January 24, 200619 yr I NEEEEED a vacation and I am thinking about the wife and I going on a trip to Tokyo, Japan or somewhere in Japan. I was looking for some suggestions and prices. I looked up a trip through expedia.com and for a really nice place it was going to be about $1500 each for round trip and the hotel for 10 days. We may only want to stay about 7 days...maybe. I was wondering what kind of money I should be ready to take for eating out and other stuff. I love sushi and so does my wife so eating would be a big part of it. ( stuff the fat boy comments strobes ) So if you have been to Japan and know of a better place than Tokyo please let me know where to go. I want the best of both worlds mountains and some city. The main theme is sushi! BTW. I would most likely be flying out of Atlanta, GA, Huntsville, AL, or Birmingham, AL
January 24, 200619 yr Very, very expensive, so bring lots of cash. I read an article about China, and they mentioned it has much more to see, and there are some great deals. You could see the great wall of China and some other landmarks that would bea once in a lifetime, and the trip would cost half as much. Thats my recomendation.
January 24, 200619 yr Ask Fatty about the Phillipines. It would be a lot cheaper. He is going there soon. His wife is from there.
January 24, 200619 yr ya philippines is pretty cheap. and everyone is really cool. oh and the beer is ok. ill have to ask my parents about prices so if u need some help fatty and i could help.
January 24, 200619 yr Ask Fatty about the Phillipines. It would be a lot cheaper. He is going there soon. His wife is from there. A lot cheaper, but not too safe.
January 24, 200619 yr Have you seen the news about the Asian bird virus pandemic scare ? They've slaudered millions of chickens and supposedly contained this fatal bug with no cure. But what about all the other birds, mice, lice and humans that may have had contact with those dirty farm chickens ? I'm serious here. Personally I'd be afraid of what I might "pick up and bring back" virus wise from there to here and my children. I apoligize for the negative waves. But I thought just in case you missed the news I should ask if you were aware. Sorry. Governments don't want to panic the population. Much cash comes from tourists. Creating jobs, ETC. I don;t think we can even trust our own governments to immediately post a possible problem like this. They would try to prevent panic and work on subduing news of deaths while they work on limited antidote base, if that, to wipe it out. So ca nwe trust news from other countries any more ? NOT. Sorry man. Because i care i have to ask you to reconsider where you go. Do not trust travel company news assurance. Get your own from media or local governmet rep who's butt is online to give you proper onfo which he may not even get back to you. Best wishes. I would stay away from Asia
January 24, 200619 yr not safe gator? ok thats if u go way south ahahahah. i mean manila and the places around manila r ok if not crowded. and if u go to the beaches the ones that arent really known are the best.
January 24, 200619 yr not safe gator? ok thats if u go way south ahahahah. i mean manila and the places around manila r ok if not crowded. and if u go to the beaches the ones that arent really known are the best. On a humour attempt I'll remind you of the movie "Jaws". Evidence was presented to area government of dangerous shark. Council pointed out evidence was few cases and they needed beaches open for tourists or city would go bankrupt so they left beaches open and increased security. Beach users were not warned. With warning thanks to media reportors, would you go there ? Sorry but I watch a lot of news channels and science channels and both have had tv programs about this scare, pointing out it's been contained. I think to myself, good, they show the birds being gased in bags. This is what local government of area would want put out to world. Can we simple tourists be sure they have it totally contained and killed off ? Do your own thinking and see what you come up with. I come up with risk so would avoid for atleast a yr or 2. It turned up in Europe too, in smaller numbers. Do your math.
January 24, 200619 yr Hey I have 2 friends I know that both live or lived in japan and could ask them if they know of any good places. But if the chicken thingy seems like a risk that you don't wan't to take then I would recomend Hilton Head Island (in amarica) kinda expencive but really fun. The hotel I stayed at was really nice (horibble ppl working there though). Also have a friend from Poland if you wan't info overthere. Hey Just trying to be helpful. Let us know where you picked ok?
January 24, 200619 yr A lot cheaper, but not too safe. As long as you don't go to Mindinao, it's not too bad Actually, if I was able to choose where to go for a vacation, I would either go to Thailand (everything is pretty inexpensive there, and plenty of sites to see) or take one of the carribean cruises. SC, I have heard a lot of good things and a lot of bad things about Japan. My boss lived in Japan for 7 years, speaks and reads Japanese fluently, and when we talk about it, he recommends I don't go there without someone I trust who speaks Japanese and knows the area. It's not dangerous, but it's not easy to get around without it.
January 24, 200619 yr not safe gator? ok thats if u go way south ahahahah. i mean manila and the places around manila r ok if not crowded. and if u go to the beaches the ones that arent really known are the best. My wife is from Pampanga, the most dangerous thing there is hearing damage from the volume people talk. We're also planning on going to Boracay this trip.. white sand beaches, water that looks like vodka, asian girls in bikinis (but wrapped in towels so they don't get any darker.... it's a strange country )
January 24, 200619 yr Author Hmmm. I wouldnt mind going to China but I think I am going to skip the whole Bird Flu thing.... When that is over I may go. I didnt think about Thailand...I may do some checking into that. Gator is right about China...I wouldnt mind going there any other time to see the sites...before we nuke them anyway. Fatty, I was wondering about getting around there...I am trying to learn the language using rosettastone right now. It is hard to say the least. I love the culture there and the reason we both wanted to go to Japan. Can you ask him if there are any good places there for Americans that would be easier on the tourist or maybe a little cheaper? I need to go somewhere far from Meth Mountain....where I live and work.
January 24, 200619 yr Bird flu my but... read this ... State Department http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/health/health_1181.html World Heath Organization (WHO) http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/country/en/ Read the China numbers. They have over 1 billion people... Just don't eat the chicken, or pet the ****s Phillippines ***Travel Warning*** last year, and is still in affect http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_2190.html Japan: BRING LOTS OF CASH $$$$$$$$$$
January 24, 200619 yr Author I have been doing some checking...I think I am going to call up a travel agency and get some prices of full packages. That way I know everything is taken care of. I was reading on expedia and found some prices for asia trips http://www.expedia.com/daily/vacations/asia/default.asp?rfrr=-22791 I will read those links now gator...thanks. I dont think they would let me take my Glock. Well after reading that link 9 cases in China and 6 deaths...I guess we would stand a better chance of crashing in the plane going there. http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/country/cases_table_2006_01_19/en/index.html EDIT: I just checked the prices from expedia via the link I posted above. It is higher to go to China than to Japan for some reason. More gas in the plane I guess. I wonder in the food prices ect would make up the price. As for the Phillippines I have never wanted to go there. I have to worry about being blown up in labs all the time...dont want to worry about being blown up in the Phillippines
January 24, 200619 yr Author Australia...yeah thats it! My wife always wanted to go there....and so have I outside of Japan. I may check that also. Thanks for saying something about it Jpenn
January 24, 200619 yr Actually, my dad and I were planning on travelling there, but family issues prevented the trip. I forgot the name of the travel agency, but he got it out of AARP magazine. It was highly recommended and included reasonably priced air travel as well. Here are a few sites, but I am sure there are more. http://www.chinaspree.com/?gclid=CPDunIbK44ICFSyPJAodpm0FkA http://www.chinadiscoverytours.com/
January 24, 200619 yr If you are going for a whole package trip, then it doesn't matter what country you go to, any packages marketed in the US will be "US friendly" I wouldn't be worried about being blown up in the Philippines, it's still a lower risk than places like Indonesia, southern Thailand, etc... There's strange people and terrorists everywhere. As long as you watch out for yourself and have common sense, there's not much to worry about. You could go to some "perfectly safe" country and run into a disgruntled worker with an AK-47. The odds aren't high, but it could happen. As far as Avian Flu is concerned, there's more chance of getting that in Turkey right now than anywhere else, and most of the people that have it got it from doing things you wouldn't normally do (I heard one guy in Thailand died from it after he "sucked the blood from his fighting bird's beak" gross) Hell, you could go to Canada and get mad cow disease... Just go someplace you would like to see the sights, be careful, and have fun. Don't worry about the other stuff.
January 24, 200619 yr StateCop, I have been to Yokota Air Base (by Tokyo) many years ago. So here is the webite for that base. It has some really good information for newcomers to the local area. W4RFIGHT3R http://www.yokota.af.mil/
January 25, 200619 yr Hey I have 2 friends I know that both live or lived in japan and could ask them if they know of any good places. But if the chicken thingy seems like a risk that you don't wan't to take then I would recomend Hilton Head Island (in amarica) kinda expencive but really fun. LOL, wheres BH, i want to hear his rant about how living in Poland sucks LOL .
January 25, 200619 yr Author Well we are thinking about taking the kids now...so it may be a cruise. We could take the whole family for about the price just for air/hotel to Japan. So I guess I am going to look into this too. So many choices....I have been on one cruise before and it includes food and everything other than alcohol ect and stuff when you get off the ship. Not a bad deal..... There is a cruise leaving from Mobile,AL to Mexico for like 5 days. The price was only like 300-360 per person. We couldnt even go to the beach for that price...much less eating out...ect ect.
January 25, 200619 yr hey statecop, You should try going to Hong Kong. It's really nice there there's a lot of people there but most of the people are friendly especially the people on Hong Kong Island compared to the people in the New Territories. I was born in the New Territories back in 1988 and people treated me like I was king back in my homeland but my parents were destined to setsail for Canada. Here is some info you'll need if you plan to go to hong kong http://www.info.gov.hk/police/hkp-home/english/statistics/compare04.htm
January 26, 200619 yr Ya sorry i went a little overboard "into the drink" that time and exagerrated the facts but not my feelings about staying away from possibly risky areas abroad as mentioned.
