I've spent a total of 11 solid hours trying to get the 1.2 patch to work --- and still no dice. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my game 6 times. I've reinstalled DirectX, my graphics drivers, and my cd-key code into BF2. Shoot I've even wiped the registry clean and cleaned out ALL my EA games folders.

 

I'm still dead in the water... and I hate EA.

 

Drat them for making me look the fool after actually STANDING UP for the 1.2 patch in a previous thread.

 

To make matters worse, when I bought the game they didn't have any of the DVD version left so I bought the CD version. From day 1, my CD Disc 2 has been bad. It has a visible flaw in the CD platter - looks like heat damage. I called EA (after we had the game reinstall 1.1 patch fiasco) and they told me that to get another Disc 2 that I had to send them my disc, a UPC code, and my receipt. I told them that I didn't keep the receipt b/c I wasn't planning on returning the game --- they said tough luck PAL.

 

So - after spending 3 hours last night cleaning my PC off to do one last fresh install, I CAN'T BECAUSE MY DISC 2 is permanently DONE. Now, I have to borrow a friend's disc just so that I can get the game installed again - and likely to realize that the daggum patch STILL is hosed.

 

... and it's official. I hate EA.

 

On a further note, they will get no more of my money for this game or any of it's expansion packs. Greedy biscuits need to get their junk straight b4 I pad their pockets anymore.

I know its a lot of work, but you may have to reinstall Windows. At the least, I would use the system restore feature to take you back to the time it was running properly. If that doesn't work, then I would reinstall Windows.

damn man, that sucks. i know you said you wouldnt be buying anymore stuff from them, but maybe if you bought the DVD version... well im not here to make decisions for you, but heres what ill tell you, youre not missing much. best of luck in getting it to work K2.

There is a rumor going around that its an ATI specific problem, and untill EA releases 1.21, you're likely going to need something else to play in the meantime.

 

You can waste your time installing and piddlying around with drivers and whatnot, but I doubt that will do any good. Check the EA bf2 forums, there is also mention of a fix available for it.

I had issues the other day with my ati vid drivers. I was using Omega's souped up drivers from 3dguru and until the patch i was never having any problems. but I had to get the regular catalyst drivers from ati before my game would play. If your doing the same K then maybe getting the regular drivers may work for you or you could try the opposite and get different drivers from 3dguru? just a couple different options and if all else fails ask mac he's helped me many a time on different problems he is a very good diagnostician hope this helps!

very odd,i'll have to go read that.i'm useing ATI and without problems,cep 1 thing i've noticed alot lately since the new patch is that 9/10 times i join into bf2 i get a bug that makes me a private without any of my unlocks and i have to exit out of the whole game and come back.It's happened b-4 the patch but now it happens all the time.

K2 here the stuff about ATI problems.Maybe it helps you maybe not. just seeing for myself whats up.

With ATI I get black patches showing up here and there. Annoying but not terrible. I get kicked to desktop LOTS since the patch and whenever I fire the DAO12. Hmmmm.

It took me reload after reload. I searched the regsitry for anything EA and Dice. After finding everythjing. Deleting everything. I resinstalled and it worked.

 

Then because I downloaded Special Forces Ala Their Steam thingy. I could not play once the game was installed. I tried repatching and it always says the error that I have to have the previous patch installed to patch it.

 

So I e-mail EA. Twice now and I have yet to get a response. I have searched their forums but to no avail. I am not computer illiterate. You should not have to reinstall an operating system to play a game that ran fine before the last patch.

 

So I either play BF2 and cant play SF or don't play at all. GG to EA. I am with you on this K2.

i had the same problem before and what i had to do is download 1.02,1.03,1.12,1.2 then it worked...somthing strange about it but since i did it i can reinstall as i please with just 1.2

You are not alone...mine crashes everytime I start it so I havent even got to play after the patch. It just helped plunge me deeper into WoW. I am not sure if a reformat would help...most likely would but I refuse to do it.

I know how you feel K2. I have spend days to get my BF2 working. But in the end, i gave up and bought a complete new system only to play that game. Since then the game works fine and i havent any problems with the patches.

I kind of gave up a bit ago on the game, decided I wanted to play about a month ago, wen't to install the patch and stuff went ... eh.

 

Just gave up, not worth the trouble for me.

There is a fix for that State. It is your refreshrate I beleive.

i'd try to fix or replace the easiest to hardest things. in other words ...

 

add/remove uninstall video drivers and related software. reboot. reinstall oldest (cd?) vid drivers but not extra utility software. reboot.

 

i found with my older 5200 128 mb nividia, newer drivers caused probs with my less then recent hardware. my youngest son's counter strike would lock up after while. going back to 77.77 nvid drivers fixed that and bf2 showed no fps diff. so you have to try older drivers and test everything before deciding driver updates may help since they may hurt too.

 

if still messed at this point i'd try a registry fixer like "fix-it" "reg-cleaner".

 

also maybe check for bad files with scandisk or fix-it disk fixer, etc.

 

as well as a good defragger. winxp defragger is poor. fix-it 2000 defragger not good for me either.

 

start game. go 1st to video settings and change something to reset it's vid config file. close game and restart it.

 

i guess failing all above. have to consider totally uninstalling bf2. reboot. look for and delete any remaining bf2 folders/files. reboot. rund reg cleaner. reinstall bf2.

 

failing fixing or replacing vid card files or bf2 files, next is all ea games hard drive and registry stuff. repaeating reboots and reg cleaners.

 

failing that, ouch, i'd guess wiping hardrive of everything and reinstalling winxp and everything in proper order of updating.

 

I hope you solve the frustration soon. I sure hate my own and try to help others with theirs if i can when i can. :o

What do you want EA released the game prematurely :o instead of doing my more testing they just released it. And now look at all the problems it's causing. For shame this game has great potential but because EA was just rushing to release it, it's been a flop since day one.

Here is another one to had to the list. I don't know if it is just an ATI video driver problem, but I sometimes can't see the gun fire of enemies. No matter what they are in or using. That includeds EVERY POSSIBLE THING YOU CAN FIRE!!!! To add to that, I also can't hear the gun fire sometimes. Even if the enemie is right beside me. NOPE!!! Can't here that PKM from 5ft away. They must have gotten a silencer for it. Thats it, its gotta be. Knowing EA/DICE they probably put one on it because they think that a machine gun can be silenced. Not to mention when the M1A2 fires it's HUGE round, can't hear that either some of the time. It must of a silencer to!!!! WOW!!!! Just a little bit ago, I was playing and this guy killed me with the MG36 or w/e. I couldn't hear any of his shots untill I was dead. Go freaking figure. EA/DICE need to get their head out of each other's arses and fix this damn game. I don't think there has been one person that has not had a single problem with this game since it has been out. Anyway, i'm done with my little rant. I could name more problems, but that would just be repeating what most everyone here has already mentioned.

Oh, I meant to add this earlier. I have an eVga 6800GT ---- no ATI here. I tried eVga's new drivers... no dice.

 

I'm just waiting for the new patch at this point and hoping for the best.

Oh I know K2..... I wasn't playing on our server though..... I wouldn't play that way on our server.

Dood - the rule means that if you're playing as (=A=) JPennStar on another server, that you are expected to still follow our rules. That means no intentional TK'ing, no swearing, respecting admins, etc, etc.
