July 11, 200520 yr This is freaking funny in a way. My brother has been on a downloading binge sincfe friday, and I've been letting him know how I feel about that the whole time. So, my parents, smart ones they are, said that our connection is not bogged down by my brother's downloading binge. They claim that it's the server that our connection goes to. That may have something to do with the tiny fluctuations of maybe 1-5 ms in the connection speed, it doesn't account for the 200-900 ms difference in speed from no downloading to brother downloading his wrestling dvds. Apparently, they aren't aware of a second and MUCH tighter bottle neck in the system called a ROUTER.
July 11, 200520 yr Just block whatever site he's getting them from (on his computer). Disallow the ports that his downloading program needs to run. If he's into wrestling, chances are that he doesn't understand half the stuff you would be doing.
July 11, 200520 yr If you are formatting the C drive, you need to boot from a floppy disk and use DOS to format the C drive. Start the computer using a startup floppy disk (see "How to Create a Startup Floppy Disk"). 2. Turn on the computer. The screen should show the A:\ prompt. 3. Type CD C: to switch to the C drive. 4. Type "FORMAT C: \S \V". This command formats the hard disk, transfers the appropriate system files to make it a startup disk, and prompts you for a new name. The "\V" command is optional. 5. Enter the new disk name. 6. Eject the floppy disk and restart the computer. The hard disk is ready to receive files. tell him not to screw with YOUR internet connection again if he tells on you say you didnt do it and than kick his ass
July 11, 200520 yr yep do it and if he starts again just do it again say hes downloading viruses see how long you can do it before he figures it out
July 11, 200520 yr sock, i know some honor student wrestlers. killers way is a good way but since you obviously know about this stuff, you probaly know the PW to the router config. go in there and block his IP or mac address he wont have a clue, router lights will be on, it'll say hes connected to the network, etc.

July 11, 200520 yr but HE would have the uninstaller. the fix. and if it jumped to your parents comp it would be great cause then they would stop him -G
July 11, 200520 yr Uninstall whatever anti-virus you have and say "look! he's "trying" to get us virus's!

July 11, 200520 yr Author Ok then, smarty pants Care to enlighten me as to how downloading doesn't effect the 3 computer network we have at our house? And specifically our 3 computer network under our router? I'm well aware that server load can bog everyone connected to one, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about our specific network of 3 computers under our router. Our connection must first go through OUR network before it gets to the internet. Downloading bogs down OUR network and therefore our connection to the ISP server without affecting the rest of the users on that server. You are right though. If there are server problems at the ISP, then everything slows down, period. Also server load bogs it down somewhat. Those you can't do anything about. But does that explain how my ping goes from 500 to 50 when I pause a download or stop an upload on my brothers computer during peak internet use hours? If it does, then I'm sorry, but I'm missing something. I seriously doubt 20,000 people stopped using the internet that very same instant/A major server problem was fixed that very instant. Oh, before I forget. I don't have to worry about putting a virus on his computer G. We've had to wipe his harddrive 3 times the past 2 years due to the massive infection on there.
