November 16, 200421 yr Author P4 2.6 800FSBgfx 5900XT512 DDR400game crashes to desktop or freezes with no errros! It does the same thing with doom3. I swear to god computers don't like me.
November 16, 200421 yr Hm, your pc should manage it.. But the reason for a crash can be various:Do you can start the game normally ? If the crash happens, is the temperature inside very high ? Have you tried to change the settings in the game ?Do you have the newest graphic card drivers ?Hm, i think the pc hates you, because you are a very, very, high skilled player.. Play more FA, i need the skill points (if i manage to kill you)
November 16, 200421 yr Author hehe thanks Arnie. When I turn the graphics all the way up I crash while I'm stil at the start-up screen. When I turn them all the way down I can play for while before it crashes. Why would this be?
November 16, 200421 yr Did you change something in the past? Some new components? For me, its sounds like a corrupt RAM (System or GFX)...You don't have problems with other games or software?
November 16, 200421 yr Author With CS:source I freeze with a memory error, alot of people get this error with source, my RAM checks out ok though.Doom3 crashes to desktop with no error message...I really have no idea what to do.Can someone post a link to another ram checker?
November 16, 200421 yr Author My brother is going to put in a FX5200 later to see if that works.I never had any problems with that card but with my 5900XT diablo2 crashes, doom 3 crashes, and Far Cry messes up.Don't really know though...
November 16, 200421 yr P4 2.6 800FSB gfx 5900XT 512 DDR400 game crashes to desktop or freezes with no errros! It does the same thing with doom3. I swear to god computers don't like me. If you are "overriding refresh rates" make sure you are not using a refresh rate your monitor does not support... Let me know
November 16, 200421 yr Did you try to install the new driver of your MainBoard, your Graphic card, your Sound card ?Did you try to re-install Direct X 9.0b ?Did you go and look on dxdiag if there are some probs ?If you have 2 RAM did you try with one only ?
November 16, 200421 yr Author ummm, I just installed new graphics card drivers and then ran scan disk, I played for a few minutes then crashed again. It is giving me a memory error but like I said my brother said the memory was good. I'd like to check for myself though, how do I check the memory? Is it possible to check the memory of my graphics card? How do I reinstall directx?
November 16, 200421 yr Author Now it won't even start.I get an error message saying its unavailable right now
November 17, 200421 yr if ur using windows xp there are problems with some games and the os. check microsofts website to see if that might be it.
November 17, 200421 yr I have XP and no prob. Btw you must have your OS updated, go to windows update and do all updates. To re-install directX just find an installator on the net and launch it (If I remember there is an uninstall for directX, just search on Google). If all of this don't work then re-install windows. You need to have all your drivers up to date.
November 17, 200421 yr no one knows where I can check my memory for errors? This is what I found: http://www.memtest86.com/ or http://www.memtest.org/ or http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp try one and let the soft test your RAM overnight...
November 17, 200421 yr Author thanks guys, hopefully I'll get this figured out tonight. going to switch graphics card tonight and see if it runs.I noticed that after a fresh reboot I can play for about 5 minutes before a crash. But if I restart the game right after a crash it will crash again almost instantly. Wierd eh?Check back later for more of my problems hehe.btw, I'm close to throwing down about $700 on a computer I just put together on newegg.com
November 17, 200421 yr By a fresh reboot, do you mean a cold start (PC been off for half an hour etc)If you do then something in the system is overheating, could be CPU, RAM, but is most likely the GFX card you are using, could be a faulty or dry solder somewhere on the PCBIF it is overheating which is what i think it is, Try leaving the Side pannel of the case off and playing the game with it off, from what you say on the highest settings its really taxing the card and itll heat up and crash very fast, on lower settings itll heat up more slowely, till it gets to that temperature and freak.
November 17, 200421 yr Author No I just mean restarting.Even on very low settings it still crashes. a game like Diablo 2 shouldn't cause a 5900XT card to overheat. We already check the temp and it isnt overheating <-- the 1 thing we can be happy about. What bothers me the most is it only crashes on game I like to play. For instance, my brother just bought need for speed underground 2 and he plays it with the graphics "juiced" and doesnt have any problems.
