Posted January 20, 200421 yr this the thread related to "my dad went loco" if you haven't read this please do BEFORE you post hereplease try to keep this serious as my future ability to play FA depends on this
January 20, 200421 yr Author as for my defense of FA and the FA community I submit the [TA] clan rules speccificaly #'s 1,2,5,6 & 7. as i feel that the are the best defense because i feel that they refelct the way that a majority of the FA community.
January 20, 200421 yr well i hope u aint quitting,we all play because its FUN! and it gets ur mind off things?if u wanted to know, im 13, and i live in Ontario, Canada.
January 20, 200421 yr I'm 15 (16 in 1 month), I live in BC, Canada.I just use it as a release. I used to do karate, but then I hurt my back pretty badly, and I had to drop it. Right now I row almost every day, but it doesn't allow you vent frustration the way FA does. I also play for the community. There's some really awesome guys that play here almost every day. Gator, Mac, Statecop, BTD, Joe black, (the list goes on and on and on...).I also saw this article that said video games improve reflexes, if that helps.Gaming is all about playing in context. You shouldn't play for more than 2 hours a day. It just isn't good on your system to sit down and stare at a screen for much longer. Here's my day after school to show you what I mean:4-6 rowingget home @ 6:30, have dinner, do HW, studyStart playing at about 7:15, play till 8:458:45-9:15 go on a run/jog/erg/go push weights9:45 go to bed.If I have any tests, finals or big projects, I usually just push into my computer time, like I have to now since our finals are next week.Hope this helps
January 20, 200421 yr Well I am a State Police officer (Agent) in Alabama and work vice. My step-son and I both play and makes for great bonding not to mention my hand-to-eye stays sharp. As if the bonding was not enough, Marshal learns more about computers and has fun doing it. He wants to be a police officer now but if something changes he could always work on computers for $75 per hour.I agree there are more things in life than playing a game all day, but a few hours a day is ok. You should ask him to try it or another game if not this one. Oh also let him know about how many people from other places in the world you play with and how much you learn about other people and places. We have people that play here from every corner of the world. As for what I add to the community...........Well I come posting pictures from work all the time...with and anti-drug message. I also try to find the latest security threats and post them so your computers do not end up with a virus/trojan crashes your system. I talk to people about their networks...just the other day I helped Sam get a wireless networking going for him and his dad. Did I mention from time to time we talk about political issues? We have people on both ends of the issues.....Me on the far right (republican) and Gator somewhere in the middle to left (claims to be democrat  ) or maybe independent....hhahaha Anyway we all still get along great even though we disagree about things like that. You learn team work and to get along with people even if they dont think like you. Something you MUST have to live in the world today.- Mac comes here teaching people how to work on computers.- Gator....has got to be one of the most patience of any one I know....he tends to rub off on people. Not to mention what he could teach you about web pages and servers.- Joe Black would most likely be able to answer any religious type question you might have. Not to mention giving some good advice in general.- Kingpin is in Germany and speaks both english and german. He also played on some type of semi-pro or pro football team. - Never Surrender - Can work in flash (more computer stuff) he also knows how to work on web pages ( he is from the UK)- Strobes - another cop - Born-to-Die - speaks like 5 or more languages. He lives in Europe. (Belgium I think). I could ramble on for days.................[TA]-StateCop (age 26)[TA]-Marshal (age 13)
January 20, 200421 yr My name is Bob, and I'm a 24 year-old computer network specialist from WI. I graduated from the University of AZ with a 3.84 GPA and a BA in CIS. I teach SAT preperation courses to local highschool students, as well as offer tutoring on any highschool subject, as well as many college courses. I am currently working for the University of WI as a network technitian. I play FA because it is a release from the stress, responsibilites, and burdens that I deal with 7 days a week. To be able to spend 2-4 hours in an online multiplayer game is quite a reward after a long 12 hour day listening to people complain about how they deleted their email on accident. The camraderie amongst FA players, especially those who are regulars to TA server and forums is far superior to that of any social or interactive gathering I've ever experienced. Nobody goes unnoticed when they ask a question. No one is brushed off automatically. And yes, a visual videogame such as FA can often times produce more stimuli to the brain than watching TV (which is not interactive) or reading (which doesn't require cognitive decision-making). Just do your homework, pay attention in class, and you'll make me happy. Oh, don't forget to bring the teachers an apple!MEDIC!
January 20, 200421 yr 32 and Married to a wonderful wife here in Georgia USA. I have a 4 year old son and another son due in March. Wife plays alot of games with me, we used to play Everquest, Anarchy Online, and Dark Age of Camelot. Not everybody can understand what draws the gamer to game. Some peaple are just the type who like to test their reflexes, intellegence, and themselves against other peaple who are like minded. You can beat the snot out of computer controled opponates all day if you want, but nothing beats besting another intellegent human being who's at a simular skill level as you. :)This is my main form of entertainment. When I can afford it, I go watch a movie or rent DVD's, but I almost never watch the trash that's on Prime Time TV these days. I do enjoy a good book, and am currently working my way thru Robert Jordon's "Wheel of Time" series. There are 2 types of PC gaming, console and PC. And if I were to choose one for my own child, I'd say PC gaming, which is what we do in FA. The reason being is you learn much about the inner workings of your computer while gaming. Nothing much eats up system resources more than a game. And nobody learns to tweak out a computer more than a person who plays shooters because alot of us are crazy about getting that extra frame per sec to help us have a chance in competitive play. Shoot, I often joke with my customers that a real hardcore gamer tweaks his PC just as much as a drag racing crew cheif tweaks out his cars. Not just learning the hardware, but also learning how the software works. Many games come with tools to add your own custom maps or addons to the game. I once had the privilige to create extra units in the game Total Annihilation. I learned alot about the inner workings of game software from that experiance. At the same time, I got to express some of my creativity by coming up with both the cocept, then creating the models, then writing the animation scripts in ways tha would make the unit unique in the game.As for Firearms specificly.....First and foremost, if your with a good group of players who communicate and aren't selfish, and learns the most important skill you'll need in the workforce.... TEAMWORK. You know the player, the sniper who reports guys who get's by him... the medic who goes out of his way to make sure defenders are healed up... the brave soul who rushes forward in the face of fire to place that vital Artillery Marker... and the guy in the back who has the rather boring task of loading and firing the mortars.... the teammate who's content to be your wingman and throw himself in front between you and your attackers so you can carry the objective to victory. And NOBODY can deny that teamwork is a skill you need for the workplace. As for the TA server.... this is the most popular server in FA for a very good reason..... WE KEEP THE ENVIRONMENT CLEAN. Undesirable, cussing, grief causing players do not stay long if there is an admin around. And even if there isn't, somebody can and inevitably logs the behavior and reports it so steps can be taken to ban the player from the server. But personally, I have my doubts that it's the game your dad is having problems with. You may want to sit down with him and have a serious heart to heart talk and get to the root of the problem. This may be just a symptom of something else. Heck, it may be just him worried about your grades or that you don't go outside enough. Valid enough concerns. Heck, even I have to get away from the computer, grab my rifle, and hit the woods for some time out in the sun.Pity hunting season is over and Fishing season hasn't begun. *sigh*I don't have much to offer the clan, except an ear if peaple need it. Well, that and I'm well accuated with the Rent to Own business and have a degree in computer graphics. Anything you want to know about Photoshop? I can probably answer your questions. One last thought... the greatest thing you can learn online is the different cultures. I've learned more about other countries just talking to it's native peaple than I ever could from some stuffy history book. I've learned to admire the fighting spirit of the Brits, enjoy the company of Canadians, and get a quiet chuckle out of watching a Dane try to speak English! And anytime I run into a true blue Scotsman, I start asking pointed questions trying to learn about my ancestors. Can't beat that anyday
January 20, 200421 yr id like to write a little something on this tomorrow, as for me ive got school tomorrow so im through tonight. expect something tomorrow bangbang!
January 20, 200421 yr well for starters i'm 18 will be 19 in June I live with my girlfriend in Jacksonville Fl, we have our own appartment, and both attend college. I have a full time job and she has a part time jobas many others have stated above the respect and friendship that you see in this game is quite amazing especially for people that have never really met in real life. Its amazing after you become a "regular" on the server you'll see about 5 to 10 Hello's from people playing the game and then if someone doesnt notice you till half way through the game they'll usually say hello or ask whats up. I havent seen this in many games. If anyone has any type of problems the come to the forums and ask for help and advice and its given by the other players of the community.I play to let my frustrations out and to relax whilest still hanging being amongst friends its GREAT i love this game and Hope that it doesnt just vanish into thin air when hl2 comes out just my input
January 20, 200421 yr I'm 18 (19 in the end of May, HAHAHA I'm older than you Mystik. ) and I live in Gainesville, FL while I attend the University of Florida (hoping to get a MS in civil engineering). I play this game because it helps to release stress. Plus I enjoy the teamplay aspect of FA. It's mentally stimulating and it sure beats watching TV (though I do love Adult Swim on Cartoon Network 11pm-2am EST Sunday-Thursday). Although there are jerks who play online games (jerks are everywhere), there are plenty of decent folk who play as well. That's why I joined TA: the clan members were nice and willing to help when you had a problem. And the TA server is one of the cleanest gaming environments one will ever find.
January 20, 200421 yr I'm 18, 19 in February-I better get a walker soon. I go to college in Illinois. My brother and some of my friends play as PUNISHER sometimes. FA is just fun. No other game has the weapon selection and skill choices like FA has.FA is great because most of the people in the community have been around a long time. Even though the mod is not official it still gains the attention of many players especially those who appreciate a well balanced game. For the most part FA is fairly clean of hacks and cheaters although they appear every now and then. Most FA servers are moderated which helps keep down and the spamming and cussing. Like I said before FA is just fun -PUNISHER
January 20, 200421 yr Hi!Im 24 years old and from Sweden. For the time being i study to become a teacher in sports at a University here in Sweden. I play FA because it´s good to clear you´re mind and focus on something else than just study. So i use that spare 1-2 hour on FA rather than sitting infront of the TV, just like Deadeye says it´s really good for you´re reflexes. Other parts is that it´s far more social than the TV and you get to learn teamwork! As long as you spend some time outdoors (sporting, seeing friends etc), do you´re homework AND don´t sit in front of the computer all day/night long, i don´t see FA (Games overall) as something bad! Most people forget that you are interacting, communicating, socialising, exploring, creativity etc.. When i get kids, i rather see them behind an online game than behind the TV! This is my opinion as an future sports teacher./Olof
January 20, 200421 yr Well....here it goes.... I'm 44, three children (two highshool boys and one jr high girl) and married to same understanding and forgiving woman I met 24 years ago! My education is as follows: Associates of Arts Degree, Longview College, Missouri; Bachelor of Arts, University of Missouri in Kansas City; Masters of Divinity, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio; Clinical Pastoral Education Certificates from The Ohio State University Hospitals, Columbus, Ohio and Health Midwest Hospitals, Kansas City, Missouri. I completed Chaplain Corp Basic Training in The United States Navy at NETC and Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. I have served in the military reserves since 1994 and currenlty in the Air Force Chaplain Corp since 1997. I have served Lutheran and Episcopal parishes in Ohio, North Dakota, Texas, Kansas and Missouri. I repeat much the same as above for why I play: fun, pressure release, international peers, great guys who run the server (The Armory) and great players who play on it, etc, etc. Sometimes I worry about the time I and my kids spend on the computer. As a parent there needs to be supervision and guidance. In our culture there is a lot of greed and crap that is not only in cyberspace but in TV, movies, magazines, etc. So one needs to be smart, that's for sure, and parents need to get involved and help guide. On the other hand, it is a great tool for learmning and fun (hence FA). Personally, I believe that human beings are addictive personalities by nature (I got that from a prof in seminary and in my clinical training). So in my opinion, FA is healthy choice when compared to all the other choices in our culture that are out to brainwash kids into greed, sex gods, war gods, money gods, etc. That is not to say FA is perfect. Nothing/no one is! But like I say, I think when compared with other things/choices in our money/power obsessed society, its a pretty good choice! Bangbang, hope this helps... its all about the fun.... - Chaplain Joe black
January 20, 200421 yr 14, 15 in April, Ontario, Canada.FA is great. I play a couple hours a day. (but thats mostly Desert Combat now)I tell you I would rather play Firearms than doing drugs, alcohol, and all the other stuff that seems to compell (spelling?) everyone else I know. (P.S. I have never done that crap)I have friends, do other stuff too, this is just one of many things. bangbang, why don't you get your dad to play a game of FA, and see what he thinks. My two cents. -Greg.
January 20, 200421 yr 14, 15 in June. Ontario, Canada.Me and 'Sock are good friends IRL, he got me hooked on this game. I've got a few other friends of mine playing, and its great fun to get them together and raid a server and just own everyone . FA, for me, is a stress reliever, something to pass the time with, and almost a social activity. So much fun, its so simple too. Shoot shoot, kill, shoot shoot, kill, shoot, reload die. Or something like that.Anyways, it's fun, a time-passer, and a worthwhile one IMHO. In a small town like I live in and with no access to a car (or a drivers license for that matter) it keeps me busy.
January 20, 200421 yr It's inspiring to see all the nice things being said here. We truly have a great international community at TA and its servers, and I mean that sincerely and without prejudice. Most of the folks that hang out in the servers are typically decent folks, who manage to act friendly towards each other. It makes online gaming much more enjoyable that way. If they are not nice, we make them disappear What you all have stated is true, and I really enjoy the time we have playing and fraggin together. Also, welcome to the forums "Teladro", and thanks for all your kind words.Lastly, Mr. bangbang, maybe you should ensure your homework in a timely manner, bring your grades up a bit, and do whatever chores you may be tasked with that always makes dad's happy . You make dad happy, and then I think he will make you happy and let you play. easy solution
January 20, 200421 yr -WSAENOTSOCK] bangbang, why don't you get your dad to play a game of FA, and see what he thinks. I dont think all of our dads have the time to play a video game everyday like some other people.. (Mac) =]
January 21, 200421 yr I am 38 years old. Father of 3. We all play FA. Well my boys and myself do now. I work in a Steel mill in Reading, Pa.Our rules are very simple and effective. The game is fun and easy on most computers so that kids can afford to play because they do not need a killer system to play on it. For the most part FA is free and that is a good thing as well. A copy of Halflife is the only thing needed.Great game. Great community. Great people.I agree with Gator. Get your work done. Keep Dad happy. Do not complain if he says take out the trash please. Just do it and be happy you have a computer to play FA on.Please look all over our forums and website Mr Bang Bang. We have nothing to hide. We pride ourselves on being the best out there.Sincerely[TA]-Macgyver and family.
January 21, 200421 yr Updated on 7 September 2003 - (All information is subject to change) All members must read, comprehend, and comply with all TA Clan Rules [TA]- CLAN RULES 1. Members will not use foul or abusive language (strictly prohibited on server) during gameplay. An accidental "Slip of the tongue" may be tolerated, but should never become common practice or directed towards others. If a bad word is on the "Badword" list, members will not type in letters to bypass the server's word **** filter. 2. Members will always respect and follow instructions given by Admins. If there is complaint about an Admin, member has the right to make a formal complaint to info@fa-thearmory.net. Members will not argue with Admins at anytime or for any reason. Members may, however, ask the Admin why he/she made a particular decision/call, but the final decision/call will always rest with the Admins. 3. Members will not ask to be an Admin on the server. Tags/nicknames must always be displayed during scrimmages and matches. 11. Members will also abide by any future rules that may apply. Any changes to the rules will be posted on the [TA]- web
January 21, 200421 yr Eh...wheres the rule that says respect [DoL] for they are l33t? k, My turn 18, 19 in February 9th, me wants presents from u all I play FA coz its fun....apart from the few whiners/cheaters/lamers and people who use bizons its a good game to play. I started in 2.65 when i was outa work. I had seen my bro play it after he got a free 2.65 install on PC Gamer DVD. I origianly thought it sucked but it got kinda addictive once i realised i didnt only have to use the Deagle...yes i was a "n00bzor". [TA] is the clan i hold the most respect for, closely followed by Grr (hope they get probs sorted out). Good server and good principles, not so interested in how good a player is but how thier attitude is, which is kinda lucky if u think about it coz most of [TA] suck haha ..except Hayabusa who is a Seksy Beotch Oh 1 more thing B(.)(.)Bzorz
January 21, 200421 yr big tough finner Also, remind your dad we're all real people too, and we all have problems in real life, whether they're major, or minor.
