September 5, 200520 yr Hey guys. My 82-year-old Grandma (her name is Opal) is going in for major surgery on Wednesday Sept. 7th. She has a cyst attached to her intestine the size of her fist that needs to be removed (very tricky stuff) and she needs her gallbladder removed as well. She doesn't do well with surgeries. Her last surgery was a knee replacement last year and she ended up with a collapsed lung and heart trouble after surgery. So since there's so many of you nice people on this website, I thought I'd ask you to pray for my grandma. I told her I was going to post this thread on here and she asked me, "Would they really pray for me?" and she got all teary-eyed. She's a real sweet lady and she's pretty scared right now. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

September 6, 200520 yr May the force, or whatever she needs to get through this intact, be with her at all times.
September 6, 200520 yr Hey guys. My 82-year-old Grandma (her name is Opal) is going in for major surgery on Wednesday Sept. 7th. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers! The lung and heart probs after that last surgery were most likely caused by blood clots, which are not very uncommon following surgery. I think most doctors usually recommend no asperin, juices, or much water, day or so before surgery, so the blood is not thinned by those, causing excessive bleeding during surgery. I think they prescribe thinners right after surgery. Ofcourse, the doctor who knows the patient's history and health, is the best one to decide what is best. Recent medical newsletters have been recommending it may be less risky to be sure blood will not clot from surgery. If no other blood thinning pressure reducing meds in use, an aspirin a day and proper fluid intake is what I would do before surgery. Clots can kill. Messy surgery not near as much. 82 yrs, nice. She must have been doing something right for long time. Could you get those tips from her for me ? Thoughts and prayers for her.
September 8, 200520 yr Author Well, the surgery went well. It went faster than they expected and they removed the cyst and her gallbladder without any complications. She's now in recovery and is doing well so far. Thanks guys for your thoughts and prayers! Keep them coming, she's still got a long road of recovery ahead!
September 16, 200520 yr Author Grandma's out of the hospital! The doctors gave her the OK to go home. My aunt is a Registered Nurse and she lives with my grandparents, so she'll be able to look after Grandma during her recovery at home. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers! I know they helped! My Grandma also wanted to thank you guys so......on behalf of Grandma, "Thank-you!"
September 16, 200520 yr lol that's great news. sort of weird how you're showing your grandmother posts from the intarweb, though
September 17, 200520 yr Your Grandmother Opal is in my thoughts! I hope she gets though the surgery without a hitch! Becca
September 18, 200520 yr Author Why is that strange ripper? I told Grandma that I would get as many people as I could thinking about her and praying for her during her surgery. As an 82-year-old who isn't involved in computers or the internet world, she thought that was an amazing thing. And when people wrote and sent her their best wishes, I knew she would want to hear them. She was very touched that there were people out there she didn't know who were thinking of her and praying for her. And after the surgery, she wanted to make sure I thanked all of you for her. So thanks guys!
