-UnwantedHero]12 year old girl...jeez that is harsh.

They're just ripping thousands of dollars from people

it makes me sick

they're getting the money back from the kids who have ripped thousands of dollars from artists.

sure, she's only 12, but she still broke the law.

of coarse it hurts them but if there main enemy is 12 year old girls i think tehy have some problemsthey said only ppl sharing tons of files i doubt she had tons
Wow. 12 Years??? OK, if they don't want us to do this, make it so you can't get a C.D. to be read in the conputer. That's the onl way it's gonna work. Other than that, I'm going to keep downloading. Why? Because they are going too far whining about it in the first place.
I stopped buying as many Cd's because of the price. CD's are about the same price when I first started buying them back in 1984. It is an outrage!!! Come on.!!! We all know they are making a killing on them. People downloading had no effect on the price staying where it is at. It should have dropped long before burners were around but we all kept on buying them at those inflated prices so they were greedy and never dropped them. Besides there are few Cd's released today that are ballanced from beginning to end that I would pay 13 to 15 for. Think about it. 6 cd's = $100. At 2 good songs per cd. That ='s 12 songs for $100. It is know wonder people are downloading. Not because it is free. It is because we have been taken to the cleaners for the last 10 years!!!!!!!I hate spending money on a CD that has one or two good songs.I have not nor ever will download any music from the internet. Burning music is a different story.......
I agree Mac !Egidio.PS. Spain, Italy, France and many other countries like China are the bigguest piracy on all domains the cos is : more expensive for the more less goodies...
I have to agree on Klif. They may be harsh but non the less she did break the law.Soon they will be going after software pirates and movie pirates. And as far as I am concerned the price of a CD does not justify unethical actions.
and another thing.. How did they catch this girl when she was on a peer-to-peer network?Sure they can get her IP address and this and that but it is ILLEGAL for an ISP to give out any informationto anybody whatso ever.
i admit i DL music, but for th most part it is obscure stuff id never find on a CD. I know i should stop Dling newer more popular songs, but for the same reasons as Mac, as well as my own human hypocrisy i prolly wont. I do think that suing the 12 year old is the right thing to do, but a 2000 dollar settlement (yes, it is a lot less than 150000 max), Come on! Shes 12 for gods sake. Giver her a slap on the wrist (200 dollar fine at most) and a warning. The RIAA and MPIAA arent winning a lot of frineds with there mafia/gestapo tactics :D
Razor. I was not implying that because of the expense that people should d/l music. I was mearly stating that I don't blame people for doing so considering how greedy the industry has be for soooo long..I had almost 1000 cd's at one point. I sold a lot and condensed them by getting a lot of greatest hits and compilations. I have well over 600 now.No Rap, Country or Metal.Latest buys were:Evin Essence (spelling)Michele BranchFrampton Comes AlivePeter Gabriel "Up"Favorite CD to date:Stabbing Westward Last release. Awesome Hard Rock!!!
lets see, 1000 x 15$ = 15000$ for about 2000 good songs, adjust for inflation and number of CD's sold and rebought in greatest hit compilations and you are getting REAMED by the recording industry. Ugh, id rather shop at a Chinese KMart

Here in Poland we have a place, when you can just wander in, buy pirate CDs 5 times cheaper than in the shops and police is doing nothing about it. And CDs in Poland are VERY expensive. I compared the prices. Buying the CDs from GB/USA is, with posting and package, much cheaper than buying one in Poland. Not to mention that Polish Post Office workers open the incoming packages and if they like something they take it and nobody cares about it. So either we get robbed, or...... we get robbed. As for the record industry, we dont give a <<CENSORED>>. Nobody cares here about anybodys rights to own anything. Whether is it music or a car. If somebody likes it, he takes it. Chances are good he will live his life out unhurt. Collective, one of the primary rules of Communizm, works better under free market of Capitalizm.

-Macgyver]I stopped buying as many Cd's because of the price.

did you know: one major label is dropping their prices to $12 for a cd (forgive me, i care not to look up which label, at the moment).

it's not illegal, especially if the ISP is based in the US. Because the user is breaking the law, the aggresor has the right to know their identity.

compared to the typical $150,000 per song fine, a flat $2000 is a "slap on the wrist". Also, the RIAA and MPAA are not here to make friends. They're here to make money. Currently, they believe they are losing money to such an extent that they are willing to go to court (and pay court and lawyer fees!) MULTIPLE, MULTIPLE times. When they realize that the future is in Digital media, their attitudes will change a bit.

it's called "Devil's Advocate". It's great fun.
Hey there suing there own customers arnt they?! There digging there own graves! Thats what I say. The more they do stuff like that the more people are going to hate them and not purchase there products! Does any1 remember napster (of course you do) That was the best p2p around there wernt many others. when they shut down napster look at all these other p2p's that were created. and if they shut down those more and more will be created. I really dont see a way for them to stop this but why do they care NO ONE CARED until matalica didnt want there songs to be downloaded. I saw this pole on some site somewhere my bro showed me i forgot the name over 35k people voted on it. The question was Do you approve of what the RIAA is doing. yes, no, undecided. 96% out of those people voted no 3% voted undecided 1% voted yes. That right there shows how little support they are getting. I also know of a petition siging going on at a site my bro has it saved dont know where. il post it later but There are TONS of people siging it.Its titled Petition Against RIAAi think i havnt seen it in awhile ther aiming for 100k people to sign it i think wow this is one of my logest posts :^)

A) No, they're not suing their customers. that's EXACTLY what this whole thing is ABOUT, man! They're suing the people who are SHARING FILES, RATHER THAN BUYING CD's.

:D 78% of statistics are made up on the spot. If you can't back up your percentages, don't post them.

C) Petitions do little in regards to laws.

...why are you even here?

your points are better understood when proper grammar and puncutation is used, along with correct spelling. As for "digging their own graves" well, it's to make a point. They sue the people they can, make their point, drop CD prices and all is welloh, for any potential RIAA punks reading thisI currently have several thousand mp3's on my computer, oh wait, I own the CD's they come from and all the others are open licenseshove it

I havent got into this thread cause I have been in some heated debates on the broadbandreports.com forum area about this very subject. I get mad that the RIAA is calling it "illegal" when I have looked VERY closely at the law and I think it could easily be argued that this is a "CIVIL" thing and not one we should be wasting out time with. I think this is the reason we havent seen any criminal charges on this DMCA which Slick Willie Clinton signed!

Rather than going over every little detail of the law I will leave it at this I THINK IT SUCKS and the RIAA is only getting a small percent of what they really deserve! They are more the real criminals than anyone downloading!

Just my thoughts! If you care to read some of my rants please visit my profile on Broadbandreports.com and look through some of my post.

Here is the main post that I got mad about this moron who just couldnt understand law...the post is locked so I am not sure how long it will stay on the board so read it while you can...its kinda funny at times.

the RIAA is not protecting the musicians they are trying to protect their own interests(i know spelling is prob bad)p.s KY i hope that something happens to you that makes you look back at some of your old posts and makes you laugh at yourself :? not sure if that comes out the way i meant it to. :? but i meant it in a good way
What she did was wrong, but i think they went too far as to sue a 12 year old. anywayz they settled out of couort for only $2000
Universal's dropping the price of their CDs to $10 CDN I heard....hope it's true......Are there any good artists on Universal? :?
