July 14, 200718 yr http://theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=40967 40 gig for Silver Surfer By Nick Farrell: Friday 13 July 2007, 07:31 http://view.atdmt.com/UKM/view/thnqrupc0030000004ukm/direct/01/1398062 A 75 year old woman from Karlstad in Sweden has been supplied with the world's fastest home internet connection. Sigbritt L?thberg's has a 40 gigabits per second connection which is the first time ever that a home user had such bandwidth to play with. Sigbritt, who had never had a computer until now, happens to be the mum of local internet legend Peter L?thberg who, along with Karlstad Stadsn?t, the local council's network arm, arranged the connection. Karlstad Stadsn?t network boss Hafsteinn Jonsson said that this was more than just a demonstration. He was trying to get internet operators to invest in faster connections. And Peter L?thberg wanted to show how you can build a low price, high capacity line over long distances. According to the Local, the silver surfer will be able to flick through 1,500 high definition HDTV channels simultaneously or download a full high definition DVD in just two seconds. The ultra-fast connection is possible thanks to a modulation technique which allows data to be transferred directly between two routers up to 2,000 kilometres apart, with no intermediary transponders. Apparently the most difficult part of the project was installing Windows on L?thberg's PC. It is not clear what L?thberg thought about the connection, or if she will even use it. More here. ?
July 14, 200718 yr download a full high definition DVD in just two seconds. Holy sh................ It is not clear what L?thberg thought about the connection, or if she will even use it. Then give it to someone who will use it. :|
July 14, 200718 yr america is so far behind in broadband speeds id kill for us to just have average speeds
July 14, 200718 yr wow thats fast!!! Ive seen in an article that IBM has a chip that they have been testing thats supposed to increase dl speed by so much its suposed to be able to dl a high def Movie in one second. The chip is smaller than a quarter its pretty crazy.
July 14, 200718 yr after reading the article it sounds like the person just has fibre not really sure why they gave it to her other than to go this is what is possible the only problem with all fibre is all the routers and switches ect are expensive because everything still needs to be processed. the reason america never got good fibre is because of this http://www.tispa.org/node/14 we all were supose to and we paid for it but it never happened and no one ever did anything about it sucks for us
July 14, 200718 yr 40 gb is to much for to download unless ur torrenting the only way you could us that fast of Internet. (thinking of in the future we look back at this post and see that 40 gb Internet is crap...)

July 14, 200718 yr Wow... I want to be able to DL High Def DVDs in 2 seconds... that would be so awesome. Sitting around bored and someone says, hey lets watch a movie. OK, what do you want to watch... OK 1 second... BLAM! Downloaded. That would be wicked.
July 14, 200718 yr i could just seed the entire TL site... completely, all the time.. and still be able to host a couple of servers lol
July 14, 200718 yr A huh huh uh ! that is what i neeeed, will that make my ping from 240 to something like -0.00000 ? actually ping has nothing to do with bandwidth at all ping is all about how far away the thing is and how much trafic is on the network your going through
July 15, 200718 yr america is so far behind in broadband speeds id kill for us to just have average speeds Lol. It's busi...ness. Improve as slowly as possible to make as much profit as possible by charging more for each improvement. I don't liek it much, but over many years, that is what it appears like. Profit is important, but I think they could still do well coming out faster with improvements, unless it raises costs too much.
