Posted March 24, 200817 yr I was wondering how many people here are currently enrolled in a college of some sort. I go to Virginia Tech, and I am getting to the end of my first term. For me, most of my expectations have been false, but they have been replaced for the better. Over all I will be fine, but I might get a little behind. I am having fun, but maybe that is the problem. I am perusing a degree in Business Information Technology, but that is after I started in computer engineering. Engineering education is worthless, I have heard that and experienced it. So your really have to have a burning desire to be an engineer to do it. By the way, if you have already gone through the college experience feel free to say how you remember it.
March 24, 200817 yr Just ending my Freshmen year, dual degree in computer science and business with a focus on accounting. I know one person that goes to Virginia Tech that's a freshmen too, she was at my high school by moved right before senior year. Having my last day of classes in mid April is great
March 24, 200817 yr Doing masters degree in information science/information security at Nova Southeastern University. http://www.nova.edu
March 24, 200817 yr I am in mechanical engineering at purdue For engineering any kind you must LOVE calculus Im not talking like it or tolerate it but LOVE You will use it in almost every class for atleast 4 years (5 years in a lot of cases) Other than that an engineering degree is great. You pretty much have a minor in physics, math, and computer programming when you leave. Theres very little limits on what fields or jobs you can get.
March 24, 200817 yr I wouldn't say engineering is worthless as I have based my entire career on being an engineer. I have a bachelors in Electronic Engineering and math minor from CSU. I had a pretty good time in college. I was in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, I wrestled 149lbs for the T-Wolves, only worked weekends, played in a band, loved dating all the women I could. I continued my education at the NACE institute, and now I am a Corrosion Engineer. My only regret is I wished I had taken more chemistry.
March 24, 200817 yr I'm a junior at Illinois State working on a masters in accounting/CPA. My only advice would be to not skip class at all until all your test/homework/project due dates are firm. After that you can decide if you need to go every day or not. I set aside 4-5 hours the day before an exam to study and so far it's working great. As for fun, lot's of it to be had in college just don't go overboard. I've known so many people that have had to retake classes simply because they slept in early 1 day too many, don't make that mistake. Good luck!
March 24, 200817 yr Author The engineering program here is so rough that people do through it and say it is just too much. They do more than what is necessary, which is why so many people transfer from engineering to business. NOT that beyond what is necessary is bad, but your have to love doing it, just like you said KFA.
March 24, 200817 yr I work as an Electrical (Systems) Engineer although my B.S. is in Telecom (finished my degree during the big bust). So I might as well have a B.S. in basketweaving. I love the Engineering field and will soon be going back to school for a E.E. degree. Can't say that I've lacked too much with the past few companies I've worked for but I would sure like to freshen up on some math!! I have learned that the majority of poeple I've interacted with don't even hold a career in the field they majored in.
March 24, 200817 yr Im right now going to a junior college and transferring to CSU Fullerton to get a degree in 3D Animation either for Movie making or Video games.
March 24, 200817 yr Author El matador, that is kind of what I have figured all along. I agree getting a degree in EE would be nice, but I can see how it isn't totally required depending on where you work.

March 25, 200817 yr I have learned that the majority of poeple I've interacted with don't even hold a career in the field they majored in. im sure not doing anything remotely associated with my b.a. in linguistics. i started with physics, but left after multivariable calculus. even despite the self inflicted torture, college ranks up there with one of the best times of my life. study all you want, but don't forget to enjoy your time. you'll have plenty of time afterwards to be an adult.
March 25, 200817 yr Author No, I didn't go to the game. I didn't even apply to the lottery for tickets to it, but I should have. One of my professors said, "if anyone wants an A, all i need is a ticket." So many of my friends don't know what they want to do and they think they need to go get a certain degree to get a certain job. They get all depressed when they find out they don't like what they are studying and then think that they are stuck doing it for life. It is stupid, but college makes you think that and it is the exact opposite.
March 25, 200817 yr Currently enrolled at IADT in the Video Game Design Program. Specializing in 3D modeling, Animation, Programming, and Sound Design
March 25, 200817 yr Im right now going to a junior college and transferring to CSU Fullerton to get a degree in 3D Animation either for Movie making or Video games. I use to live close to that school, these days I pass by it all the time when i hit up the OC. On another note, I been out of school since June 06, my degree was a B.S. in Computer Science. These days I work as a System/Business Analyst but i find that I still work closely with developers and such. Guess some of that coding experience was put to good use
March 25, 200817 yr senior at CSU LA. double majoring in Industrial Technology and Manufacturing Engineering. Well just starting the ME stuff. Im so scared of the calc classes. but I love working on machines
March 25, 200817 yr Im coming to the end of my freshman year at the University of Alabama. Im doing computer science with a minor in math. Im in Cal2 right now and we have pretty much just been doing integrals the whole semester. I hate integrals now... so tired of them. Anyways, Im looking to go into programming. Im also taking Arabic right now, which is my favorite class.
March 25, 200817 yr Author Haha, integrals. A friend of mine and I joke about them all the time. Any time we can figure something out we just say there "must be an integral in it."
March 26, 200817 yr Currently enrolled at IADT in the Video Game Design Program. Specializing in 3D modeling, Animation, Programming, and Sound Design White we need to talk man, i have no clue what i need to take and stuff when i transfer
March 26, 200817 yr Finishing my last year in publicity then going to FIU(FL. inter. uni.) to get marketing, got a long road ahead. I think i like to party and travel too much PREM.
