Questions for those with LCD monitors.
I'm seeing most 22" LCD monitors are 700:1 contrast ratio. This Sceptre is 12000:1 but is only 5ms. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112005

I'm looking at these two right now. Both have 2ms response times but only 700:1 contrast ratio. You guys are saying stay above 1000:1 contrast ratio. Questions for those with LCD monitors.
My current monitor is dying. Hours of usage every day for years is probably the cause. So its time to buy a new monitor for me. This is my first LCD monitor and this question is geared towards those who already have them. According to my research, LCD monitors for gaming require a low response time to prevent "ghosting" images during gaming. A good gaming monitor has a low response time. I'm looking at one now suggested for gaming with a 2ms response time. Response times for LCD monitors are between 2ms - 8ms. Some are 4ms and some are 5ms. At this time, there are no "widescreen" 2ms LCD monitors. All of the widescreen LCD's are 4+ ms delay. So I'm torn between getting the non-widscreen 19" 2ms monitor or a 4ms widescreen monitor. So here are my questions. Question 1#: Does BF 2142 support widescreen play, or does it appear square on your widescreen LCD? Question 2#: Do those of you with 4ms response time LCD's notice any ghosting of images during play or any other issue while using an LCD?

What was the last thing you unlocked?
According to the screen shot I saw of the unlocks from a Beta tester, the unlocks are above the weapon unlocks. So I'm assuming it will require the weapon unlock at least to get NS unlocks. Skip the AA gun for last. I myself unlocked all of the items first, and did the weapons last. All it would take is a field upgrade and boom, you've got the weapon. A good squad on Armory City and you'll get the upgrades in no time and your using all the unlocked weapons the whole night.

Command Score?
I have quite a large post on how to command proper for pubs, part of that post says commanders stay in the rear and don't get involved in fighting. To get your commanders gold, you are probably gonna have to participate a little to get that extra kick in points. Be a medic or support and res and give ammo for about half the map. After that, you should be good.

Command Score?
Anytime you kill an enemy either yourself or Orbital Bombardment Kills, people using your crates and my all time favorite. You get a command point for every person you spot who is killed. Can you say, "Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!""Enemy Spotted!"

You forgot the part where you had to go kill mobs in WoW to complete quests. Same thing in EQ series. There are quests in EQ series where you don't have to kill any mobs either, just like in WoW. Killing mobs is part of any MMO, EQ and WoW. That fact alone does not make a game a grindfest.

CAL-O 8v8 Tunis Harbor NexGen vs God of War. Good matches. Perfect example of how squads should stay together as well as SL's acting as spawn points and hanging in the back. Its this lack of staying together as a squad that costs NexGen the 3rd map while GoD stays together and turns the flags quickly. I noticed that there was not alot of Support class usage. Alot of Medics with Defibb and a couple of Recon with C4 and Engineers. 1st Round Start = 22m:40s 2nd Round Start = 44m:15s 3rd Round Start = 1h:09m:25s Very interesting end to 2nd round. NexGen down to 10 tickets with God of War at around 45 tickets with equal flags and no bleed. NexGen's goal is to take down as many tickets from GoD so they get side choice for round 3. A rocket war stand off occurs for about 5 minutes. Both sides staring at each other across the bridge shooting rockets and nading. I saw that GoD would Jihad Jeep (JJ) with their #1 SL driving. I think this is bad because this increases the chance of the SL dying and hence no spawn point for his squad. Also his squad spawned off of him and left the jeep as they spawned on him. He'd show up where he needed to be but nobody to spawn on him so he'd be alone and unable to hold anything. This also spread out their squad along the driving path. The walker pilots were smart to stay off the main road in the beginning of the map to avoid the JJ's. If your gonna JJ and you miss your pass at the walker, make sure you keep going to their back base and destroy a Commanders asset and go for a back cap. That also keeps commanders busy early in the round.

American MMO's aren't grind fests. If you want a grind fest play Lineage II Commercial servers. It took a year for two people one playing during the day and the other at night to get a L2 toon to level 75. They've raised the max level since then and added class changes to the toons since then so its even more. Grindfest is the term used by people who don't think their toons improve in proportion with the amount of time they put into it. In EQ2 they started putting skill upgrades mid level to appease the people who complained about grinding. In the end you can't make these kind of people happy. Its the never ending battle between the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer. The only way to solve that arguement is to make casual servers and hardcore servers.

Badges/Pins/Ribbons/Medals You'd Like to See
Let me know if we need a seperate thread on the best ways to get certain badges etc. I notice that many of our members are slow to climb through the ranks. Getting Badges speeds this up. Do not be afraid to let everyone know what badges you need so we can help you get them. While I'm not for stat padding of course many of these badges can be earned more easily with us working together. Also keep in mind that its good to work on multiple badges and ribbons at the same time. Example: If you need the Explosive Galantry Badges and also need Recon badges, then you should play recon and use C4 at the same time. If you need Engineer Badges as well as Armor/Repair Badges, then be a tank driver etc..

What exactly is a "titan drop"?
We'll get it for you. I need my Titan Attack Gold. First thing to do is drop me on top of the titan and get an ammo crate. I shoot the turrets down with 3 shots from the Pylum. Once the turret is knocked down you should be good to go. Whats really really hard about the Titan drop is the non-hovering ability of the transports. So keeping yourself over the right spot and hovering at the same time is hard. I had to make passes myself. In a transport if you press down you loose altitude. In a fighter if you press down, you go down a sec, but the engines kick you into hover mode which is easy.

Yeah, Sigil gave up about halfway through the creation process and ended up teaming with Sony to handle servers and customer support etc. Same thing happened with Mythic Entertainment and Warhammer Online. They ended up selling themselves to EA as well. It says something about the little guy trying to make it in the computer game industry. Its hard. But what sucks is companies like Sony, EA and Vivendi Universal bring their known problems into the games that were meant to break away and solve those problems.

What exactly is a "titan drop"?
It also applies only to certain elevations. If your too high or too low above the Titan, it won't count as a drop. You know it counts as a drop when someone pods out onto the Titan and you get a "Driver Ability" point.

From what I can see, there are many different servers. Only 2 of them allow PvP. Tharridon & Varking. Tharridon is FFA PvP and Varking is Team PvP. Florendyl server is Role Playing preferred. After that, all the servers are PvE only. They tried to implement PvP in EQ2 through the use of arena combat, but they were unable to get effective/balanced PvP into the game. You'd see healer PvP last for 4 hours and you'd see stun classes own all the other classes hands down over and over. So I myself don't look foward to PvP in a game really designed around PvE. I do the asian MMO's when I want more PvP.

BF2142 Northern Stike Pre-Order $9.99...
One of the things I like about gaming is the amount of entertainment you get for your money. $10 is a drop in the bucket for the amount of time you'll spend playing Northern Strike. I could buy one movie ticket and a popcorn for $10 and thats over in 90 minutes. So if you think its too much, its probably the best investment you'll get for your dollar. Many people don't like the fact that new additions cost money. The truth of the matter is, EA has to pay their electricity bills somehow. Unlike the MMORPG model that has constant funds coming in per month, to keep the flow of money coming in for an FPS game it requires expansions on the base product. Its smart and anybody with any sense would do it themselves. The only way you can get game improvements or changes outside of EA for this game is Mods. And those are even more unreliable and often never completed. Many people often expect somehow that an expansion will improve the game to make it worth while. If you don't like the game in its current state, an expansion isn't gonna make it better for that person. So don't kid yourself thinking it will make the game you currently don't like playing bearable.

General Ranks
Purpose For those who don't know, I was promoted to Lieutenant General (3 stars) on Monday. I logged in last night and we had a good showing of Armory members on. I received alot of questions about the rank and I was a little amazed at how much people didn't know about the General Ranks. This thread will answer your questions for those who don't know. General Ranks The saying goes. Be My Little General. Brigadier, Major, Lieutenant and then Supreme Commander. At Brigadier General you will have all of your unlocks and there will be no more easy promotions. To be promoted beyond that is all about Career Points. Every week starting Monday morning the Career Points earned for the week determine who will be promoted. There are 75 Major Generals, 24 Lieutenant Generals and 1 Supreme Commander slots. It is NOT about knife kills (Phrogg would have been Supreme Commander by now.), commander time, accuracy, K/D. Its about Career Points. Which is part of the shame. The current Supreme Commander has NO commander time has only played one class of toon and has mostly no badges. He just played alot. It is possible to loose your General Ranks quite easily. You could play alot one week, go on a trip and play for only one day and then find yourself back to Brigadier General. So it takes constant play to keep the rank up. More time than many people can put in. I average 6 hours a day. 9 PM to 2 AM. And even more on weekends. The only benefit you gain from being a high ranking player is you win Commander elections. Thats it. Most of the time people don't want to be commander so winning them isn't hard in the first place. I wish there was more, maybe a wider UAV detection radius or some advantage, but there isn't. Earning Career Points The best way to get Career Points is through badges. Silver Badges are worth 500 points. Gold Badges are worth 1000 points. Thats career points. If you think about it, I myself average 75-100 Career points per Conquest Map and 75-150 Career Points per Titan map (cause they last longer). So earning a gold badge is the equivalent of playing 10-12 games. It is a time saver. But once you've earned most of your gold badges (which I have), then playing is all you can do. Teamwork points go towards your career points. My stats don't lie, I play Assault with defib alot. Every time I defib a player I get teamwork points/career points. Add my kills and your looking at alot of career points per map. So the Support and Assault classes will earn you more career points than the Sniper or Engineer classes who usually have lower teamwork scores. I hope that answers all your questions. Good luck.

Yeah, there are always one or two stay at home people. I've beening seeing averages of level 30+ to the top guilds in the leaderboards. Many have 45+ on either the dimplomacy or crafting spheres.

Its not like UO. Its sooo much like EQ2 they might as well have called it EQ3. Even the classes and items are pretty much the same as EQ2, just different names. Its been out a month and people are already halfway through the levels.

We need to put a bell on Phrogg

I've been watching some video casts there for BF 2142 recently. There is definately info to be learned from watching the videos. Today's video is the 12v12 Titan for TWL 1st place. Linkage: http://www.egln.net/
