A Sad Thing to See

Featured Replies

While walking through my local Future Shop, looking for a copy of Neverwinter Nights (I eventually found it) I came across the retail version of Day of Defeat. The sad thing is that at the top, just above the words Day of Defeat was this line,"From the people that made Counter-Strike"now...this mainly isn't correct. It is correct Valve published both of them but there was 2 entirly different teams working on both mods. Now, I'm happy to see the little guy's creation become a hit, but this, I believe, is just horrible (that may not be the right word for it)Day of Defeat, in my experiance, is far greater than counter-strikesome of you may just shrug and say whatever, but for me....this is a sad thing to see
I think its just a marketing scheme... so many people liked counter strike, so if someone sees "By the makers of CS" on the cover, they might buy it. But I agree CS sucks and DOD is awesome.
true dat guys, despite a lingering axis bias (somewhat more equal now) and a rather impotent British team, DOD is better than FA sorry to say
DOD is good but does not have the versatility of FA and weapon selection. What IS missing from FA is superior maps.I think they should make 2.8 a total map revamping update. The weapons can wait for 2.8.5.
the new dod is horrible.it's just like counter strike now and it's laggier my fps is half of what it used to be and i see no reason why it should be, like the poly's are all pretty much the same the maps are the same and some maps are uglier (HAVE YOU SEEN CAEN!) i hate dod and the dod team they are a bunch of sell out's you don't start a mod to make money
First of all, DoD is nothing like CS.Second, the DoD makers are not sell-outs, they didn't make the mod to make money, how were they supposed to know it would be so popular that Valve would actually want to release it ?If you were to make a mod and it became super popular and some company offered you lots of money to release it, are you saying you wouldn't sell it ? I don't think anyone in their right mind would pass up that oppurtunity.
With the money from selling it they can make it even better.I agree. But they do need new and better maps as FA does.Their maps are better than FA's so maybe we can have their old ones.Just kidding.I still vote for bigger and better FA maps to keep people interested.

It's because they bumped up the textures...everything in it is like...1000 times more detailed than b4that is why your FPS is halfit's the same here, I don't play DoD much because it's soooo slow on my computer
personally every mod is diffrent. to judge a mod vs another mod is idiocy in true form, and why do i say this? reasons being every mod is always gonna have flaws and such that people hate, but also depends on what type of game the consumer i.e you are into. say for instance someone who likes racing games is gonna knock on a game like dod cause there is no racing. now if you cannot see my point in this ill say this in lamens terms for the hardheads.CS is not DoD, and DoD is not CS simple as that so to compare 2 totally diffrent mods based on 2 diffrent situations = idiotic.
Remember people the HL2 Source engine is open like the origional. Firearms designers will be able to make FA2 look awesome and play great if they choose to do it.The multiplayer version of HL2 has not been discussed much to my knowledge. Coop? Maps? EtcAny takers?

my best guess is they'll have a Deathmatch mode...maps will be city maps/complex maps...and maybe a CTF mode...co-op would be coolbut wouldn't be awesome if TF2 WAS HL2's multiplayer component2 great games in 1!
They won't disregard it.Although I disagree that multiplayer is the heart of Half Life, the singplayer is. The multiplayer was just a side thing for it, it's not even that good anyway. The mods are what made it more for multiplayer.
The mods weren't there when it was released. They came afterwards, when it did come out the heart of the game was the singleplayer. And if it wasn't for such an awesome singeplayer, not as many people would have bought it and there wouldn't be as many mods.Singleplayer MADE Half-Life, not the mods. But these days it is all about the mods.
-WSAENOTSOCK]These days it IS all about the mods everyone has beat the game!

Not EVERYONE.There are some people who buy just CS or DoD... and there are some people who are late-commers into the H-L world, like me... and my brother.

I've been with it since the beginning...my friend got me into it...at first I was scared because I thought a zombie would kill me at night, but I finally got the courage to play itthere were scary times in it, but I think Half Life was the game that got me into the world of gaming and online communitys like TAbut I do believe Half life is all about it's singleplayerppl just made alot of multiplayer mods because those got the most peoplethere were plenty of singleplayer mods too
