Posted March 20, 200520 yr HOW WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! My god, thats such utter crap. Value is really pushing their luck bigtime, with an unfinished product release, horrible packaging, a long wait for deathmatch, the only thing they did right was CS:S. And when they finally port somthing decent over, they charge a fee.

And when they finally port somthing decent over, they charge a fee. you sir, are silly. What do you MEAN the only thing they did right was CSS? That's stupid. Hl2 was done perfectly, hl2dm, while not actully sold (meaning you had to pay absoutely NOTHING for that amazing mod) was just the icing on this amazing cake. Imagine though...it's better that you payed for the DOD: S when you paid for one of the packages. Everyone KNEW DOD: S was being made even before the packages were released. If they had just let orders come in when it was close to release, their servers would've been flooded, and steam probably would've been shut down (they...Valve team members...already talked about this on the Steam Forums) so...your claims: "Unfinished product release...horrible packaging...a long wait for deathmatch..." are completely wrong. (and I don't even get what you mean by horrible packaging, but I can probably prove you wrong in that aspect also) Hl2/CSS's release (and the other things that followed) was close to flawless...the only bad thing I can think of that happened were the steam servers being overloaded the day Hl2 was shipped...
March 21, 200520 yr I, for one, didnt think that HL2 was FLAWLESS.....it wasnt perfect....not even close to being as good as the first Half Life......CSS wasnt done perfectly either IMO....but then again it is just a different version of an already corrupted game but I am not complaining about having to pay for DOD:S.....I for one didnt order it but it was only like $10 more, right? Thats a steal.

How Long did we have to wait for HL2DM? Crappy ass plastic wraps for 7 disks? No typed manual (some silly readme.txt) You clearly have not played any of the leaks. DoD was free orginally, why should it be payed now?
March 21, 200520 yr How Long did we have to wait for HL2DM? Crappy ass plastic wraps for 7 disks? No typed manual (some silly readme.txt) You clearly have not played any of the leaks. DoD was free orginally, why should it be payed now? Does it matter how long you had to wait? It's free, and it came some 3 weeks AFTER the release. That's not too long, and it's not like anyone was sitting around waiting for it. And that's solely a retail issue, if you had bought the game off steam like myself, you wouldn't have had all that stuff lying around. And the no manual thing as been addressed so many times. Hl2 is geared towards the hardcore gaming audience, not the college frat house boys that Halo 2 is geared towards. Valve presumes you already know the basics of a FPS (WASD keys to move, left click to shoot, etc.) and then, in game, it tells you everything else you need to know (how to pick up objects, how to use the gravity gun.)DoD was free orignally because it was a mod made by a bunch of guys. Much like Counter-Strike, these guys were hired by Valve, and the rights for DoD were bought by Valve, which gives Valve every right to sell it...I don't see you complaining about having to buy CS or CSS. And what does it really matter if I played the leaks? That was completely unfinished/untested content. People presume if it was in the leak (which was an early alpha stage) that it should've been in the game. Wrong. Valve cut out the numerous stuff you see in the proof-of-concept videos and the leaks because it was either unfun(hmm...is that a word?) or unbalanced.
March 21, 200520 yr Author 3 weeks AFTER? Try a couple of months bro. I was sitting around waiting becasue the single player was so god damn easy and there wasn't ANY challanges or parts that require you to stop and think. I'm not complaing about CS or CS:S becasue neither of them you have to buy. They come with the game. If you played the leak, you'd see how increadbly fast the game was put together, compared to the link, it's quite sad. Even with alll that time spend (delays.)

And I have no idea what you mean by 'how increadbly fast the game was put together." How could you determine that from some leaked source code? The game was in developement ever since Hl1 was released. They built an entire new engine from the ground up, and then made one of the best games of all time...they hardly slapped it together and threw it out the door. oh, and I was wrong about the 3 weeks comment, it was more like 15 days: http://www.phenylshouse.com/ftopict-1536.html note the time that post was made kthxbi

March 21, 200520 yr correction there WERE parts that required one to think unless they were cheap and used a Strategy Guide. the people who got the strategy guides arnt cheap. they spent 25$ on that -G

March 21, 200520 yr acually no they bought the engine. they didnt build it. carry on what are you talking about? The Source engine is a totally new engine created by Valveif you're referring to Hl1, then yes, they did use the Quake engine, but it was heavily modified (16...or was it 32? bit color, more advanced textures, etc.)

I played it on hard. How can I tell it from the leak compared to the real thing? Simple, some things that were in the leak are still in the final product, and loads of other things, I'm just too lasy to lay down a few good examples. There is NO WAY that HL2DM came 15 days after the HL2 release, no way bro. @ Comrade_Jerkov, what part? No part in the game did you have to think, it was all fairly strightforward and layed out in front of you, move box here, do this, ect. Not a very challanging single player, it's not even that great either.

I'm still not getting why you're on on about the leak...ok, some things were left out, for fair enough reasons I presume, and some things were left in because they worked. The leak was a bit of the game that they had already worked on and completed most of (besides the levels). That was basically when they were testing weapons and finishing up levels. And check the steampowered forums, it was 15 days after...don't try to fight was is clearly right in front of you and the entire turrent part in nova prospekt wasn't challenging? Fighting off the hordes of combine as they airdropped into villages? The semi-jumping puzzles near the end? Hl2 was hardly straightfoward. No, it wasn't open ended, but it's not as straightfoward as many games out there. But then again, if you're rating a game on how linear it is, you shouldn't be rating video games.
March 22, 200520 yr ima poke in here. HL2 was extremely linear, compared to HL1 also. but i still love it. but it was linear -G
March 23, 200520 yr You guys realize the DOD team was picked up by Valve right....? That is why you are paying for Day of Defeat. Whenever Valve picked them up they released the DOD 1.0 Retail version of the game. People who never had it or HL1 went and PAID for 1.0 Retail of DOD on the HL1 engine. Now that HL2 is out and the DOD team is under Valve's roof you are going to have to pay for DOD. I bought the silver package, so it was only $10 for DOD, big woop. Lets say the FA team got picked up by Vavle.... well read up and there's your answer.
March 27, 200520 yr How about we argue about it. And it's 10 bucks. I'm not too worried, even if it is a flop. Already purchased mine on steam, and I can't wait. Steam is a godsend (when it works.)
March 27, 200520 yr i got bored with hl2 after they took away my water boat :peace: hahahaha i did too ;[
April 16, 200520 yr Well if you remember CS was free at one time too. Since Valve bought the mod rights, when source was released it was Valve's game and will continue to be Valve's game as long as the source "franchise" continues. If you remember when DOD went retail also, Valve bought those rights, thus everyone now has to pay for the new version, anyone who didnt predict this has no common sense.
