O.K. if everyone played FA outta the box ( meaning no scripts or changing of any rates, crossharis, etc.) would some of these players be as good as they are?

I said last night in game that wouldn't this game be more equal for everyone if they all played like that and someone said " you know nothing about netcode". What does that mean?

I realize everyone has a different connection and system but if all was left default would we all be ranked like we are now. Assuming I am a smidge above average would I still be there. Would Frost, or Goss or Deo still be near top in skill assuming we all played the same amount roughly?

Last night some guy was asking another player " do you have my config"?

I started wondering because he said " I can't reg with this config and I can't hit anything". Meanwhile, here I am with pretty much default config and only custom Xhairs and I do o.k. I mean, I am not owning everyone constantly but I have my moments. Do I need this config to compete or can one just play fairly ( by fairly I mean if a new player installed the game and didn't change anything ) and win or own people?

I know this doesn't matter much anymore because, I, like most of you will be on to BF 2 and FA will die and that will be that but I would just like to know. It's too bad FA is such a messed up community because it is such a good game. I brought up a few of these questions and everyone got all hostile and immature. LOL. GG.

I really doubt the people that you have mentioned would lose too much skill, but other might, but then they would get used it it after awhile and just tweak their stragety, aim, and stuff.

well it depends, if you have a poor computer, then you adjust some things... what your getting at is what CAL has implimented for css, called CSP which blocks "illegal" cvars. these include changeing your interpolate or interp, which affects models and how they line up with hitboxes, weather changes such as disabling rain, ect ect. on our server(css) we have a rate range locked, so no one has a rate of below a few thousand. if you did, your choke would skyrocket, and the player would bounce all over the screen. im not certain on the more technical stuff, but my guess is that changing things up would make your game change, i dunno how in FA but cs and css there was some stuff to change your gfx to make your screen brighter and optimization configs

Klink: If you're closer or further from the server, have more bandwidth than the next guy, you will have an advantage over the next guy, rates are the way we compensate with this.

I'm positive people like goss and PoP guys aren't as good as they are with default stuff. I see it in CS 1.6 and CSS too. I once knew a guy from an old CS 1.6 clan that came from CAL-I. He had a massive long list of commands in his autoexec (stuff like when you crouch your sensitivity goes down). Some of his models (awp, etc.) were see through (though he didn't have hacks) and he had replaced some textures on popular maps like dust and such.

Of course, whenever I play a new HL mod, I always make sure brightness and gamma are set to full, I have my switch to last button set to F, my talk button to Q, my WADS set up, and my decals at max (for pre-source games)

hmmmmm ... reminds me of when some of us played with "cl_rate", "rate", etc settings in cfg files, to attempt reducing server lag issues. It resulted in some people getting away with high settings that if their connection handled the higher speed setting, had them "warping", appearing to skip movement frames to opponets, making them hard to kill and visa versa. Then Steam came out with update that limited how high those settings could be set.

the reason why you always hear people talking about this sort of stuff in game is because the bullets tend to register like crap in firearms more often than not. it seems to take some extra care to get the client synced perfectly in firearms. rates can compensate a bit for this but they can't make you aim better, you still have to do that for yourself.

no config here. all i ever do in HL2 games is turn interpolate to 0, and i either turn the rain off on aztec (CS:S) or i cant even play that map at all (crappy mobile nvidia card). i'd love to see valve just turn off all the configs for a week, and see how different each game is played.

IMHO the answer is complicated:

 

1. I agree with Frost (if I understand him correctly...)- better connection= better frag. On euro servers I was top 2 ALWAYS. I got g36e headshots registered every time. I owned with knife only or knife+mp5k.

 

2. To the certain extent, I agree with Ripper- some guys are just good. I don't know if it's Sgoss or someone else (hop, andross, yaoi etc.). It's like if you and your friend are going to the army- you start at a shooting range and you got 30 out of 50, he's got 45/50 then you go to an obstacle course and you beat every one in the group. I think it's just like that. One just aims perfectly, one doesn't.

 

3. Sgossard- he deserves separate treatment . To me he was one of the biggest mysteries of this game. AFAIK he was FA programmer, CD developer and FAL admin. Give me that powers and I would be the best of the best. Personally I would give myself an ability to nuke a map once per round if I felt annoyed and permaban everyone who would complain about it . On the second thought, a perfectly aimed cruise missile would do a job.

(side note: it's not I don't like him, I just don't understand his me-against-the-whole-world attitude. I think the so-called community split to Sgoss-followers- usually it means worshipers and Sgoss- haters. I stay outside of this black-and-white world).

 

4. When I started to play FA (2.6) I got a 0.6 k/d ratio. I didn't know any maps and any weapons. I used default settings (except keyboard config).

I ended my career with 1.85 k/d ratio mainly because I changed player models, crosshairs and learn a bit of how to play (my aim improved, too). I didn't mess with alias (simple jump+crouch didn't work), rates etc. All stats were taken from TAC server. On euro's it would probably be better.

 

5. I think America's Army is much more a fair game. The crosshairs are ok from the start so you don't need to change it. I know nothing about the ability to create alias, changing rates etc. As far as I noticed everyone run the same speed and didn't have the superman powers like loooong jump, didn't have the abilities like shooting from the ladders at certain postion etc.

I use default EVERYTHING and I find that I can hang around with some of those guys, but not the really really good ones. I tried using custom xhairs once and I sucked :x

so you tell me...that you use default crosshairs!? YOU MORON! use straw's. youll need something like WinAce to open the .rar file though. hope you enjoy them...if they werent the ones you used before.

to me, if you use everything default, its fair. ( unless you want to use different crosshairs thats alright )

 

i wish Leagues would make it mandatory for everything defualt except for cross hairs to make it fair.

 

i use all default, including default cross hairs, and i still do alright i suppose against the top players.

Thanks for all your inputs. What SM said is what I was getting at. If all used same rates, configs, etc. it would at least give a common starting point. Make everything so it can't be altered unless cheating is involved then maybe more people would play. I know when I first started and kept getting mowed down before I knew what hit me I was ready to give up.

umm...you dont have to change game options to make your screen brighter. You go to your video card properties and turn up the gamma....it helps a LOT. I use it on DoD cause one of the admins recommended it. I finally figured out how people saw me in dark pitch black corners.....

i've been saying it for a long time and i refuse to beleive anything different.

 

people ARE cheating in f-a,they always HAVE,they always WILL.

 

not i'm not saying who's doing it (or who i think is) as not to start some flame in our forums about a game that less then 100 peeps world wide care about.

 

but people have found ways to give them selfs the upper edge above all us defualt players,and it's not all aim.in fact the ones who say it is are the ones who most likey know exactly what i'm talking about. imo f-a is like the the tail end of a big party and now the only ones left are the people who are too drunk to realize the partys over ,beers gone,and everyone else has already gone home.(and i suppose the ones that got there too late and are waiting to drive the drunks home )

That's why I bring this post up every once in a while hoping some leetboy will crack and spill the beans about all the hacks.

first off to the others who mentioned my name please dont compare me to people like PoP, deo, frost, and andross. these guys never had half the skill and its really insulting to me and other all time greats of FA to be listed with these clowns. deo i dont know personally so i will apologize to him for this since i do not know him other than his FA skill. i know this sounds conceited but it really is insulting to see those people mentioned next to me.

 

bounty hunter i was owning in FA long before i ever became a coder, cd team member or FAL admin. in 2.5, where i really became known, i never changed a thing in my config at all.

 

the only thing since then that i have changed in my config was my rate settings. i do this to get the best network performance i can with FA. does it help with registration? yes but not even close to the degree that some here think. bottom line its like tek said, aim is aim. i have always been a solid gamer in other games. its just i decided to devote myself to FA for these last 6 years. one thing you said is right bounty hunter, i am an exception. if not for my level of skill and how long i have been at this level its the time i have devoted to this game through practice, leagues, and matches.

 

as for the love goss hate goss sides of the FA community those who know me and have played with me can tell you what kind of person i am. i am a very simple person in regards to people in FA. approach me as a man and with rational conversation and you get the same in return. approach as a stupid kid with some agenda and you get treated as such.

Hey, Goss, one thing I can say about you is you approach head on and just out aim the guy ( like me). I like that because you are not sneaky hiding in corners etc. except for manual clays and you are supposed to be sneaky with those. The guys that just run around and spray famas and use a whole clip to kill are not as good obviously. You usually kill me in less than 4 or 5 bullets and that's cool with me except for the getting killed part. LOL.

 

As for your point about approaching you in a good fashion that is cool too. Some players like MKY, for example, get accused lots of hacking and never say a word. That is respectful also. Others, well they go on and on about how they own you etc. That is why they get the abuse more because it seems like they have something to hide. When JJ, or Goss or MKY or some others kill me I don't get all wound up and wonder why because I think they are skilled not hacking. Some others that I won't mention just seem too fishy. I know you few guys have played forever and earned the skill not downloaded it. LOL.

well ty for the kind words. you are right about my style. i attack everything head on. i never hide or try to catch people not looking. i am from the old school of FA rushers who believe in just mowing people down. i believe in the theory that my aim is better than yours. if i aim correctly i will beat you everytime despite whatever movement you try and use. guys who use movement alot can never aim beyond a foot. they spray the famas and other guns so it takes a full clip to kill people. i always try and kill people with the least amount of bullets possible. its why i burst fire the famas on full auto so much. you can get multiple kills per clip. in 2.5 my record was 15 kills on a single famas clip and it was not single shot. the claymores are sneaky a bit i guess but i never use them in a defensive position. i always use them offensively and on the enemies side. i matches i mainly use them to block routes. force teams to go to certain sides where my guys are waiting for them.

 

mky is a very good example of just shutting up and playing the game. i try to go by the same belief but sometimes i am forced to open my mouth and put people in there place. i think thats why i have a bad rep with some. i dont take **** from anyone and I will tell you exactly how i feel. while this is not necessarily the best practice its just who i am. i dont hide, cheat or steal. if the sky is yello i will tell you its yellow.

In your opinion- as a FA player, not admin- whether 'united' or FAL- did Andross cheated (I mean ESP, wallhax, aimbot, not his famous special config)? We may call it 'unoficial' opinion if you wish

I didn't change my rate setting. I didn't know how (or what values it should be). The thing I've never really understand was why people didn't want to share their knowledge (not full knowledge, no). Did they earn money playing? No. Would they lose the respect (if they were worth it...)? No. Why no one said: download this crosshairs, they're great. Change this settings, it could improve your gameplay etc. etc. I asked many question. No one even bothered to give me an answer like: kiss my ***.

Aim is aim- I agree, as I said- I improved from .6 to 1.85 (pub).

I didn't participate in matches (it's difficult if you're not a member of a clan). I didn't meet anyone who would tell me how to play/ practice or what to do. Everything I learned, I learned hard way. I'm not a programmer who could see this game as the series of 0's and 1's and tell you where you could 'stretch' a game engine, a game itself, hardware or software. I don't even know if it's possible and how far you can stretch and what kind of stretching would suit me best.

To me most part of the world is grey. Most part of the on-line world is grey. I like lots of people I've met on-line, but I don't like a 'world' we're meeting in.
