Good post Mac! I agree with what Mac has suggested. He lists good basics that you can always improve on. However, I would make one suggestion: Get either an ASUS or ABIT Nforce2 MB. I have had issues in the past with Gigabyte in particular, so stay away from them. Try to get one of the MBs with built-in ethernet, usb2, and firewire if you can afford it. After you have bought your basics, then go out and improve on it: Mac's numbers add up to $560 Add ~$200 for a 19" monitor + $50 mouse + $50 keyboard total now: $860 .leave ~$60 for shipping so.... .add the extra 256MB RAM + $60 .add DVD rom ~$60 for the Slot loading type I think As for where to buy it: I would suggest: http://www.newegg.com They have good prices, good customer approval ratings (bizrate.com), and do not ream you on shipping costs. Everyone, Give Snake some credit here. He is apologizing and admitting he did wrong (you are a "he", right snake? ) Make sure that you notice he is being humble and sincere. Snake, The only thing you are missing is letting us know you will try not to do it again. What everyone needs to learn (not just you) is that if you are that frustrated, then you need to go cool down and then come back. I don't know the details, but even if it was not your fault and someone else was wrong, I encourage you to demonstrate the positive response. No one likes being shouted at, hearing "you are wrong... you <explitive>... etc." Come bring your case to the forums here and we will do our best to help you. Hi arcane,Thanks for the compliment.To open the models, go download the HL Model Viewer. Then, open the red1.mdl and choose the "Texture" Tab. Choose the helmet texture and click the "Export" button to save it as a bitmap file (bmp). Edit the bitmap, save the file and then click the "Import" button. Choose the modified bmp file and click "Save Model".Thats pretty much it. I tried working on colored helmets, but it took me quite a while to get the red team's helmets changed. They looked OK, but I was still not satisfied, so I didn't bother doing blue's helmets. If you get something done, I'd like to see it :(B-Cell

Uzi, Since you saved your old folders, I would put them back and have it overwrite all the modified files. Next, run FA and see if it still freezes. If so, then one of the primary files got corrupted and you will need to re-install FA (HL should still be fine). Then 1 at a time, put a new model in and see if FA will run. The problem is that you have made, by your own account, too many changes for us to narrow the issue down to a specific issue.B-Cell

Gator,I would suggest that you keep invitations in mind also, and leave room for players to be invited. I know that I am here because I was invited. For older members of the community, I think they may be less likely to signup on their own. Well... for the most part, the idea won't work.It won't mess up your comp, but it may make your gameplay very weird... the reason for this is that the models in other games either don't have the animations (for example, CS does not have "prone") or they user a different name for the actual animation so it won't display when a player does the motion(for example, DOD has prone, but uses a different animation name).There are a few good modeling sites where fans have modified the models so that they will work, but I don't remember them offhand. Google for them "firearms player models" and you will find something.B-Cell

Seriously, though, Malakian... this is a difficult issue... players attitudes need to change... and they can , but we need to be an example for them to model. The issue is that it is easier for players to defer to higher authority than take it upon themselves to help resolve the issue. However, if we allow this to happen, TA will become a place of complex rules and regs just like many of the other servers out there... and I personally don't want that. I am SURE that Gator does not want to have to play "Judge Judy" for every since exploit that is possible... I think that the player in question needs to be a bit introspective and see if their actions are encouraging others to have fun. On the other hand, the player with the accusation needs to consider if they are being too narrowly-focused. In your case, on bocage, I agree that you are probably not wrong, however it would have shown maturity and consideration if (knowing that you did not have to), you stopped doing that and stated that you would during this game for their benefit... the next time you play bocage, you can exploit again, esp. if the other team is better equipped to deal with your threat 8) ... the idea is to tone down your playing to keep it interesting for both sides when needed. I apologize if this offends, B-Cell [Edit]: I want to state that I realize I am not always the perfect player myself... there are times where I should be more considerate... I just did not want to come across as self-righteous here... I'm not.

Gator,I would like to suggest that whatever the decision, we keep the rules as simple as possible, without the long list of caveats and exemptions... Having to write down every detail about water-crawling, klif...I mean cliff-walking, and height exploiting will make it stressful on you to document and too detailed for players to read... really, if the rule is more than 2 sentences long, I believe most ppl will only skim it if they read it at all. Basically, we are having to define "play fair" for players, which is very difficult since different players (at different skill levels/maturity) have different concepts of fair. (e.g. someone at Imknifes skill level would see cliff-walking as fair, because Imknifes could kill that player without hardship. A newbie on the other hand would not understand where the enemy fire was coming from and would get very frustrated after 3 deaths by this player and possibly label this as unfair and cheating...) My suggestion is: Keep the "play fair" rule as it is and if necessary give examples of what "playing fair vs. playing unfair" is... (don't allow them to force you to deal with every scenario) To everyone else, I think that what everyone with issues here (on both sides of this problem) needs to realize is that the OTHER SIDE wants to have fun too! If you are spawn camping, for instance, I know that its fun for you... the satisfaction of not giving your enemy a chance. However, here at TA, the object is not to dominate the enemy. The object is to have fun while making sure that others have fun too. Do not be selfish here, be selfless and define yourself as a player who puts others in front of themselves... with the money and time that Gator puts into this for us, you should realize that he is the supreme example of this ideal. OK, since I don't play league, that's not an issue, however, I would like to pull up the philosophical debate...1) I would argue that anyone with faster framerates than me has an unfair advantage... they can identify me quicker... therefore, when I play league, everyone must change fps_max=30.2) I would argue that ANY model change gives the user an unfair advantage... If you use the models that Sterling pointed out, it is easy to identify them by the helmet. (all players will have a helmet in that model regardless of whether they choose a helmet)So, for me, I do not see a difference between distinguishment by color versus distinguishment by apparel (i.e. the helmet mentioned above.)B-Cell

In what way?... It allows identification of the team without giving them away....I have to see the player for that to mean anything. The coloring does not give the team away any more than the defaults. I mean the only map that the camo really works on is golan (only for the green team then anyway)... In dark tunnels or shadows, these models don't give the player away... explain the cheat. To me, the default models are unfair to the Red team because the white/cream will give them away against any dark background (over 70% of the maps). If you want fair models, make both teams wear green camo and have colored arm bands.... I see some of your point, but don't see the difference in reality... look at my Pyschostats score.... obviously, they don't give me any great advantage. (UnwantedHero with his neon skins is lower in the ranks than me)The models that have bars sticking out of them so that you can see the nme thru walls is obviously cheating, but this is a bit on the line, IMO. As long as FA has Green/White translating to Red/Blue, I am going to give myself some kind of visual signal what the translation is.B-CellPS. WSAENOTSOCK, if done correctly, its fairly easy to apply the model skins to the new models... if anyone wants a specific model updated, let me know.
