Posted March 14, 200520 yr When i started playing FA i was at the end of first year studying at the Institute of Physics. Soon three years will pass from that moment and i am nearing the fourthyear of my studies. The time has came for me (and to all my friends really) to make a serious decision. About our roads from this point. I have made mine today. The decision is the subject our our Mastrers in Engineering (i believe that is not MSc, but MEng) work. Mine, if aproved by program commitee of Institute of Physics (and i have 99.(9)% probability that it will be), will read: Intra-band transitions in coupled quantum wells systems used in the construction of cascade lasers This work will be outside my home Institute of Physics in Warsaw Institute of Thechnology. I chosen to go outside to the Institute of Electron Technology (http://www.ite.waw.pl) - Department of Physics and Technology of Low Dimensional Structures - Enviromental Laboratory for Nanostructure Epitaxy. Work will be both theoretical (simulation of wave functions and energy levels in CQW {coupled quantum well}, which means designing a software which can calculate f.e. matrices 200+/200+) and experimantal (design, programming, testing of the experiment and after - interpretation). It is my hope that after the work is done and title of MSc/MEng (whichever i get) is achieved, i will stay and work at that Institute. Probably to further design cascade lasers.
March 14, 200520 yr u want to put that in to laymens terms for those of us that aren't as highly educated as u are.
March 14, 200520 yr Well kywalker good luck with all that.even though i really don't exactly know what you all just said,it sounds like you've made a big decision. And i think it's great to move forward in life.most of us could only be so lucky to know what we want and to try and get it.
March 14, 200520 yr Author are cascade lasers the type you shoot stuff and to make them blow up? They are new type of high-energy, high-efficiency lasers with variable wavelength. They are still in pre-prototype in most cases, becouse there ar problems regarding their design and development. My work will be that much usefull, that it will show the possible energy levels in CQWs. Also it will be the first one of its kind in the world (nobody has of yet saw the energy levels outside of theoretical calculations) - or so my professor said. I will also be using new experimenting method (photoluminescence extitation).Good thing i have more than 1 year to do it.
March 14, 200520 yr yeah i didnt understand any of that high and mighty vocabulary you have there. but good luck i think
March 14, 200520 yr i think i get it kinda, varying wavelengths turn me on anyway, your a genius, good luck, don't become some mad scientist and destroy the whole world
March 14, 200520 yr Author u want to put that in to laymens terms for those of us that aren't as highly educated as u are. I dont think its possible explaining that to people, who dont know how semiconducting lasers (in f.e. their CDs, DVDs, telecomunication systems) work. Thats why i skipped few technical details
March 15, 200520 yr good luck! My friend works at Wright Patterson Airforce Base as a Research Assistant, and apparently everything they do involves lasers, so he was telling me how inefficient (12%-25% was it?) they really are. I hope your work moves to improve that rate! Those quantum wells can be tricky devils ; )
