Well my phillips 21 inch monitor finally give up the ghost. I thought it was the end a few weeks ago, but now I think it is actually down for the count. I was so mad when my wife called to tell me of the "passing" when I was on the way home from work. I was talking to Gator on the phone while driving home, I think he can tell you how pissed I was when some moron cut me off. Lets just say I wasnt very in a "give a break mood".

Anyway I got home and my wife give me the go ahead for a new monitor. So the search started.........

I didnt want to get a dell to replace my phillips 201b (21 inch) but I had a nice credit line there...those guys are like loan sharks...

The short of it is I broke down...DUDE I GOT A DELL! (monitor that is)

I looked at their CRT's best for gaming....I know. They were $399 which I know is a little high but having a credit line with them was the sticking point.

While looking I noticed this picture of a realy nice looking flat pannel WIDE screen. I thought WOW I bet that thing is HELLA high! I clicked just because I want to see what I can get when I win the lottery..right. I noticed the thing is one sale from its normal $749 and free shipping. I move on down and see the sale price of $561.75.

[i am thinking to myself] think budget...self control...no I cant...but its only a little more.....No..NO..NO....get a grip....Ah screw it! BUY!!!!!!!!!!

So now I have just clicked buy, well after reading a few reviews. Most of the ones I read were very good and people like it for gaming. Granted some people and reviews didnt like it for gaming but for the most part I found more people who liked it over those who did not like it very much. It uses some screwy resolutions but hey they got a cool forum to help people out that have these new wide screens. I will let you guys know what it is like when I get it. I was very worried but I feel better after doing some reading and for only 150 or more than the CRT and with flat wide screen....maybe it is worth it.

It has some other cool features to like USB port on the monitor.

My soon to be new monitor

You may not like a wide aspect monitor for gaming...I have a 19 inch LCD, I really like it for gaming, and surfing. I almost bought a wide aspect, until I tested one with games; you either have to play with the black strips on both sides of your screen, or with the game "stretched" out of proportion. If neither one of these things bother you, you'll be fine.

I was worried about that until I started reading on a forum about how to change the ratio and stuff. When you do that they say it doesnt stretch to fit nor do you have the stripes. Believe me that was a major concern I had when researching.

State you will love it. I have an Apple 20 widescreen cinema.

http://www.apple.com/displays/

It works great for gaming. No streaching or black bars. (And no I don't have a Mac. It works on a PC.)

:D

Thanks DT...I hope so...after looking at that web page it makes me want the 24 inch that Dell has... I may get that next when I get a little more cash and just give that 20 to marshal.

Some games support widescreen too, like CS:S. But with CS:S in widescreen you will lose some FPS.

Either way, it makes widescreen movies better. (bigger because of how the aspect fits)

words cannot describe how much I hate you.... :D I cant wait till I can throw away all my money on sweet computing gizmos. I was told 2nd Lt.'s make 40,000 a year starting, and since I will be single...... PC heaven

I was going to buy a dual 17" ultrasharp setup from dell for about 600, but then I realized I could get a whole new socket 939/PCI E system for that price, so thats what I did.

Anyway I got home and my wife give me the go ahead for a new monitor. So the search started.........

Yes Defcon being single does have its advantages. :D

:o

Thanks DT...I hope so...after looking at that web page it makes me want the 24 inch that Dell has... I may get that next when I get a little more cash and just give that 20 to Klink.

Thanks, I'll take it.
my college uses 24inch TFT monitors, they are sweet unless the sun shines on them...then out come the sun glasses.

...you misspelled my name. it's one K and one F. No M's, No R's.
Thanks DT...I hope so...after looking at that web page it makes me want the 24 inch that Dell has... I may get that next when I get a little more cash and just set that 20 on fire and throw it burning out a window and have it fall onto a car covered in gas with nukes inside.

SWEET IDEA!
