Buying Paintball Gun or Advice

Featured Replies

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone here is selling a paintball gun (Tippmann 98) or has some good advice for a **** like me before I purchase one.

I'm looking to spend 150 dollars or less.

First off, paintball is an expensive sport. If you do not have money rolling in, I wouldn't advise you to buy. (Not nessecarily a lot of money, just a part time job kind of money).

Piranaha, Spydir, Tippmans are all great starter markers. Go down to your local paintball shop, and ask around with the sales people. Most are nice and may recommend you a starter kit even. These are usually quite good.

If you're looking used, don't forget:

1)Mask

2)Hopper

3)CO2

don't listen to socky, he's canadian.... paintball is awesome... if you were willing to put a little more money in it i would say get an automag... they are excellent guns. but for that range i would say get the tippman 98... go to walmart. they have a starter kit wih the tippman in it. try to drop co2, get no2

I've played paintball for a while now. Used to play all the time. I used to have a Tippmann Pro Carbine (because I HATE the fact that EVERYONE has a 98, and I didnt want to be just like everyone else). Great gun IMO if you are looking to be a little different, but it is not as easy to find upgrades for (98 is VERY upgradeable.)

And paintball doesnt HAVE to be so expensive. All you have to remember is this: Dont randomly shoot at stuff if you dont think you have a good chance to hit it. If you only shoot when you are pretty sure you can hit, then you dont waste paintballs and CO2.

OK, next thing. CO2 vs. nitrogen. I personally have never owned a nitro tank. 14 oz CO2 is all that I have ever used (except for small 12 grams). Nitrogen tanks cost a lot more to buy initially, but dont need to be filled as often as CO2 (i dont know how less often, Finner, you may want to compare these two). And if you DO decide on nitrogen, make sure that there is someplace near you where you can get it filled. CO2 is easier to come by.

dont forget to buy O-rings.

Plan on buying an upgraded barrell soon. Stock barrells for most guns (dont know about high end guns, but for $150 or less guns) are OK but leave a lot of room for improvement. and I used to ask about what barrell to get without spending a fortune. The number one answer I got was this: J&J Ceramic barrell.

ummm....thats pretty much it. Just try to stay away from anything by Brass Eagle...because unless paintball has changed dramatically in a year, they are bad. Shoddy products.

Thats all I got for now.

98 Custom is the most upgradable gun in paintball.

I like paintball because of how man people play it at once. I just rent a gun, because I only play like 1 or 2 times a year.

A cheaper alternative is Airsoft. I have an airsoft gun, $50. Sam, I and some other people play that. It is MUCH MUCH more cheaper than paintball and doesn't hurt as much. You can buy nice guns for $300, but the the cheap auto $50 guns work fine. They aren't sight accurate, but they consistanly fire in the same direction/manner.

this is a really cool airsoft gun site. its located in Asia so shipping is expensive but they have some awesome looking guns and really kickin wallpapers.

Mr

I use a J&J Performance barrel on mine, two piece brass insert, 14" long. i use to use co2 then i moved to N2. chances are you won't find a place near you that can fill past 3000PSI so get a high CI tank with about 3000PSI. I get about 1000 with a 3000PSI fill... 1200+ with a 4500 fill. if you do get nitrogen, and the tippman. make sure you get an adjustable or low pressure system... a high pressure regulator will blow your bolt apart... problem with plastic guns. if you use HPA or red with am HPB or blue system you risk permanently damaging your gun. i used my friend tippmann with my N2 tank, adjusted it to a lower flow and it was fine. but i would def say get rid of that stock barrel, it sucks. i started playing 9 years ago. the first time i played i used a tippmann procarbine, it was awesome... i like and trust the 98 better because of it's size and availability of upgrades.

I personally just like the feel of the procarbine better because it doesnt have a handle, it has the horizontal grip. I like that.

Oh, and I wouldnt recommend getting a shoulder stock, unless you really just want it. I got one thinking it would help me keep the gun more stable, but you can just putt on a butt plate for your gas tank and it works just as well for less money.

Get a Tippman A-5 but change the stock barrel.....your set for life my friend  (side note you can get a reactive trigger if your one of those people who want to upgrade to an automatic) then your set and you can keep it foreva!
wheat, you do realize that he said $150, right? A-5 is well over 200. Plus it is a waste because for that money you can get a 98 and just upgrade it a lot to make it a lot better than an A-5. But a-5s do look cool.
Cyclone feed system Sneaky you cant go reactive with the 98s Hopper= waste of cash if you get A-5 you can get the reactive trigger (you CAN for the 98 but you got to get a HALO or somthing) then get the reactive and you wont ever have to upgrade or anything again (unless they get like somthing just WOW HOLY FRACK in the next few years of paintbal) and change the stock barrel
I know about the cyclone feed and that crap, but you can get a electro hopper for anywhere between $30-$100+, and so if you only get $30 more dollars for the hopper then that is still only $150. The cyclone feed is by no means worth however much more you have to pay for an A-5.

Don't shoot at random stuff? Shoot when your team needs it. IE. Cover fire, supressing fire. We usually split up into 2 teams, and we'd be yelling commands and covering fire ALL THE TIME. It's a tremendous rush, to snipe it out with someone for 10 minutes, then to get a teammate to run up beside you and say "Where do you need cover fire?". You then proceed to show him, he gives you a count, and at 1 you start running for the hills, and you get a great oppurtunity to shoot him

Had to say that.

M98C owns so hard. They're impossible to break, and if you do break it, they have amazing personnel that will do everything in their power to fix it, and make it better than you had it before.

well a kid at my school is offering to sell me his

Tippmann 98 custom

14" smart parts teardrop barrel

Mask

Hopper

Expired CO2 tank lol

for ninety bucks

He's a professional paintball player who gets free smart parts guns and gear LOL

Is this a good deal?

Oh yeah killer we'll have to play sometime lol

don't get the co2 tank not worth recerting it and shops wont fill tanks that are not up to date... get a 20 oz they are like $20

Oh wow, that is an excellent deal. Make sure the gun fires well and ask him if he has had any problems with it. If it shoots fine and he hasnt had any problems, then take the deal quick. Teardrop barrells are good.

Oh and I didnt mean dont give covering fire. I just meant dont waste paint on something that you cant hit. Covering fire isnt wasting it.
