August 12, 200322 yr (Note:Sorry for any spelling eerrors, I'm typing this fast so I can get back to doing other stuff)Hullo everyoneSome of you may have noticed that I was gone for a while...uh...disappeared.Well this is my story:We just installed the new motherboard and 800mhz cpu (it's way better than my old cpu, which was in the late 200s).We booted up the computer and BAM! It doesn't work. So, after about a week of yelling very bad words at the computer and threating to take it to the junkyard (which usually works for me when it crashs) we took it to the computer store. Day later, he said he had found the problem. It seemed that our fan wasn't big enough for the new processor, and that when the computer started up, it took an average 3 seconds to overheat, thus shutting itself down so it didn't shizzle. Blah blah blah and more blah...he installed new fan and we went home. While my dad was working on blah...blah being something I don't know...I went out to FutureShop and got me a new video card. It was a GForceFX 5200 256mb (or whatever that 200 number is). Believe me, anything is better than my old Gforce2 64mb.So now I'm back on with a pretty much full upgrade to play the newest games. Currently I'm re-installing all my games:Half life + modsUT2k3Battlefield 1942 + modsMorrowind Neverwinter NightsThose are the main ones I care about right now. Anyway, just wanted to say I'm back around...
August 12, 200322 yr That is a cool card but I am not sure a 800mhz cpu can keep up with that card. Kinda sure of it. I was reading an article about a year or more ago talking about the gf2 or 3s I cant think which but they said unless you had over 1gig the card would be sitting there twidling its thumbs. Another reason is I bet that motherboard is 4x which your card uses 8x. It will still run but at only 4x thus you are only going to get half the bang out of the card. I would take it back and buy a GF3 ti4200 (128) which is really over kill too but you will save yourself about $150 (or more) that you could use for more RAM and a good soundcard like a creative sound blaster audigy. If you are running XP and have less that 256MB of RAM that would be my first buy. I like 512+ myself.
August 12, 200322 yr your right, my PCs graphics card over heated and had to be replaced but the new graphics card was too fast for my Processor (802Mhz) so i had to upgrade my whole PC for a GeForce 4 graphics card

August 12, 200322 yr Nice I got that card too....it's nice to have a constant 100 fps versus like 70............at 1024x768
August 12, 200322 yr Author lol I knowmixed that with 256RAM and I got a monster systemjust tested DoD again:1024x768....high detail...100fps all around.and I had just tiny barely noticable jerks, but that was from my pingman I'm loving this, can't wait to play firearms
August 13, 200322 yr I didnt mean it would lag. I mean it is just over kill and you would never see the full power with the card that you would see with a faster cpu. You would basically get the same results with a GF3 card because of the cpu and would save a lot of money. Even if you keep the card it will not look bad or lag or anything....just a waste of money I think.
August 13, 200322 yr I'm getting the ATI Radeon 9600 128MB video card, just so that I can play the newest games.
August 13, 200322 yr Author I'm getting the ATI Radeon 9600 128MB video card, just so that I can play the newest games most of the top notch games are being supported by nVIDIA (besides HL2 :S) I would say off instinct to get the GforceFX5600 instead but I havn't seen the reviews for both cards, not sure which is better

BUCKETS!
August 14, 200322 yr You would need to get a new motherboard supporting the 8x AGP also because you are only running at half power with the 4x.
August 14, 200322 yr i got my Gefx 5200 128mb for only 60 bucks, it was even a brand name from a reputable dealer. I would keep the card and upgrade the mobo and cpu. Buy an athlon xp board that supports DDR RAM and regular SDRAM so you can use your old RAM in your new computer, buy the proc and cooling system, and get a new powersupply and maybe a case. Estimated cost: 2-300 dollars TOPS. Heck, you play your cards right you could even spend less than 200.

August 14, 200322 yr Author I got my GeFX 5200 for 89.99, because I had a futureshop card that takes away $75 off the orignal price.and besides, I just upgraded my motherboard and cpu, the 800mhz is the new one I got...
August 14, 200322 yr I run my HL mods on 1152x864 with a 64MB Radeon 9000 pro... getting mostly 100 fps, never anywhere below 60, so it's perfectly fine...you should turn it up from the 1024x768 puney resolution to a good one... 128MG card could handle it no problem... plus, if I never go below 60, you should be perfectly fine (keep in mind the human eye can only see 32 or whatever) because you won't notice it.Just for the fun of it, I'm gonna go try it out on 1280x1024
