After much discussion with the other admins, and after seeing the discussions of the player base, we've decided to begin the Official Regular FAL Season 5. The current FAL 2008 Team Warz will continue for the last 2 maps, ps_deadline and ps_inlands. However, there will be no playoffs. The official start date for the Regular FAL Season 5 will be June 15th for a play map kickoff, and then June 16th - June 22nd is the official 1st week of Pre-Season. The rules for FAL Season 5 are: 1. There is a limit to 10 players per team that can be signed up to play 2. Octinium will be required for all matches. (A download link and tutorial will be provided later on, before the season begins. Regular demos and screenshots are still required!!!) 3. All other current FAL rules. -REMINDER- All players who wish to participate in any FAL Season MUST be familiar with ALL of the FAL Rules. Ignorance of the rules is NOT an excuse. Since Octinium will be required for all matches, all previously banned players will be allowed to play in matches, however they are required to turn in their demos, screenshots, and Octinium avi files at the end of every match. Senators threaten Saudi arms deal over oil prices 27 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AFP) ? A group of Democratic Senators Tuesday threatened to block a multi-million dollar US arms deal with Saudi Arabia, unless the kingdom ups oil production and helps cut soaring gasoline prices. The Senators introduced a resolution of disapproval on the arms sale, as President George W. Bush prepared to head for Saudi Arabia, partly on a mission to contain runaway oil prices. "We are saying to the Saudis that, if you don't help us, why should we be helping you?" said New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer. "We are saying that we need real relief, and we need it quickly. You need our arms, but we need you to cooperate and not strangle American consumers." The resolution, expected to be fast-tracked to the Senate floor, would prohibit the mammoth arms sale unless Saudi Arabia agrees to increase oil production by one million barrels per day. Schumer said such an increase could bring down the price of a gallon of gasoline at the pump by 50 to 75 cents. "We're losing our wealth. Our economy is heading south. That is the highest priority, not the Saudis getting the top-notch weapons," Schumer said. The United States offered last year to sell Saudi Arabia and Gulf states a 20 billion dollar arms package, as part of a wider regional program aimed at deterring Iran and Syria, Lebanon's Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda. The resolution specifically mentions a sale of 900 kits to Saudi Arabia, which turn conventional bombs into laser-guided explosives or Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM). Schumer said a motion of disapproval needed only 51 votes in the 100 seat Senate to pass and could not be filibustered. Bush was heading to the Middle East on Tuesday, for a tour which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the formal establishment of US-Saudi relations. The White House has said he will stress US concerns about soaring oil prices when he meets King Abdullah on May 16, and is expected to press the Saudis to boost their oil production as a way of curbing spiraling fuel prices.

The proposal to halt shipments to the emergency oil reserve, which cleared the Senate in a 97 to 1 vote, was tacked on to a flood insurance reform bill. The House of Representatives was expected later on Tuesday to vote on a similar measure that supporters believed would put more oil supplies in the market and help lower energy prices. The Bush administration opposes suspension of the oil shipments, saying the move would have little effect on cutting oil prices which hit a record near $127 a barrel on Tuesday. The White House says the United States needs a bigger emergency oil reserve beyond the current 703 million barrels to offset any major supply disruptions. "In the short run...we can stop putting oil underground and put some downward pressure on gas prices and oil prices," said Democrat Byron Dorgan, the main sponsor of the proposal. "When the American consumer is being burned at the stake by high gas prices this government ought not be carrying the wood. It's just that simple." Get ready for another surge in gasoline prices. Experts are predicting pump prices, which jumped by almost a dollar a gallon in each of the last two springs in many parts of the United States, will spike again this year as refiners and gas stations switch from winter- to summer-blended fuels. The increases, starting as early as February in Southern California, could push the average national price to a record $3.50 a gallon or more by June. That would be 17 percent higher than today's average of just less than $3 a gallon, which already is about 80 cents a gallon higher than year-ago levels thanks to the surge of crude oil that took futures prices briefly to $100 a barrel. Prices in urban areas on each coast could approach $4 a gallon. And the reason for the spring price shocks? Analysts say it's linked to a shortage of alkylate, a little-known and expensive gasoline additive that some in the industry are calling "liquid gold." It has become a must-have ingredient since refiners stopped using MTBE two years ago when the potentially cancer-causing additive was found to be seeping into ground water. The alkylate shortage has become the most important driver of summer gas prices, said Doug Leggate, an analyst at Citigroup Global Markets. Oil companies deny they are purposely limiting production of alkylate, which like gasoline, jet fuel and asphalt is a byproduct of the oil refining process. But only recently have some started studying how they can boost output, and alkylate prices today are more than 15 percent higher than spot gasoline prices. That means overall costs will jump when it is added in larger quantities to summer-blend fuel. Without additives, gasoline doesn't burn completely, increasing tailpipe air pollution. And untreated gas evaporates more quickly in hot weather, potentially causing vapor lock when it changes from a liquid to a gas and blocks fuel lines. The federal government long ago required refiners to boost the oxygen content of summer-blend gasoline to make it burn more completely, a problem that was solved by adding MTBE and, more recently, ethanol. Howdy folks. I want to let everyone know that despite the lack of news updates, work on Firearms: Source continues unabated. I have coded in several new features since taking over the mod in December, to include a bipod system that allows placement of the bipod on any solid object - you can even place it on other players and vphys objects. The M249 and M60 will take advantage of the system, though at this time it's debatable whether we want to do the same thing for our sniper rifles. Timn is working on animating several new, unannounced weapons that are fully skinned and modeled, including a machinegun brand new to the FA series. As it stands, all 24 of our originally planned weapons are modeled, skinned, animated and supported with proper sounds and code functionality. Also, I'd like to announce that undertone is our new lead mapper. I had to leave that slot when Issa stepped down, and Nigel has been a great replacement. Speaking of maps, I updated the Maps Page last night. You'll notice that we cut Canyon Carnage and updated the screenshots for Durandal. Dyspatch added a new entry to his developer journal with information on an upcoming project called ps_wraith, and Shinobi is hard at work doing our ps_inlands remake. We also have several unnanounced maps in the works behind the scenes, but we're not quite ready to announce those just yet. Overall, our levels are nearing completion and we've even thrown in a few original titles to advance the series beyond just FA1 classics. Be sure to check out PS_Juarez, PS_Forest and TC_Asylum in our maps section to see them for yourself. And finally, I'm hoping to keep the site updated better than I've done in the past. That includes our supporting pages such as the team page and maps page, as well as the news section. Over the past month, we've done a lot of development-related work and even hired a new modeler to the team, and everyone here is excited over the prospect of finally showing it all off. If you're interested in coming to work for us, rest assured, we can always use more talent. The areas of development we currently seek people in are weapons and prop modeling, mapping, and character animation, though we'll consider anyone who thinks they can bring something to the table.
