October 17, 200619 yr http://phys.ucc.ie/~sergey/pictures/pict6377.jpg <- therein lies the picture of the Optoelectronics and Non-Linear Dynamics Research Group of Tyndall National Institute in Cork. It's a mixed polish-russian-french-irish happy group. My supervisor (and the chief of departament) is the one dead in the center (white shirt). Ain't we a lovely bunch? Anyway, for an update. Curently i am struggling to lower the noises and boost the signal level of photoreflectance experiment. Once that is over (if possible), we will make a call to University of New Mexico and they will send me samples (wafers) and lasers. The samples are antimonide-based quantum dots (type-II semiconductor heterostructures), which will operate at 1.3 micrometer (the first open-air communication window). My PhD should comprise of their study. It may not sound like a time-consuming job, but it is doubtfull, that it will take me less than 3 years. And don't be fooled by the sunny atmosphere in the pic. Today, as i was walking to the lab, atlantic has greeted me with a wall of water... PS. It's not that i don't frequent TA forums anymore. I visit it 2 times a day (apart from weekends). It's just that i rarely have an oportunity to write anything, becouse of the work.
