April 16, 200521 yr I know that everyone has their own opinions, but Plan of Attack really isn't as bad as some of you make it out to be. PoA is simply an adjustment from what we're used to. It's always like this when something new comes out. I, for one, didn't really get FA when I first tried it because it was so different from what I was used to, aka CS. Today, I still can't figure out how to aim with the default crosshairs, but I learned to appreciate the objective based gameplay style. PoA is no exception. While FA and DoD(WW2 equivalent of FA.... sort of) have more of a Real Time Stratagy element, PoA is more turn based with each round being a turn and each team switches attacking and defending roles each round. I'm not saying that this makes up for it's annoying bugs(Unconnected anyone?) and lack of maps, but I *am* saying not to give up on this Mod. Give it some time and you may or may not find at least a gem in the rough with this mod.
April 17, 200521 yr If it was something I was not used to then I would play it.....as it is it is too much like CS, except not even as good as CS....so I am not gonna bother with it.
April 17, 200521 yr Author I'm not arguing about the core gameplay mechanics, the running and gunning are similar to Counter Strike. However, what sets it apart from CS is that there is true stratagy involved. Someone has to pick an objective for the team and that choice can have different effects. On the one hand, you may get a cash bonus for better guns. On the other you could gain extra experience to better handle your current weapons. You can even bankrupt your enemy by capturing their base, a tactic which is devilishly fun because you get to mow down pistol packing weaklings with your rifles >;D. And the reverse is also true. The defending team has a disadvantage in that they don't know how the other team will act. Therefore you place yourself in your enemy's shoes and guess what they'll do. It offers tactical goodness on a smaller scale than an RTS such as Starcraft for those who can't handle ordering armies all at once(like me ) So that's my 2 cents. If you feel that I'm wrong feel free to make your opinion heard. It's been too long since I've had an intelligent debate :peace:
April 17, 200521 yr I have played Plan of Attack for about 7 hours yesterday and today in total, and at first, yeah, it was a bit weird for me to get used to. But after an hour, the game got challenging and fun. You just have to learn how to aim and run and everything, it's actually a great mod, but you guys just don't want to adjust.

In PoA, the aiming and shooting is diffucult, and shooting while running is almost impossible while tryin to get someone at medium to long range. For the 2nd part of what you said, yes, that is why the mod is so great. There obviously has been alot of thinking put into the design of the gamemode and such. You need to know what's what, and what to do. It doesn't take long to get used to, if it's your turn to Defend, defind all 4 positions, because you don't know which part of the map they'll take over. And if you're attacking, look for the blinking icon at the top right, and attack that spot.

It's a battle of stratagy, which makes this a double edged sword. On the one hand, it's a refreshing diversion from the mindlessnes of CSS, but not everyone grasps it quite yet. It gets annoying when your team is attacking, but your the only one that goes to the objective chosen. Also, people don't seem to notice the warning saying where the other team is attacking, which can be annoying for the only defensive person that responds. For the first full fledged mod for Half Life 2, it's an awsome start. Now... if they could just expand their weapon and map list....

Well ofcourse it's annoying when you're the only one going to the objective, but that's because the game released only a day ago, everybody is still new at the game, but its just some that have learned the map already. but I've been playin for awhile now and i've gotten used to it, and i have had some games where my whole team rushed to the right spot. oh and the map list will grow, it probably took them awhile just to get the first one done, it's pretty big and it had to be though out alot to get the spots all evened out for both teams.
April 17, 200521 yr I still think it is too much like Counter Strike. Different bases to attack = different bomb sites. Bankrupting the enemy? Wheres the fun in a slaughter....if I wanted to mow down stuff that can only kill me if they get lucky then I would play Get the Bunny or something like that.
April 17, 200521 yr Ok so I was really bored today and I decided to give PoA a second chance.....it isnt really THAT bad, its mediocre for a mod, even a beta mod. I found out that I wasnt laggin, I was just getting HORRIBLE fps....I get a constant 10 fps which is a lot worse than I get (got) on CSS. But yah, I may play it a bit more when I am bored, it is alright.
