Buying a Beginner Guitar

Featured Replies

I'm taking a guitar class (beginners) this semester (grade 10 course) and I want to get a guitar for myself for home so I don't have to carry the school guitars back and forth. I have the money to spend, but I don't know what's too much or too cheap for a beginner.

I found this canadian site: http://www.axemusic.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=34&strKeywords=6+String+Acoustic+Guitars&strPageHistory=cat

and.. so far I really am not sure what's right for me. Also, should I be looking at the 3/4 size guitars since I am pretty small, or are those for like really small kids?

Should I be aiming for $200-300 (CAN), or less for a beginner?

Thanks for the help.

I would stop by a local shop if possible and get some advice one on one. They will not sell you something you dont need and a used guitar is not any worse than a new one. Then you can pick it up and really see if you like it.
well like mac said, try to go to a local store and ask for help. before you actually buy a guitar see how it fits you and check if you like the sound. buying musical instruments online should be avoided, unless you already know what you gonna get.
Most beginners, start with a classical tpye of GT, i personnaly didnt enjoy the wider neck, so i went with the fender f-3 at first, loved it but so did somene else and it grew legs form the band room, well i went with an f-5 after that and still own it, you may want to rent a GT first to get a feel for what you like and then make the big jump. :D
i also am a biggerner guitarist and i started out with fender accoustic and a a BC Rich Warlock electric these both were reffered to me by friends and family who are avid guitarists. the fender starter was about $200 and my warlock is worth $300
Local Shop.

Local Shop.

Local Shop.

What mac said... they will most likely do you a deal on a starter amp and guitar...

take note that its easier to learn on an acoustic, the neck is slightly wider and the strings are easier to press down..

yes there is a shop not too far away that hold ibanez guitars so they will probably have that (or similar) guitar starters.

and the class im taking at school is for acoustics, so i'll learn there and play on the electric :]
