Little PC question

Featured Replies

I have a problem....

You have a Pentium 4 processor with speeds up to 2gig till 3.2gig (FSB speed from 533 mhz till 800mhz) i would like to let this PC equiped with intern memory. What kind of chipset would i need for this if i need to have a total of 256Mbyte. I want the fastest memory, price is not important atm.

But what would be the price if i would use RDRAM or DDR SDRAM?

Anybody that can help me with this?

counting on the memory type you buy is what controls your front side bus from the looks of it i would go with (pc3200 ddr which is the afore mentioned 800mhz fsb) i've seen 1gig pc3200 for as low as 79.00 but as high as 119.00 so it counts on when as well as where you look the 79 was a sale price at newegg but think the sale is over. but id look for a mb that supports the pc3200 memory over the (pc2700 memory which is the 533mhz fsb) as far as model types i would talk to someone with more expertise like macgyver :o

Well actualy its a question my teacher came up with...

He loves stupid questions and i have no idea where to start with it...

To be certain. If his system was running that is. He probably needs memory and wants 256mb or system Ram. Since it is a P4 we know they run in dual channel for the most part. Either Rdram or DDR. So to get 256mb of ram 2 stsicks would need to be used. What type of P4 and chipset is a different story. That is where CPIUD comes in to play. It can tell you what the FSB is and what memory is in the computer already.

If he has Rdram as a friend of mine does. it's gonna cost ya like $115 for 256mb(128x2) and that is on www.ebay.com. That is for 1066mhz rdram. 800mhz can be found on www.newegg.com.

If he has DDR and DDR2 then he is better off and memory is less expensive but still needs to be matched if there is already memory in the computer.

so i asked him some more info, he removes all memory and wants new stuff. And as long as the chipset works he is happy...

Ah He wants new memory.

Have him run the cpuid I posted above and either you or him have it posted here. We need to know this stuff b/c he may have and old socket 423 P4 with Sdram or a newer P4 with either: Rdram, DDR, or DDR2.

Well its was a hypothetical (sp?) question. As i dont think he was talking about an existing PC. So i think it is more like, what if i had a (copy original question here)

But he should have given more data to start with anyway.

You're teacher is a crack head. :D

All the time I spent on this and it was just a "Joke".

Please make sure you post RELAVENT questions here so as not to waste peoples time.
