That looks like a Steam side problem not client side. I think they're having a few problems at the moment because there's quite a few people having the exact same problem. Just keep trying

Seems to be working now :S FPS is a hell of alot better now...40-80 with med settings and 1280x1024 LCD.

Still happened as of yesterday. I even downloaded it through Steam itself because they don't require the dvd check since the last patch, but I've still got the same problem. I'm wondering if the auth servers are having a problem with the retail version (even if you download it through steam you still have a retail key). I know I'm not the only person having this problem because theres a huge thread in the steam forums with just people having this problem (last I checked it was 6 pages). I just done another fresh install of windowsxp because I was having problems with drivers and my sound card (sound card broke so I'm now using my onboard one, but I broke my headset in the process of being angry :S) so maybe it could have just been a soundcard problem? Guess I'll see when I go and play next time (hopefully tonight).

You mean the server I'm trying to join? If that's the older version it says "the server is running an older version than you".

After the last update I can't seem to join a server. What happens is I go to connect and it goes through the normal checks. It then hangs at "recieving server info" (can't remember exact name) for about 5-10 mins then hangs at "sending client info" and stays there. I've tried different servers, reinstalled Steam, reinstalled CS:S, defragged, scandisked and still nothing worked. Any ideas?

I got the retail version, but it's a hassle to have the cd in all the time (borrowing a dvd-rom). If I uninstall it and open steam, register my cd key, will it download through steam or do I really really have to use the cd?

Humans are designed (built) to eat meat. I don't say this to annoy anyone, but it's true. Just look at our teeth. We have rippers, grinders slicers and whatever else is in there. When was the last time you needed teeth to eat a boiled veg? I could eat them with no teeth.

It's nothing to worry about. It's when someone has a spray that you don't have in your folder (say I had cow naked as a spray, but you didn't have it on your system) it just makes that error. I normally get about 4 or more when I join the server.

I'm a Systems and Server Support Technician (AKA guy who installed computers, windows, programs, networks, servers, and also fixes the problems the users make(or in some cases find )). I do this for the town council where I live in Finland, but I kinda got unofficially traded to the school department to sort it out...that's why I haven't been around alot lately.

Best one I know of is simple. "Can I buy you a drink". If she happens to say no then come back with this "Well, do you want to buy ME a drink?". Might not work, but it will atleast get a smile with the second line.
