About StateCop's Internet problem (updated_almost there!)

Featured Replies

Ok guys I should be back on soon as I hope to have my internet problem fixed this weekend most likely it will be Sunday. I am getting rid of this wireless junk for mine and Marshal's gaming systems in the house. I am keeping my wireless router for the non-gaming systems ie laptop, daughters computer. Anyway I have a buddy from work coming by to help wire my house with ethernet. He used to work for the phone company so he is going to split my DSL and voice line so I will have 1 data connection run over cat5e. Then we are going to do all the router drops in cat5e or cat6 if I can find any cat6 cheap. I may add a file server and print server while we are working on all this.

I HOPE this and other stuff we have planned will up my connection speed about 100-150K not to mention get rid of that those dropped packets with wireless.

If you have DSL and are not getting your full connection speed check this post out on DSLnuts.com I am going to be doing this plus a few other things....

Well it is 1:24AM (CST) here and I am give out BUT we are FINISHED!!!!! I am running test and checking everything before I go to bed. I am way to give out and filthy from crawling under my house. We did a very nice job installing. It looks like an office install. My buddy does this on the side not to mention he used to work with bellsouth before coming to work as a cop so he had all kind of cool stuff. We put wall plated and everything in so it looks good and has a clean connection. I run the wires in PVC attached to the inner wall of the garage then under the floor (where I still have to tac up today). Well the 100KB speed thing the web site suggested wasnt exactly on the money on my puter. Here is the speed break down (I have not tested packet loss or ping yet)............I had the following when I was:-hardwire in my old room ~1220/215-my short time on wireless ~950/210 to 1100/216-NOW 1232/219 so it is a lot better than wireless but not a big jump from the way I had it priorMarshal's TestWireless 700/200NOW 1232/219 a big jump for him!I have a feeling all the pings and stuff will be fine but I will test them when I wake up......

Ok got in the server and noticed a lot of choke when people are firing....I was seeing this before though. I saw the choke as high as 6 and the loss hit 1. OK good job with a ping of 60 thats good ,,mine is between 30 -50 it goes up and down, now about your setup it looks to me all you need is a new motherboard and prossessor you can find package deals with MB and prossessor mabe at CompUSA or some place similer, something with 8X AGP this will allow you to use that G-force card of yours and you should really get you moveing,, i hope this helps
And by the way get a trace progam and see where you are loseing the packets it could be your router or there is a problem down the line somewhere,, a loose connection will sometimes due this as well

I have done traces and I only see a spike and the occassional packet loss out on the backbone. The last trace I run with neotrace I saved and uploaded the html to my web site.

Here is a link to the last trace I run 86 or so packets to our game server:

http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/trace/trace090103.htm

after running more test most of my dropped packets are between hop 11-16

This seems to be the only game I drop packets or get a lot of lag. While running this test to the server it doesnt look to bad so I think it is a setting in the game. When I get around a mortar shooting or gun fire I see a lot of choke and rarely see a little loss.

Update...

Getting packet loss at hop 12 which is
