AGP aperture?

Featured Replies

ok what is AGP aperture?I know what an aperture is but, in powerstrip it says under "AGP aperture", 64mb.does that mean when I get my 5700LE, that only a quarter of its 256mb will be used?

no, without getting too mych into it, iit determines how much memory will be used and how much memory will be left over if needed for processing extra textures and such, basically, the with 128-256mb car, you want to set it lower, to 64mb, i know that seems counter-intuitive, but just google it if you want to know the details

Mine is 128 and from what I have read...unless you have a hella card that is over kill. Also if you go more than that you may lose some performance. I would go with 64 most 128 most likely.

the 5700 le is a slightly slower, cheaper version of the normal 256mb verison of the 5700

64 is what most people should run.If you ahve 128 on your card and 256 of system ram then 64.If you have 64 on board with the above. Then 64 ap.The larger settings were for the old cards that had low ram like 16mb and 32mb.

I don't want to sound as a truth of last instance, but to clear this issue for myself I just spent 4 hours on testing different apperture sizes. As a test I used AquaMark3 www.aquamark3.com with average settings (cos this test REALLY can push your video system to the edge). The results were very simple: at least for AquaMark and my system changing AGP apperture size has no impact whatsoever. Even more, changing such parameters as memory speed (normal-turbo-ultra, etc) and memory latency time did not change test results.

Test specs for those, who is interested:

System: P4 1,6, 1G RAM, RADEON 9800 PRO 128M

Aquamark settings: 1024x768x32, AA off, Aniso 4x, Detail: Very High.

Apperture sizes 32, 64, 128, 256, 512.

Test run 4 times for each size.

All scores I got were between 24,5 and 26,5 without any visible pattern.
