Voice Problem - Voice Chat Doesn't Work

I did a quick search of the subject but most of the topics I found were back from January. Anyway, I stopped playing for a couple of weeks because I picked up UFO: Afterlight and UFO - Extraterrestrials. Recently, I've gotten back into playing the game but now voice chat doesn't work. I used the advanced search with the voice chat enabled box checked. None of the servers I get on now will let me use my mic. I also never hear anyone else talking. When I press 'v' I don't get the green talking icon. I checked BF2142 setup and 'v' and 'b' are still my push to talk buttons and the mic test in the setup screens work.

Was this disabled for some reason while I was away?

Yeah, it works pretty much everywhere except for inside maps in the game. It even works in the mic test in the setup screens under the audio options in BF2142.

i have the same problem on some servers - they're advertised as voip enabled but actually aren't.

i imagine that you've already been on the armory servers? either titan or city? those definitely work and there's usually plenty of chatter if you're in a squad.

There is a bug in the VoIP function in Battlefield, and it requires the server to use the primary IP to work properly. The Armory server, for example, has 10 IPs assigned to it, but we only use the primary IP, so as to make the VoIP work properly on each instance we run on the server. We use one IP, but different ports.

If a server tries to use a non-primary IP, the VoIP will not function properly, and will only partially work. So, some may be able to hear, but others won't be able to transmit (very strange). The servers you mentioned have VoIP enabled, but they must have assigned their servers to a non-primary IP address.

The Armory servers always have a functional VoIP. :)

It seemed that to begin with I heard voices all the time. Is the requirement for the server to use the primary IP new? I agree that voice chatting has dropped to nothing on all servers.

I think I finally figured out what happened. Just before I stopped playing, I went to my audio settings and started playing with them. When I was messing around in there, VOIP got disabled. I don't know if I clicked it or if changing the other settings disabled VOIP. In any case, I enabled it and voice chatter is back on now.

WildRegret, disabling that option in the audio menu disabled incoming and outgoing chat, so maybe thats what happened to you as well.

Now I have a new problem... no server I connect to is under 150 ping, I never see the Armory servers, and all of the servers I connected to this morning were foreign. I couldn't understand anything.

Funny story about a foreign server. First time I saw a goliath I started shooting it with my pilum.

My squad leader started shouting, "SHOOT DA BLUE TEAM! SHOOT DA BLUE TEAM!"

Me: "We're the blue team"

SL: "NO! SHOOT DA BLUE TEAM"

ME: "THATS US!"

SL: "NO I SAY SHOOT DA BLUE TEAM"

Me: "WE'RE THE F'ING BLUE TEAM!!!"

SL: "NO NO NO DA BLUE TEAM ON DA SIDE OF THE GOLIATH"

I think he was trying to say "blue thing"

Years ago I had an operator that was polish. He was a good operator most of the time but called me one Saturday afternoon with a fifteen error. I told him that the System 34 did not have fifteen errors. After twenty minutes of getting nowhere, he counted for me, ten, eleven, twelve, fifteen...... I told him we called that thirteen in this country......

I will check my settings.
