October 18, 200619 yr Honestly, I am going to report this to the BBB Online and the ACLU. MAybe we can all sign a petition. Soitnely, I'll sign. Woop woop woop. We should grab them by the nose. But people relax, seriously, I feel it may be a bit overblown as to whether you need worry about it. Especially if you have active firewall/antivirus/anti-spyware.
October 18, 200619 yr Actually, I found another possible posted fix. Rather than post a link as I'm sure EA will delete the thread, I did a cut and paste. Those of you who are more technically savvy than myself can tell me the merits of this possible way to restrict BF2142's access to the computer. ******************************************* I just thought I would post how I'm currently restricting BFs access to the files contained in my Windows personal profile (typically C:\Documents and Settings\username). Obviously this is probably being over cautious, but if you want to restrict BF's access to your system, then read on: - Create an account; I made one called BF2142 - Assign the account to the Administrators group; I tried to assign it to Power Users but PB might not like that as it requires special security privileges only granted to Administrators (or specifically assigned via Local Security Policy.) - Add the new account to the security ACL for the profile that you are logged on as. Therefore, if your username is "Bob" and your BF account is "BF2142", add BF2142 to the list of users for the directory "C: \Documents and Settings\Bob". Select that user and click the "Deny" boxes for all privileges. "BF2142" will not be allowed access to that directory. - Repeat this for every directory (or Registry hive) that you're concerned about. Do not do this for your BF installation directory... - When you go to run BF, use the Run As... command instead of double- clicking. Choose the "BF2142" account and specify the password. The BF2142.exe process will now run under the BF2142 account. Doing this has numerous benefits: Firstly, the "BF2142" account will be using an "empty" profile; i.e. none of your browsing information etc will be available to that account. If the IGA software does indeed scan your harddrive, it will only have access to folders that you have allowed the BF2142 account to access. Lastly, there are programs like "Process Explorer" that can show you resources being used by a process and/or specific user account. Therefore you can more easily see what this software is doing. Unfortunately, if PB does indeed require admin level privileges, the IGA software will also have admin privileges. Still, using Deny ACEs will restrict even admins accounts from accessing specific directories (though it won't stop them from taking ownership...but software doesn't usually do that, that's usually a user-action.) Message was edited by: Fiends (BF) ************************************** UPDATE ---- The thread I got this from was indeed deleted. Along with just about every thread on the EA boards concerning this issue. Thank god I had the presense of mind to Cut and Paste, because the moderators are stamping out this issue as fast as peaple put up posts.
October 18, 200619 yr today we're all mad, but thousands of others wouldn't even notice or wouldn't care, so EA would receive the message it's OK. Next time we will be annoyed but tired because we lost the previous battle. In 2142 they will sell the game that'll be an addition to the advts package.
October 18, 200619 yr BS. Another well thought out post as always Nate Anyways, thats total crap, the game takes long enough to load, and if i want to play with you guys (Americans/Canadians) on the TAC Server, the load time is slightly longer, i dont wanna join a map just as its finishing
