How much money have you spent to play HL2?

Featured Replies

I just realized that, including the HL2 collector's edition, (85 bucks) My bro and I have spent almost half a grand JUST to play Half Life 2! I'll break it down:Radeon 9800 Pro Video Card: $240512 Mb PC 2100(I think) DDR Ram: $100DVD-rom drive: $42Half Life 2 Collector's Edition: $85Grand Total: $467!!!!!This may not seem like much to some, but this is a large amount of money for me and my brother! Any other big spenders for HL2? BeccaP.S. Of course I believe that our money is very well spentfor HL2, I probably would have sacrificed more if needed! If I disappear for a while after Tuesday, you will know why!
i built a new comp... just to play hl2. well that was the main thing on my mind while building it-G
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+= $164Mobo: CK8 Dragon Plus = $125GPU: Nvidia GF 5900xt = $200RAM: 768MB = $140Grand total: $629i originally rebuilt my comp just to keep up with FA. my old comp was a piece of dog poo, in a bag, burning on my porch. lol
Well, I don't know if it was for HL2, but I spent some money and it ended up working out, because to play HL2 with full everything, and still get 100 FPS you need top-of-the-line things.CPU: AMD Athlon64 3200+ (@2.2ghz stock) $218GPU: Nvidia 6800GT 400/1100 $415 <--I hate Radeon.RAM: 1 gig Crucial 3200 $187 maybe?Mobo: MSI K8N Neo $122(I actually built the whole system, but these are the highlighted parts.)Total of all these parts: Nuclear Flaggurnalnesstempter
9800pro was around 260.Silver edition was like 60 bucks.so...about 320...around there
ya,i'm in the process of upgrading too, prolley around the 5-7 hundred $ mark for sure.i think it's such a waste when you think about it,when in a yr another game will come out that'll make your newlyupgraded comp.look old again :? o well such is life for us gaming freaks
about 900 so far. Will be about 1400 if I decide to grab a FX-55 chip tommorow.
Right now I'm racking my brain on getting either a new gun or a new comp.If I get a comp I'll spend about $1000 even but a new gun would only cost me $800-1000.Hmm the possibilities...I am ordering another stick of Corsair DDR400 tomorrow though : )about $80 bucks from newegg i think.

I hate Radeon.

Why do you hate Radeon Sam.Gen.? In my opinion the Radeon 9800PRO (128 MB) is a great video card, considering that if you overclock it it can perform better or as good as some of the high end 256mb cards out there! I played Doom 3 without a hitch, the graphics were astounding for me! I guess it is just by one's preference, no?

When I think ATI I think, Frustration and problems. ATI just isn't as great as it could be. I love Nvidia, and would never chose ATI over Nvidia.

i've have the radeon cards and i just got my first Nvidia card. i say they are about the same, but in the long run you get what u pay for. also the only thing that u might need to upgrade from year to year is the GPU and RAM. most games don't even strain a 3ghz comp. same thing for the athlon 64's and pci exp. software is way behind hardware.
here is my idea for any bugent cruncher/ penny pincherResolution: 800X600Any and all Hi-Res texture/lighting effects- offDraw distance- lowest possibleAA- Offwith those setting you can play it on just about any thing, except for azn and his commador 64 h4xfest box.
Just blew 550$ on an asus board, amd64 3000+ and 512mb ram.
At this point in time I have no clue even when HL2 comes out I won't know if I'll be getting it right away, might wait awhile until I can afford it . . . I have other things I need my money for.
i spent £44 ($89.99) on the gold edition..if you add up the PC i hae been building slowely over the last year, that rises to£1200 ($2000 ish)but the PC wasnt ofr HL2
