Digital Cameras

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

Looking to get a digital camera this fall. I don't know crap about them except for brands. Even then I don't know what brand is good and which is bad. So for anyone that has or has any knowledge of them please fill me in. My price range is $200 give or take a little. Just wondering what would be a good deal.

For a $200 price range, you're looking to get a "No Frills" digital camera. If you don't know what that means, it means that you're gonna get a really cheap digital camera. I hope you don't want a really cheap digital camera, do you? :)

Well by g/f's family have one that cant be to much over 200 if that. I think there works great, but i've never seen a really good one. Here are the ones I was looking at.

First one is a kodak, olympus, then sony.

Once again I would like more information on what to look for in them. More over what seperates the good from the bad.

You have to remember Optical zoom is what you want not digital. After only a little dig zoom it lowers quality a lot. I have an Olympus C740 ( new model is C770) with 10X Optical zoom and it's great. My camera, if you can find one now, shouldn't be too expensive. Look online. Mine is only 3. Megapixel but makes up for it with the 10X zoom.

Another thing, is this camera just for fun or the odd picture on a trip? Then the cameras you have listed should be fine. I warn you though you will be hooked and wish you had a better camera. Spend a little more now and you will be grateful.

I am just looking for a regular camera basically.

I can't find any camera that really has much over 3x optical zoom. Is this good or bad? Or am I looking at this wrong?

I have an older Canon S400 4 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom, and it works fine for me. It was $500 new 2 years ago, but I think they are going for about $200-250 used now. I like it because it's small enough to fit in a pocket, so I don't look like a tourist :)

EDIT: Just saw one going for $185 on ebay. Didn't even check other listings, that was the first one I stumbled across.

I like the Dimage Z3 (what I have..) It used to be around 400 but is down to the 200-250 range now. It is a 4.2 with 12x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom.

This one has a image stabalizer where the older Z1 and Z2 models did not. You may not need that unless you are going to shoot low light/long range stuff. I shot some pictures from 1/2 mile up in a chopper and they look pretty good. It is not as good as the stuff we have at work but for the price it is pretty close.

Don't get the Kodak ones. From what we've had, they always run out of batteries after about 20 pictures. It's disgusting.

NIKON D70 DIGITAL SLR!

oh wait that one is too pricy :\

as long as it comes with a Leica lens it should be ok

My family has a HP that is 5.1MP. It was in the top 3 in Consumer Reports and Popular Science rated it as #1 for 2004. I believe it was $285 when my Dad bought it a year ago.
