  1. Yeah, its my personality type I guess. If I want to have fun at gaming I usually play some small single player turn based game or something. But for FPS I take things pretty seriously. I'm a perfectionist in this aspect. So many times I've played a map frustated at "my" performance only to end the map with a Gold Medal. For me the fun part of gaming is the teamwork aspect. I like goin in with people as a group and performing well. Like MMO's and Armory Squads. Or playing with FuryIncarnate listening to all the BS ways he dies as well. I know I'm not alone when I get killed by a single pistol headshot or some other dumb way to die. Good times.
  2. Any feedback on what "part" works for you or any detailed info would be appreciated. That way I can refine it if I have to. I'd like the Armory community to be more honest about the post so I can get true feedback. Thanks.
  3. Here is a guide I've been working on for a while. Mainly to help people who want to improve their BF 2142 play. I need to start working on the Video's now.
  4. There here is what to do if it says "unknown key" sometimes. The Battlefield series has been buggy about double assigning keys. In BF2 you couldn't do it. In BF 2142 you can, but sometimes they conflict even when crossing control types "Common, Vehicle, Aircraft". I suggest, if your changing your controls from the default config, make sure there is a key for every control option, even if you don't use it. Also make sure its not double assigned. In my situation, I was using the "F" key for "Right Steer" on aircraft. By default, "F" is cycling weapons on aircraft. Since I don't cycle weapons, I use the number keys, I would leave cycle weapons blank. I would then go and play and find that "Right Steer" wouldn't work. Checked my control keys and "Right Steer" showed "unknown" and Cycle weapons was back to "F". I put "Right Steer" back to "F" and then assigned "Cycle Weapons" the "O" key which I'll never use. That fixed my problem. Watch for double assigns and leave no control option unfilled.
  5. Does it say "Unknown Key" in your controls when you go to check it?
  6. What seems like science fiction and impossible today, may be true in the year 2142. Check out the last link. http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/projects/MEDIA/xv/oc.html http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/projects/MEDIA/xv/images/oc-wired.mpg
  7. You need .50 cal sniper rifles because these kind of bullets and weapon systems are able to shoot targets more accurately at greater distances. Current "Longest Sniper Shot" record is around 2400 meters (1.49 miles) by the McMillian TAC-50. This was in Afghanistan in 2002. Lighter sniper rifles couldn't make this shot. Of course larger bullets allow for more penetration. I've heard stories of Special Forces snipers shooting enemy plane engines from long distances to disable enemy planes before they take off. A cheap weapon disables a million dollar piece of enemy fire power. It is a shame, but War as spawned many inventions, Atom Bomb being one of them. We could definately have a long debate over how war speeds up the invention process. What I look foward to is the new "Nano Armors". Companies are weaving nano strands 100 times smaller than that of a human hair to form body armors that work better than kevlar. The armor is flimsey until it gets hit, then the nano threads react and tighten up on impact to stop the bullet or explosion. The suit also measures key life functions and stores the info to a mini computer built into the suit. A medic will be able to walk up to you, plug into your mini computer with a USB cable and see: where you got hit, your vital signs and other info. And then he can take appropriate action.
  8. In flight missile repair is a great job. Thanks for the re-up.
  9. Voss. Baur has let me down too many times. Either through lack of clip capacity or terrible recoil. I do move between the Baur and Voss often, but I tend to move back to the Voss out of frustration with the Baur. Rockets for long range as well.
  10. Score screen: Trophy = Total Score, 3 Person Crowd = Teamwork Points, Crosshair = Kills, Skull = Spawn by Death. You get teamwork points for Defib, Healing, Ammo Supply, Capping Flags. You get bonus teamwork points for doing the above with those in your squad. Kills equals how many people you killed. Deaths are determined by how many times you died and had to respawn. If you die, and a medic comes and defibs you, then it doesn't count as a death against your score. Stat padding is setting up a situation in game that would give you an abnormal amount of points not otherwise attainable through regular play. Examples are shooting people on your team so you can heal them for heal points. Driving 3 medics out of bound in an FAV and they all heal each other for points. This is a general term, but as far as server rules it usually applies to Base Raping. This usually occurs when someone or a group of people use overwhelming firepower to kill people when they have little to no chance of fighting back. Examples are using an APC to kill people as they spawn in or camping an enemy base with your team etc.. There are knife/defib and pistol servers because its too difficult to get those badges through normal game play sometimes. So some people setup servers where those weapons should be used only. Doesn't always happen that way.
  11. Didn't know you lived in Canada.
  12. Be advised. Tiger is actually charging you $73.99 with $15 mail in rebate. You have to do the rebate yourself. www.newegg.com is charging $64.99 with a $20 mail in rebate for a total of $44.99. IMO I think your going too steep in price for an AGP card. PCI-E(xpress) is the standard now and AGP is going out the door. $279 will buy you a good GeForce PCI-E card 7800GTX card and its newer and better performing. If your on a budget, I'd look at the 256 MB AGP cards, not the 512 MB cards. It will save you $150 which isn't worth the small performance boost you get by going 512 MB. May I also suggest www.newegg.com which in my experience usually beats www.tigerdirect.ca in price by $5-$10.
  13. The commanders assets are as follows: The asset with the "Pole & Ball" is the UAV. The asset with the "Three Vertical Poles" is the Orbital Bombardment. The last two assets look alike in that they have rotating radar dishes. One has a half sphere dish that sits on a tall box which is taller than you. That is the EMP. The other has a more half moon dish which spins lower to the ground and sits on something that looks like a console. That is the Satellite Scan. As Recon with 5 Det packs, you get to destroy either a UAV or Orbital and then either of the Dish Assets with what you have left.
  14. IP DS3's? Or Private Line?
  15. Seems I'm not the only one who upgraded this month. I do have a suggestion for those who get frustrated with headphone and mic problems. I myself buy my headsets at BestBuy. I also pay for the 2-year plan. I have kids and other things happen. The mic stops working cause the boom gets overworked. A bad chair rollever on the cable can stop one side from working etc.. The list goes on. By getting the 2-year plan, you can instantly solve any headset issues by saving the receipt and walking into a BestBuy and replacing the old headset with a new one for any reason. And its only $15-$20 extra dollars. Do that on a $20 headset and your set. Last year I probably went through 5 headsets. But, one day after they broke, replaced brand new.
  16. Is it a USB headset, or the regular gold plated colored connectors? The first test you should always do with a mic in troubleshooting is using Windows Sound Recorder. It is the simplest sound recording and playback program that doesn't require special settings based on hardware and drivers. It also displays the sounds being recorded in waveform so you know truely if its detecting sound in the mic or if its just a dead line.
  17. Let me give you some background. I've worked in Telecommunications for 8 years now. I've worked for MCI, Worldcomm, MFS and currently work on the WilTel network now known as Level 3 communications. I've worked with every telecom vendor in that time over and over again. I'm now in Tier 2 IP backbone support for Level 3 but I've done install and maintenance of circuits from 9.6k to OC-192. AT&T is the grandfather of telecom. Their prices are high and I've installed many a circuit for the sole purpose of people moving off of AT&T because their prices are too high. They also have the worst customer support of any Telecom known to man. That is classic AT&T. AT&T was recently bought by SBC, but SBC used the AT&T name because of name recognition. SBC is the standard for "Baby Bell" telecom. My wife works for Verizon and I can tell you right now, don't go with Verizon. They are currently not beating market prices and since Verizon bought MCI, their service has gone down hill. They are also "union". This means their workload is purposefully kept low so you don't "hurt" employee feelings. When workload is low per employee, that means any improvements or fixes are slow to come. Netzero started out as a distributed internet provider. They basically used unused bandwidth that people had to give you internet for free. If you pay, then you'll get basic garaunteed service with them. Netzero basically pays other providers for basic internet. AOL is junk telecom and from past experiences have gotten pretty bad IMO. Much of their internet is run through Earthlink and Verizon. Earthlink is great IMO, but Verizon is not. You may have to deal with Verizon directly even though you have AOL. Vonage. Of the list you gave, this is the provider that I suggest you use. Here is why. Vonage was one of the first IP VOIP companies to start in the business and do it right. For IP VOIP to be dependable you can't have a certain amount of latency or the IP VOIP call gets dropped. From the very beginning Vonage has installed and designed their network for stability and low latency. They had to because VOIP requires it. Vonage also uses the WilTel/Level 3 network as its backbone. Yes, I'm biased as I work for WilTel/Level 3 but I can tell you. Level 3 has the most capacity of any service provider and the most redundancy of any network provider I've ever seen. Level 3 has multiple backup boxes per location. So having your internet go down is almost an impossibility. Vonage is also considered a high priority customer within the telecom community. Vonage is known to escalate hard to get issues resolved and because they are a large customer, many providers jump through hoops to keep them happy. So, if I had the choice to make myself, I would go with Vonage.

Thats why I hate playing Titan maps. People do the dumbest things on Titan maps. Played last night for a bit and two squads were at the enemy Titan core and everybody starts nading each other and blowing each other up with C4 non stop for 5 min.
  19. MIC input volume and MIC Boost should be high and on.
  20. 5 minutes IMO is way too long. Thats long enough for a team with 30% AFK's to get get all their flags capped or most of them captured by a team with little to no AFK's. By the time they come back, its too late and the players who aren't AFK now suffer. The first 3 minutes of a map makes all the difference. FAV's rush to the rear to cap rear flags, vehicles push etc.. 5 min IMO is way too long.
  21. Is there a server setting that kicks AFK players? If so, the Armory City Maps server needs adjusted badly. Was playing last night and our side was getting creamed. Which I don't mind if everybody is playing and doing their best. But after 3 minutes I noticed 8 players with 0's all across their score and our team was badly outnumbered. It got to the point that players didn't care if they won or lost so they would go afk for long periods of time. Is there a setting? If so, can we adjust it plz. Thanks. Also, I have been on servers that have "player randomize" on. This swaps players to different teams etc.. This can be useful in breaking the non stop win streaks and blow outs that occur often on the server. Interested in enabling this option as well?
  22. In your controls, there is a Primary and a Secondary Comm Channel for requests. One channel is for requesting stuff from your squad or nearby team. A request on that channel shows medics and support in your mini map but does NOT set an icon for the commander to Accept or Reject. Squad members cannot do that. Squad leaders can use the other Comm Channel to actually make commander requests that show up on the Command Screen to be Accepted or Rejected. Because the commanding player is a commander and a regular player at the same time, he hears both sets of requests. SL requests, and regular player requests. As a commander, you should ignore the common requests. If you started dropping crates for every person who needed help, the crates would be in unstrategic locations and if you needed a crate for a vehicle, you wouldn't have one to drop. Worry only about SL requests. If supplies become available, let the SL's know over VOIP that way if they need it they can get it.
  23. I don't think thats a dumb question at all. I have to say that in my history of gaming in FPS and MMO the same thing always happens to me. I join a casual clan only to jump into a hardcore clan soon after. I've been in some real good competition clans. These clans were filled with some of the best players the game had to offer. One thing I notice about these kind of clans is the players really love the game. Its this love that keeps the players in the game more than any human should be in a game. The kind of people that load up in a server and drive car routes 50 times in a row till they get it right. The kind of people that watch recordings of matches as a clan and critique each other on how to improve their play. Its these kind of people that see the standard and then go above and beyond. These are the people/teams that are the best. I've been in a couple of those. For MMO's its all about knowledge and persistance. Its about not giving up after failing a raid twice. I've been in guilds that raid all night day after day until raiding the mob was easy. People did research and found the secrets and used the tools to help them succeed. Hopefully when the kids are out of the house, I'll have time to run a fine guild in the future.
  24. Its a good Short to Medium range weapon. It has the least amount of recoil of all the subs so full bursting headshots are quite easy and its very effective when strafing and shooting at the same time up close. But like all subs, you'll loose in a long range firefight.
  25. I think you need to be more specific. BF2142 doesn't have Cartillery because there are no vehicle drops like in BF2. You may not be posting in the right forum. As far as planting explosives on the FAV's and driving into vehicles to blow up, its a valid tactic. Any good competition team has at least one guy who can do that well. Jeeps/FAV's are always plenty compared to one or two tanks a map.
