logged in. as anonymous all other flash games crash browser. logged in, not even penquin works. well sometimes it did and sometimes not in this spiraling out of control circle of tryign this and tryign that. should be clue here to someone knowledgeable. "and the answer is" ? please don't waste space here joking around. this seroiusly stressing me out. ps : thanks paladin, no go yet.

August 6, 200421 yr I got them all working now logged in or not for anyone searching forums here in future with similar probs, here's what i had to do :1- check shortcut or problem program to know where it's folder is because uninstalling leaves folder and the odd file in which must be deleted after uninstalling and rebooting. or use "add/remove" in windows control panel if you can find referance to it there. if not, read on.2-use file manager (desktop computer-explore) to use "find" option and try various searches like : "macromed" ; "shockwave" ; "flash" . to see all folders & files that are left behind related to it. delete them if sure they only for that program. reboot.3-i had been using "fix-it 2000"-"win registry cleaner" and "norton utilities"-"windoctor", repeatedly til they find no more errors, then to the other one and back because 1 reg fixer would miss some the other would find, then the 1st 1 would find more after the 2nd was done cleaning registry. reboot.4-it turned out that the 2 reg cleaners actually didn't get all registry keys (referances and settings) for the shock and flash software. i found this out when i got up courage to use manual registry editor. win has 1 called "regedit" to enter in run box and run. i used norton manual reg editor because it records changes i make in case i need to reverse any. SO USE MANUAL REGISTRY EDITOR after making a registry backup in case you make things worse. use reg editor "find" same as done above for those same words. many windows registry folders and sometimes just a key in an ok key folder. don't delete a key folder unless it is clearly named for just the problem software. sometimes the folder is used by other software so you only take the keys in it out relating to problem software. once 1 deleted, use f3 key or whatever specified, to go down list to next occurance. it may take few seconds so be patient. just hit that key evry 10 seconds or so as it will come up empty from previous deletions that have other referances related to them. reboot.5-run automatic registry cleaners again. reboot if anything found and fixed.6- before attempting installation again, be sure nothing but windows (explorer) and systray show in ctrl-alt-del list. no firewall, antivirus, or anything. i had shut everything off too, so know for sure my registry was too messed up from multiple attempts to install that created many duplicates in registry and hard drive, preventing ever getting it working.7-once installed, i tried website flash games. not logged in they all worked. logged in to website for them to record my scoring, the games restarted the browser and asked to send error report to microsoft like before. so it was clear something preventing website "seeing" me and how i was doing in flash game so they could record scoring on their lists. disabling firewall got all games working while logged in to site. since other pc here is same setup, and it works wit hfirewall on, i just have to find the firewall setting i nthis pc that is blocking this data flow.8-because the browser error window that said it would have to restart all browser windows showed "iexplore" (ms browser 60) and "msvcrt.dll", i did file manager search for msvcrt.dll. it showed up in various folders. the 1 in windows\system was the newest (6.10...) of all those. windows would not let me rename it saying in use. so in dos mode i renamed it with bac extension. then copied closest older version of it from elsewhere. i also noticed the "Joint Operations" demo folder had one very old version of this file. i will try replacing it with a newer 1 t osee of bad demo performance improves.i'll copy/paste this to macromedia website forum where lots of similar probs posted. ofcourse these steps would apply to any software running/uninstalling/reinstalling problem.as i tell the boys, "clean up your own mess". ask for help how if needed."Goodknobin" [TBT]Srg_Shultz "mission accomplished"
