June 21, 200322 yr Ok, some of you may know I have a passion/addiction of creating long, chapter book-like stories. Recently, I've had a realy condrum.I have three stories I really like, and I need your help to decide which one I should go with.In door numer one, I have a storie I've been working on for a while. I'm someway through Chapter 2 and the story is just blooming. It's a "sci-fi thinker" (at least I hope it turns out that way) with the lead character having a lot of story changing decisions to make...here's the intro: Campaign Free HostileBack in 2032, the human's greatest fleet, The 7th Forward Operations Fleet, was sent to stop an invasion by the alien race, The Craftei (Cr-ift-eye), against Tandrus5. This started the largest space battle ever in human history. The result of the battle was both fleets 98% destroyed. One human ship, the U.E.C Archer, had its engines destroyed. When the engines exploded, the ship shut down all back compartments and sealed the airtight doors. So now, the crew of the U.E.C Archer is left in a dead starship, floating away from Earth's solar system. Fast-forward 35 years. The U.E.C Archer has been floating away the whole time and just recently, the main computer has unlocked the lower decks of the ship. When crewmembers went to examine the lower decks they discovered ship bays A through Y and within these ship bays lay fighter craft and Orbital Repair Vehicles (ORVs). Sadly, there were not enough ships to transport the entire crew off to the nearest planet. So Captain Jack Drenton, the captain of the U.E.C Archer, decided to use the ORVs to repair the engines. It took four months but after the work was done, the reward was a good one. The engines roared to life and all at once the entire crew of the U.E.C Archer cheered to their heart's content. Now, finally, they could return home, return to Earth. The Nav Comp. came online only to show them their worst fears. They were directly behind Craftei Hostile Territory. The current galactic rule between the U.E.C and Craftei is that each side has a hostile territory where the other specie cannot enter. If this rule is broken, then it could result in all out war. Going around the territory would take at least 50 years. So, Captain Raynor, now a 38-year ship veteran, had to make the toughest decision of his life. "Full Speed ahead, coordinates 30, 45, 76, Craftei territory." And so they entered Craftei Hostile Territory, and suddenly, their Nav Comp. went out, leaving them blind in space. The second story I have yet to type up...but I have most of chapter 1 done.I'll explain a bit here: The War of FewThe story is set in a fantasy contienant I made for an english short story project. The story revolves around a character name Daek who is a half-giant. He leaves his village one day to gather some ore from the nearby mountains. He returns to discover his village in burning and in ruins, with all his loved ones dead. He discovers tracks left behind by the raiding party, and sets out to find the party, only to discover his worst nightmare. Along the way he is joined up by a magic dwarve, a powerful half-dragon, and a cleric who is afraid of the dark. The name of the story, The War of Few, explains some things. What Daek discovers could or could not light up a war. the "few" means the small party, made up of 4 irregulairs. I see this story being a great enjoyment for me to write, trying to find ways for each of their specialities to come into play.and the final story is one I recently thought up. I've just finished up tieing the plot together and just begain writing a bit today but I didn't get far. I'll explain: Countdown to EndgameThis is set in the near future, about 60 years or so. A drilling project on the Moon involving small nuclear explosions goes horribly wrong causing the Moon to break up and send giant chunks of it towards Earth. The giant Brazil-sized rocks crash into the Earth causing mass casulties throughout the planet. "Desimators" as their called crashed into the westren United States, France, Moscow, and the highest area of death...Bejing. Years later, after much research, it is discovered these desimators had a alien virus (no, not something made by little green men, a virus not of this world) that leaked into the planet, causing giant Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. There is mass rioting and mass death, and there is nothing much anyone can do. But in steps good ol' NASA who have found a solution. They have gathered up enough space shuttles and filled them with enough seats to accomidate over 250 people. They will travel to Mars and stay in the "First Camp" station created by Astronauts in the early 21st Centaury. Enter Sam. A normal everyday working man who somehow survived the desimators, and is now trying to get a seat on one of the space shuttles that are heading off to Mars to start a new life. He, like everyone else, knows the world is breaking up and soon will not support life. Now this story doesn't end with him getting or not getting a ticket. Oh no that's just the beginning. I'll leave it a big secert until I finally finish the first chapter or 2. Now this may seem like a lot of backstory to suck in, but it's all an important part of the storySo, if you've taken the time to read through the three snippits of info on each story (thank you if you did) I would gladly accept every vote from any1 who can. Give me your comments, thoughts, AND VOTES!
June 21, 200322 yr Ok heres my 2 centsCampaign Free Hostile - I'm not really into there sci-fi like movies and books and stuff so I really dont understand them much. I would say this would be my third choice. The War of the War - This sounds like a pretty good one it's based more on stuff thats seems interesting and could be a good drama or adventure book. I would say this is my first choice.Countdown to Endgame - This story also seem like something that could actually happen in the future allthough it's not possible for pieces of the moon to be as big as Brazil to hit the earth and not cause the entire thing to burn and and kill every living organism. But it seems like a good story line. I would say this is my second choice.RecapThe War of the Few - First choiceCountdown to Endgame - Second choiceCampaign Free Hostile - Third choiceAllthough all of these are really good ideas and story lines they are still better than anything I could ever come up with so any of them seem like a good choice
June 21, 200322 yr Author allthough it's not possible for pieces of the moon to be as big as Brazil to hit the earth and not cause the entire thing to burn and and kill every living organism ya your rightthe truth is, I didn't really explain the desimators that much to myself (when I was planning out the story) so I didn't really make a size for them. When writing this I just scrolled through my head looking at country sizes (so smart  ) anyway, Brazil came to mind because my friend's did a project on it.So they're probaly not that big, in the finished story I'll probaly make them alot smaller...Hawaii size maybe...but you probaly get it by now
June 21, 200322 yr Ya that would make alot more sense If a piece of the moon hit the size of brazil I would be more amazed then scared Its like man i wonders how many people are gonna die at the same time when this hits? I would stop to think about it then I would be dead
June 21, 200322 yr Author ya I kinda noticed how radical it was after I posted it, I was hoping no one would notice
June 21, 200322 yr ill go with the last one. It sounds pretty intersting, but i have another comment...u should change the main characters name. In my eyes Sam is a bit predictable. Not that i know how to write its just it sounds like every other name in a story like that. ill tell u more but i have to go
June 21, 200322 yr -Wasted_Mike]i got my computer to read out all 3 stories. i voted for 1# Read Out?I voted #3, sounds cool, who cares if its not likely to happen!!
June 21, 200322 yr im a big fantasy fan so #2 gets my vote but a close second would be #3 it sounds pretty cool and i want to know what the plot twist will be
June 22, 200322 yr i like that sci-fi stuff so i go with number 1. sounds very interesting. #3 sounded pretty good also.
June 23, 200322 yr My vote : # 1.Recap too :Campaign Free Hostile - First choice.Countdown to Endgame - Second choice. The War of the Few - Third choice.Egidio.PS1. If a meteor or shooting star with the same size as Brazil : the earth will be destroyed, there is the end of the world ! Remind the desappear of the dinozorus, big meteor have moved the earth a little bit near the sun ! See the angle of the Earth.PS2. I think more, there is this a meteor strike the moon and a part of this moon touch the earth ( and the rest go to the sun ) : the rock dont take high velocity like a meteor cos the distance is more short but more realistic ! And the sea or oceans stop them tide cos no moon !My grey matter work more than the light velocity ! ( A think for Kywalker ). [ Dont confuse : speed & velocity ! ].
June 27, 200322 yr good ideas however i will provide some criticism. Your third story endgame is slightly plagaristic. Watch the movie the Time Machine. Halfway in the movie the earth is trying to colonize the moon and they drill to deep causing the moon to break apart and lose orbit with pieces falling into the earth. (sound farmiliar?) secondly on a scientific note the earth would not survive without the moon becuase the moon controls(sorry controls is the best word i can think of) the tides and is also responsible for the rotation of the poles. For your second story sounds interesting however its been done countless times. Devlin's Luck, The Demon Awakens, alot of stories use the burning village trick to make the character continue. No one want to read a story where the main character has anything to keep him at home it creats complications for the readers and is difficult. Publishers want something fresh and new, keep the ideas coming, my book suggestions are as follows: (read these ) George RR Martin ( perhaps the best author ive ever read concerning twists and character development) Rober Jordan (books 1-7 of the WOT seiries are seen as close to perfect fantasy as Tolkien) Terry Goodkind (again character development is key to this great author) . If writing is your passion which it sounds like it is make sure that you always remeber that character development is key. People would rather read a boring book with great characters than a great idea that has flat and dull characters. Keep chugging you will get to where u want to be eventually.
June 28, 200322 yr I readed Stephen King ( translated books) and he is between SF and Horror themes, try another way ! Egidio. I dont beleive if the Moon explode or go out of the earth that the moon " who controls (sorry controls is the best word i can think of) [the tides = yes ]and is also responsible for the rotation of the poles." from your words "Shadowstalker"? The rotation of the earth cannot to be stopped by the moon if she gone, but we remark that the tides brake the rotation of our earth ! This rotation ( 1750 Km / heure) is make by planets movement in the space and the Sun attraction ! We have a scientist : Kywalker ! Ask him to light our brains...
