Posted August 27, 200421 yr hey kywalker your studying physics right? if so i got some questions for you...my physics teacher is a complete moron
August 27, 200421 yr I had to drop AP Physics becaus eit was the same time as AP European History that really sux. i REALLY enjoyed AP physics... got a 4 on it in fact. and at our school you took AP euro your sophmore year and AP american junior. -G
August 27, 200421 yr we just got ap euro this year and i took US my sophmore year.... i didnt want to work it too hard though im really active with sports and stuff like that. i also have ap english, ap chem, ap macro economics, ap micro eco... and thats al li wanted to attepmt i have 6 other classes this year
August 27, 200421 yr hes at some psysics place.... i see him on the server every once in a while... says he hates it there.. lol... -G
August 28, 200421 yr the box monster got him Ahh yes, last time HE threw his garbage out without a .50 cal by his side. Poor guy.
August 28, 200421 yr hes at some psysics place.... i see him on the server every once in a while... says he hates it there.. lol... -G Its called Institute of Electron Technology. And it IS boring. All we do is watcxh the semiconductors growing in L(iquid)P(hase)E(pitaxy) reactor. And we cant do anything. Luckily my time is up there on tuesday. hey kywalker your studying physics right? if so i got some questions for you...my physics teacher is a complete moron Shoot (why didnt you do it in the first place?).
August 28, 200421 yr Author i wasnt sure if it was physics you were studying...ok well anyways my teacher is a moron and gives us assignments about things that isnt in our text and he doesnt even tell us what the definition of the words are...no notes...nothing....but i need to know about these thingsSig FigsParallaxPrecisionAccuracymost of you guys are like "accuracy well that..." NO your already wrong... its a physics term for something or other...kywalker thanks in advance
August 28, 200421 yr Parallax, well that's the apparent displacement of an object caused by a change in the position from which it is viewed, right? (I don't know, actually, www.dictionary.com makes me sound smart woo!)
August 28, 200421 yr you almost got it sock..... not ellaborate on it comon you can do it... and freak... sig figs is a pain in the butt but teachers WILL look for that ... more in chem than physics... but when tring to figure out the # of stars there are in the universe... like we had to....... with a complicated formula... you need to learn your sig figs.... its a pretty simple concept.... -G
August 28, 200421 yr Parallax is what Sock said it was. Basically, if you view an object from two different places that don't line up to the object you're looking at, the object will appear different or moved. Such as when you view a nearby object with one eye closed. If you open that eye and close the other and change back and forth, you'll notice that the object seems to move. Each eye gets an individual image.Sig Figs is just short for Significant Figures. A significant figure is any number in the value that isn't 0. "Zero" is a significant figure if it is between two numbers or is beyond the decimal and not just holding a place. 10.001 has 5 significant figures but 1000 only has 1. 12.4 would have 3 sigfigs, 12.04 would have 4, .0012 also has 4. etc etc.Basically, when you're given a number and you use it to make computations, you don't give it more sig figs than what you started with. Say you have a value of 3.56 N and 4.2 N. In the case of multiplication and division, you take the number with the least amount of sig figs and however many it has, that's how many the answer will have. Although 3.56*4.2 gives you a value of 14.952, only two of those numbers are significant. Your answer would be 15, since you round up. With addition and subtraction, you line up the decimal points and use the number with the least amount of decimal places to set the number of sigfigs. So, 2.58 + 3.007 equals 5.587, but with sigfigs the answer would be 5.59.Accuracy: The ability of a measurement to match the actual value of the quantity being measured. In mathematics, it is How close to the real value a measurement is.Precision: The number of significant digits to which a value has been reliably measured.
August 28, 200421 yr Parallax:'Displacement' of closer object in comparison to distant objects, resulting from change of place of observation (usually of observer). In other words: if you are moving closer objects are misplaced in comparison to distant objects. If observer's movement is periodical (like earth rotation on its axis [geocentric] or rotation around the sun[heliocentric]), you can define parallax angle: (oh man, this is goona be tough) half of the difference in view angles of observation of object in two moments of time, distant half a period of periodical movement (will have to draw it).Measurement of parallax angle can help in measuring the distance from the object. We use geocentric parallax to measure distance from solar system objects and heliocentric parallax to measure distance from more distant objects. In the latter case we can use approximate formula:D = 1/A, where D - distance in parseks and A - parallax angle in angle minutes.Rest will take time, mostly becouse i have to translate from english to physicist.PS i just saw what haya posted. And i believe i had the rest of definitions on numerical receips. WHat he said is correct of course.
August 28, 200421 yr Author i wonder why my teacher couldnt explain it...thanks that really cleared things up
