January 10, 200520 yr Im continually told, i should use vent, cause its awesome. Well heres why i dont. Everytime I get on, go to the game channel, ppl are talking NON-FREAKING-STOP. I JOIN THE GAME CHANNEL TO PLAY AND USE VOICE COM FOR TACTICS NOT TO HEAR IDLE CONVERSATION IN THE MIDDLE OF A MATCH. Im on a vent channel for CSS right now, ppl are talking non-stop in the middle of a game, VERY distracting. Even worse, the vent volume controls dont work on my comp so I am stuck listening to ppl at a very loud volume, and unable to change CSS's to compensate. Further, HL Voice Comm censors out those ppl talking who are dead. So you see, this is why i use the ingame chat where i can easily mute ppl without alt-tabbing. [/Frustrated Rant]
January 10, 200520 yr Uninstall the vent. Delete the folder. Clean the registry of Ventrilo entries. Then reinstall. It will be a lot better. I had to do it on Bens and Andrews.
January 10, 200520 yr Author vent was good for the match, and much to my chagrin I believe I was guilty of exactly what I was defaming it for, but for regular gaming purposes Im using HL Voice comm plain and simple.
January 10, 200520 yr Well, if you are ever on Vent and I start talking a lot, just tell me to stop talking. I get worked up and forget that sometimes....lots of times. That goes for everyone on Vent (except DH and Jairyn for various reasons). Just tell me to quiet down.

Also, 3 ppl exchanging amusing anecdotes about CS in the middle of a round is very, very distracting for me. Im not going to be a Ventrilo nazi, Ill just use HL voice for non-match play, no biggy.
January 10, 200520 yr I suppose if ur all on the same team its fine to use but one thing i hate is ghosting. I can handle a bit of wallhacking here and there but ghosting just pisses me off the most. It shouldn't be allowed, that's why hl put in their own voice comm system. As far as using vent goes, i can't stand idle chatters or people who just plain abuse it. Nothing worse than trying to filter out the important stuff while listening to bullshit. Then you have the people who hold down the transmit button while listening to some crap they call music. That's when i shut down vent, get on the other team and only go after the vent abuser. I know your gonna say to just mute them, but i can't, once i alt-tab, my system takes 20 minutes to get back to the game (i'm not exagerating either). So unless there is some reason that i have to use it, i normally don't. To many problems to deal with. I'm only interested in playing the game, not listening to people complain about bs shots or chatting just becuase they can. Those are my reasons for hating it.

It's called being "sociable"...Interesting concept...You should try it somtime 8)

Usually (now at least) I talk a lot when there are other people in who talk a lot.
