June 16, 200520 yr I think they put the CSS server back up, maybe to get it to have good performance they had to reduce the BF2 server size.
June 16, 200520 yr Author oh well, at least this will reduce the number of instances of one guy going around uncapping points.
June 16, 200520 yr The reason they reduced the server size was because the BF2 Demo server was eating up bandwidth like a pre-schooler eats glue. It was using more than all of the other game servers running on the main server box combined. Gator could probably give a better explanation.
June 16, 200520 yr We have ample bandwidth. Even with 64 players playing. Our net traffic could not have been that great. Right now on our box we have 32 BF2, 24 CS:S, and 24 FA. That is 80 players exchanging info. When the BF2 server was running we had a 24 player FA server going along with the 64 BF2 too. That is 78. I know you cannot compare apples and oranges but....... Untill I hear from Gator. I don't believe it was bandwidth. I have main server access and the bandwidth was/is barely touched.
June 16, 200520 yr Negative, it wasn't too much for the server, but, it was using ALOT of bandwidth, and would put us over our alotted bandwidth for the server for a month.. TFD
June 16, 200520 yr It was using about 60-65 GB a day. This figure was high because it was a free demo and there were a lot of users hitting the server 24 hours around the clock. These numbers would be lower I belive when the actual release comes out. 60GB a day x 31 days = 1860 a month Our allotment = 1200 a month (660GBs over) Bandwidth costs = $50 per 100Gb over $50 - 100GB @ 600GBs over would cost us an additional $300 a month, bring the total server cost to $449.00 a month. I hope this explains our situation. We are presently working on an alternative plan at this moment. We will keep you informed.
June 16, 200520 yr yeah when i was playing FA, some of the [s^D] guys( ) asked me if we were running BF2 and FA in the same box to which i replied "i think so" and having no idea what they meant by box, i assumed it meant that they were being run on the same server like thingy. and this was about server lag and when i told them yes they said "bingo" and i just wondered. this clears it up.
June 17, 200520 yr oops Senior Council Linkage. There is something big about to happen. Something good and big.

June 17, 200520 yr Hey Mac or Gator, who do you rent your box from, I'm sooooo gonna put up a BF2 server or 2. This game is so awesome, I finally have a NEW game to play that I enjoy, like the good ole days of FA...
June 17, 200520 yr Hey Mac or Gator, who do you rent your box from, I'm sooooo gonna put up a BF2 server or 2. This game is so awesome, I finally have a NEW game to play that I enjoy, like the good ole days of FA... Good luck. 64-player server cosumes about 65-70 GB a day, and the ISPs usually give you about 1200-1500 GB a month. Also, have lots of cash $$$$ ready.
June 18, 200520 yr You guys might want to take a look at www.ajservers.com Thats where we're trying to get our PoA server from, and their servers are extremely cheap. They're currently considering supporting BF2. a 64 player slot from them would cost $75 (so their site says)... if your server's popular (which it is), they might charge you $2 per slot though... which is thier standard price for slots... ~Pointe~ EDIT: That would just mean it would be $128 instead of the $440 you guys were speaking about before.
