RIP BFV Server, TA Clan's Future

Featured Replies

-The Battlefield Vietnam server will be shutdown at the end of this month due to non-participation. It appears most people have either gone back to FA, moved onto other games, or they have purchased Joint Operations and play on other servers.

- For those who want to play BFV, please meet on the BFV Ventrilo channel for "server of the day " connection.

NOTE: The Firearms server will not be affected by the shutdown and will remain in operation.

-A new server "deal" will take place sometime in the future, and TAC will once again procure a larger server that will accommodate both BFV and Firearms games.

-The Armory Clan is presently being evaluated, and plans are being made to decide its future. Here are a few comments I plan to introduce at the Senior Counsel Meeting. The comments are just an extract, and are mine and mine alone:

With the unauthorized introduction of JO into the TAC clan, coupled with our short DC phase, and now currently our BFV phase, we've become fragmented as a clan with TAC members going in different directions. We seemed to have lost all the wonderful camaraderie, cohesiveness, and friendship we previously experienced as a simple FA clan. I truly hope we can bring this back, as I really miss all the laughs, the jokes, and the teamwork we once shared. This is what makes gaming fun, and I truly believe we can bring back the TA magic we once experienced.

- Some members may leave because of these decisions, and I will understand, but others will come. Our numbers will grow as we step up our recruiting efforts on a Grande scale.

- A new rank structure, as already being seen in the Admins/SC forum section, is a way to motivate members who wish to excel. We will be drafting up a new set of clan rules that would mirror our present rules. The rules will also state how members can get promoted in an objective and positive way. Present members will be promoted to certain ranks based on tenor and participation.

In the future, I would like to see regular practices with BFV/POE in an attempt to better prepare our members for competition in Battlefield2 (when it comes out). We have a lot of great people, and wonderful talent that will give us a head start of the competition. We can do this by focusing on teamwork, communication, and tactical deployment. Battlefield 2, although a new and improved game engine, is said to have the same feel as its predecessors, BF1942 & BFV.

Firearms has been our mainstay (bread & butter), or should I say that The Armory has been the mainstay of Firearms. We have put up with a lot of bullshit over the past few years from the so-called FA Community, and to this day we still continue to have some problems with them.

the FA player-base increased slightly when the WON server went down, but the numbers are starting to drop again. We have provided a superb Firearms server to "literally" thousands and thousands over 2.7 years, and it will soon be time to say goodbye. I know some of you have reached a certain level of competency at the game, and it is hard to give it up because you feel you are good. I do believe, however, that if you are good at playing Firearms, you will also be good as a player in the Battlefield series.

This information would normally be seen by TAC members only, but we have so many friends that have become a part of clan, I felt it neceassary to inform our friends as well.

That's the thing that happens GatorClans that excel usually stick to a singular game or mod and that is how they stick together. What would probably work is if you say stuck with BattleField 1942/Vietnam/BF 2 and just do that and expand into the modsMultiple games would just cause too much distance between membersI liked TA because they were FA, and FA onlynow a large portion of the people I see I do not know, and most don't play FAWhat I guess I'm trying to say is, stick to a game and it's subsequent mods, whether that turns in HL2, BF2, etcMost of these games people will play for a few months and stop, no true replay value due to lack of modifications
this is sad to hear, since my current caln recently just switched from FA to BFV and another halflife mod, and i was gonna look forward to play in your server again :Danyway, i will most likely buy BF2, so i guess i will play with you guys whenever that comes out :)
Finally, I've been waiting for a rank system!BTW, I've been enjoying my little "vacation" from FA... I've temporarly retired my m79 for a Timber Wolf.
Well, I hope to see you guys stick it through. I've always had respect for you and your clan Gator, and I think you've put in a hell of a lot of effort, more than you see with a typical clan/community. I'll be here till .. well till it's shut down. Good luck and such.
i have been waiting for this post for a while now. rank structure huh? hmm. must... beat.... god cow...... :D I will most likely move onto BFV and such but I will still persue HL2 for my love for hl is great. I have never played BFV and i hope this is a good movement for this clan-Gon a side note i hope we are the last server out there for FA. would be great to give an actual goodbye to FA
Maybe should have stayed with DC i still see alot of servers fulljust wish i was still playing DC on the armory :D
I think 2 games max is all that the clan should officially play. This means if there is to be a future server that supports FA, we should choose between PoE or BFV. (I am personally in favor of BFV over PoE)This also means we should drop BFV or PoE when BF2 comes out.
battlefield 2 and JO for me, i know we usually hget a good group going regularly on the vent joint ops channel
One of the reasons I was reluctant to join a "clan" in the first place... I am only able to play certain nights, and I play the Battlefield series only? Most often, I check, and there is no one there, and I usually don't play then at all. I found TAC thru BFV, now, my reason for being here is gone. Some what dissapointed I guess. I'll stick around for a short time to see what happens, then I'll guess I'll have to go play somewhere else?TFD
Thanks Gator for sharing this with us. I believe you are going in the right direction. I do miss the early days of the TAC DC server. Lots of TAC and others always on. It was always lots of fun. Listening on ventrilo always made me laugh (I need to learn to talk more lol).
We should have a good old-ish fashioned big game of DC one night. I'd be up for it.
The problem I see is that today there are soo many different FPS games out there. It's much harder to find a commen ground every one likes. I for myself have played a lot of different ones over the years but I noticed a trend. Most new games have a much shorter life spawn than older ones did. I remeber I used to play Quake II mods long after Half-life and CS came out. Sure it didn't look as cool as HL or CS but the game play was fun and my hardware was able to run it smooth. Then I switched to Firearms and played (well still do) a lot. Again it might not look as pritty as BF:V or JO but I can run it at 100fps and have a great blast with a lot of people I know.I don't think the majority of people have the hardware it takes to run these new games as well as the old ones, that's also one of the reasons a lot of people still play these older games add to this the abundance (sp?) of so many FPS games it's only natural that the life spawn of game will never be as long as it used to be for Quake II or Half-Life.I own and played BF:V (also PoE) and JO (still do). Both games have their own charms and quicks (like FA dose) but both do not run 100fps on my system and there are a lot less people I know who play regularly. This might be due to the peoplebase being streched more thin due to the many choices and preferences. Also when I compare BF:V (also PoE) or JO to FA I still have a better time playing FA than any other game so far. Maybe because of the game play, the people, the fps and my preferences of game style :D or all of it, I don't really know what it is...We will see what the future will bring, I'm skeptical as of BF2 will be that good (same goes actually for HL2), sure looks nice and stuff but looks are just part of a good game and fun gaming experiance in my opinion. So we will see :) Personally I am a little bit upset at EA and their attempt to simplify games to apeal to mass marked (but then that might just be me :) ) Sure they added all the Vehicle stuff but then screwed up on the regular FPS game play (IMO, so please don't kill me if you disagree :( )Other would say that JO has better FPS game play but they totally screwed up the vehicles (at least choppers if you ask some people :) ) But since I don't really care that much for vehicles in a FPS I don't mind that. Again it's about what you like to play and nowadays there are so many different options.I'll be sticking around here what ever will happen. Even if we end up all playing different games I'll be here to chat or hang around with good friends :) I'll might even try all the different games  That's what makes this place such a great place to be. It's not the game we play but the friends we made over the years......and hopefully many more to come. Thank you Gator and all the people who make this place possible![DIAL]Doc
the way i see it is, im all for an organized central game, but im not sure about the fractured part, other than people who's rigs cant really handle anything but FA. I mean, there's a large number of people who play both JO and BFV/PoE regularly and people talk to each other and here about the other games, and then go out and play those and maybe get them too, though i can see why you would want an organized central game
I actually saw this coming. Checking the BFV server almost nightly for peaple and seeing it empty gave me the feeling it was gonna happen. I'm truly sorry to see it go, but life goes on.I almost picked up JO today. But already having bought 2 games in the past year to stay with my 'mates (both BF 1942 and BFV), I'm a little peeved at the idea of having to buy a 3rd, espeically one who's system requirements I barely make... and I'm not about to upgrade a CPU I've barely had a year and a half. This replacing computers every year is freakin' ridiculous.I've been happy with the BF series thus far, and I had plans to get BF2 when it releases, so the clan taking that direction will not break my heart. I'm a little taken aback by how everybody is embracing PoE, I found it to be just a bad DC wannabe myself. But as I said before, I realise the game is still in beta and has alot of bugs to work out so I'm willing to give it a chance. At any rate, I'm not going anywhere at the moment. Till I see a server of ours with peaple on it (other than FA), I'll be playing Natural Selection at "Snakes Den" or Day of Defeat on servers that both the 181st and Israeli Brigade run. When PoE server is full, or BF2 is out, I'll be here with ya.
The first FA server i ever played on was [TA] The Armory. At that time, 2.65, <TAC> had alot of members i got on well with e.g. Lilly (Now NsD btw :D ), Klif, that Sheep Guy and Kywalker but now <TAC> has alot of lamers in the clan, sad but true, which isnt to say they dont have alot of fun guys still coz they do, Sam.Gen, Punisher, Psy4, BTD and especially Sharpshooter6 coz he is damn hawt and seksy <3FA is dieing and i dont think anyone would begrudge you the chance to make a permanent move to the BF series.

I think those are very good decisions Gator. You're right, we will lose some members, but I think it's important to understand we don't want to lose them. If they leave, it's their choice, We're not delibritly dropping them for the fun of it. As you said, Some people will move on with the clan and some people will not. It's that simple. I think we'll make a great Battlefield:2 clan, and I hope everything works out and we don't lose too many great and fun <TAC> players in the process.

but now <TAC> has alot of lamers in the clan, sad but true.

P.S. Wellsy you say annoying things alot.
that Sheep Guy

You mean Kazaganthi (something like that), right? Hehehe, that guys was a hoot. "Guard your sheep! The Kazaganthi is coming!" Or something along those lines. 8)
The BF games are NOT FPS games, they are "Action" games. They aren't intended to be the same type of playing style as HL type FPS games. I personally feel they have a lame infantry feel, but the vehicles are really fun. (I just wish I could fly) FA is dying out, it has been for a long time now, and the player base is shrinking fairly fast. We will need a new main TAC game with a server, but I feel it's way too early to start planning on standardizing on a game that hasn't been released yet, no matter how excited some of us feel about it's possibilities.Yes, I play FA. I am not going to traipse off and play NS or DoD or CS or anything other HL mod. I bought HL to play FA, and when FA goes, I will never run HL again. I also bought BF:1942 to play DC, even though I didn't like it. I did enjoy playing in DC CAL, because I like to compete with good people, against teams that play well together. I bought BF:V, and it wasn't much better, because of the overpowered aircraft and the same goofy infantry movement. I played PoE, and while it is very DC like (because it has desert maps, and because it has modern vehicles, and because it has the same, or slightly updated engine) it has the most potential of the entire series. The aircraft aren't so overpowered, and they added different types of rounds to some of the vehicles. Some people will leave the clan no matter what direction we go. We started as a FA clan, and when we started up DC, people joined the clan and that was all they played. When we dropped DC, people left. Now it will be the same with BF:V, JO, FA, etc... If we have people in the clan that only play one game, and we, as a clan, don't "support" the game, then those people will go find another group to play with.I think we need to focus on just one game (doesn't matter if it's BF2, HL2 mods, JO, whatever) and not do this "new game of the month" stuff, and end up losing people that join the clan only because of that game. Now, back to drowning my sorrows in the last of the twinkies...
