Excellent BF2 Interview 01/20/2006

Featured Replies

Here is a new "Total BF2" interview with Armando Marini from DICE on 20 January 2005. It is one of the better interviews I have seen to date. Here is a segment I liked from the interview:

I think I've proven bullet drop pretty conclusively here. However, there are those who are skeptical. So I ask, is there infact bullet drop?

The experiment does not take into account the recoil of the sniper rifles. After firing, they do not return to the previous point. They return to a point above the pervious target. What is being measured is the distance from the previous target to the return position.

That said there is gravity on all objects in the game, so the bullets do indeed drop. It just isn’t as pronounced as indicated by the images.

I understand the last patch addressed the issue with auto-switch happening to Commanders and Squad Leaders. However, I have noticed that when there is a full squad, someone may still be auto-switched. Would it be possible to only switch the "lone wolf" players on a team, and if required, take squad members as a last resort?

The bulk of our effort concerning the auto balance is aimed at the red/blue nametag bug. Once that is cleared away, we can look into refining the system.

And my favorite... :)

The final candidate that was released (BF2 Retail) was in many peoples opinion a perfect game, of course without the bugs. There are certain aspects of the new patch that will help playability, but some will destory the unique gameplay. Due to public demand, if the C4 throwing/Ammo Pack and Health Pack throwing will be dropped with the new "no jumping and shooting" fix, will there be another method for this, as it is greatly used in both public and competative play.

Actually gaining extra distance by jumping will be removed to the best of our ability. Throwing C4 is definitely an exploit in that many player use it with the same degree of effectiveness (if not greater) than using the assault rifle. That just wasn’t the intention.

As far as the ammo and health pack, they will be adjusted so that they are tossed a little further to help compensate for the inability to jump and throw them.

Before Christmas they said... ;)

Well at least that gives them plenty of time to get it right? :)

Wow, I,ve never had a problem with the healing or ammo supply. They don't go far enough now. :D
You still can't jump and shoot. :D I wish you could, just with a big accuract decrease.
pretty good info, at least they aknowledged the fact that they need to work on the autobalance/red team bug.

I agree Sharp65, its the first time I've seen them acknowledge the fact that there is in fatc a red/blue bug.
I notice the bug is worse in 64 player severs but that may just be b/c there are more players so you happen to see it more often.
