I'm gonna get flamed but I have to agree with the people that think Doom 3 has better graphics. D3's use of bumpmapping and lighting is amazing.

I'm extremely anxious for mods of both of them.

Basicly I think like this guy:

OKay I think Doom3's engine is more impressive than Source..

Why?

well Doom3's engine makes use of the latest Direct X 9 shaders to give some absolutely stunning lighting and visual effects. Okay the models used are relatively low polygon for a modern game, but the detail and the textures, the bump mapping and other rendering effects they used really make the game lok quite stunning on high detail levels

The only things I've seen in Source that looks impressive are the water effects and the faces of the NPC's... Everything else looks very Direct X 8-ish and some of the textures that are used in game are quite low quality in places (I've seen some better quality textures in Medal of Honour: Allied Assault)....

I'm not saying that Source is a bad engine, but I think the years delay in getting this game on the shaves has made what was once quite an advanced graphics engine look a little dated in comparison to the competition.

What you guys think?

ahh it's 'The Ring' girl!!

Hmmmm. Cannot compare as of yet.

Doom 3 was Inside for the most part.

While HL2 did both.

Farcry did both as well.

I say let the modders decide.

The Engine that mods the best is the bet engine.

Sort of like the Beta vs VHS.

Just because Doom3 looks the best wont mean it is the best engine.

Holy crap Im watchin the trailers for F.E.A.R right now. looks AWESOME!

Yeah, FEAR is suppose to have massive environment destruction.

I agree with Mac about the moders choosing the better engine. I'm gonna post some screenshots of some Far cRy mods I like. Until then check out this screen.

For anyone who doesn't know I love Far Cry. I think its untouchable in terms of Environments and draw distances.

you seen anyone of the screenshots for FEAR?

It's going to require a monster machine to run all those bells and whistles!

It's true, Doom3 does have Source on graphics, but really, Source has better physics, terrian rendering, player models, and an awesome facial engine

Good points made by all. I've played farcry and hl2/css. but havent seen doom3. as of now

Hl2/css : physics, model faces, explosions, flashbangs, water

FarCry : terrain, audio, stability

Doom3 : no opinion as of yet

The advantage i see in farcry is its ability to be played on a wide variety of machines. and quite smoothly at that. hl2 / css still seems to be having issues with this. which requires the use of console commands to fix.
