Right now i have 256MB of DDR Corsair memory (PC2700)

and im looking to buy 512MB of DDR Kingston memory (PC3200)

my bro says this wont work cause the PC numbers are different. is this true?

Not really, it just means that your PC3200 sticks will run at the lower speeds of the PC2700 sticks, if I'm not mistaken. I have PC2700 sticks, and I'm planning on getting two sticks of Geil PC3200 pretty soon. :)

well, the 512 stick i was gonna buy was origionally $127, but theyre having an up to 60% sale, so it is only $97.

The 256 is $53 i think

Wait.. is that american?

My dad'll never buy RAM if it's THAT expensive

My rule of thub is...

if your gonna buy ram, make sure that what u have in your comp and what ur gonna buy are the same. Because pc 2700 and pc 3200 have diffrent latency timings. This will cause the ram not to work properly when u go instal it. Also make sure its the same model # and company because diffrent companys have diffrent timings and it could throw things off. This is not like the good ole days where u could guy pc 133 ram and run it at pc 100 or pc 66. Its diffrent now. So if you wanna buy ram buy a dual channel kit(if comp supports it) or buy 2 sticks of the same ram(usually cheaper/ but may not work in comp).

its better to ditch what u have and buy 2 new sticks of memory. Thats IF you cant find the same model and make of memory that u already have.

btw rip here. good place for comp stuff if your interested.

yea, I did this too

had a pc2700 stick and accidentally bought a pc2100 (from Futureshop. They're pretty good I think)

I just went back and asked if I could replace it for a pc2700 stick and they were fine with that

i got my stick of 512 pc2700 for the same price as DH at best buy. gotta love mail in rebates
