How is the cable (as in television channels) supposed to go through the reciever? We've got an older TV and so the way of doing it in the manual via optical cords cannot apply to us. This is the reciever we have:

I have all the speakers set up, as I'm listening to the radio through it right now. I just can't seem to get a picture on the television.

If I understand corrcetly, you want cable tv channel sound from reciver speakers. You say older tv, i assume with just 2 antenna screws using convertor for those to coaxial cable . or you just have cable jack on tv. 1 way would be to use cable splitter to send 1 to reviever for sound and the other to tv. ofcourse if you use cable box this split comes after it. if no cable box you'll have to buy cheap one to sleect channel so you get that audio to reciever and video/audio to tv using above cable split idea.
